Features : No Opinion
This the new Recto that has three channels. Was originally going to get some of the mod's such as Bottom and Cream added on, but there is no room on the back of the chasis, and since it is a printed circuit board its not possible to be replaced insted of the Effects Loop. But all and all, three channels, 8 Modes which are kinda like gain stacking (if your familiar with VHT) they just add gain stages. And the Lead channel has an extra gain stage.

Sound Quality : 10
Just to give one an idea of what music I play. I enjoy playing satriani and vai type instrumental music, and enjoy a whole spectrum of music from the Dead to some new metal thats around today (Beutiful Creatures) Some of my fav bands include Zeppelin and Ozzy etc... But i would have to say my favorite guitarists would go from Johnson, Vai, Petrucci, Satriani to John Scofield and Pat Metheny.

What i'm using to play through this amp is currently a Lone Star strat, has two texas specials and a Seymour Duncan humbucker on the bridge position, but soon it will be replaced by either a Dimarzio Evolution or FRED, haven't decided. Also have a jackson kelly, and the only effects used is a wah. So just to give you an idea of what kinda setup i'm using.

Before the amp was modified the channels were horribley balanced, the clean channel had very little head room. (in general compared to now the whole amp half the head room it does now) The reason i got it modified was that the distortion was horribley grainy, and overcompressed. There was no sustain, so if you were not playing anything other then extremely heavy metal or something that required low gain, this amp sounded like crap. Basically it sat around for a while. I would have to say the raw channel was buetiful before being sent away, and it still is, but even more so...

After the modification:
What Trace at Voodoo Amps did was he took away of the overcompressed buzz that plagued this amp. And if you have a recto and turn it up loud, you might notice that the bottom end is really loose, and almost sounds like the cab has a blown speaker minus the distortion.. ehhh kinda like it was farting out, not to be cras. Also he made the eq controls a little more sensitive, and the presence is more of a Bite control (as he put it), i kind of find it to be like the tone knob on my guitar, when all the way down its more of a mellow sound and less middy/glassy and when cranked its got a raw but not harsh sound... Ballsy.

The day I got the amp back I was absolutely blown away by the sound that came from the amp. It really was unbelievable, the distortion was absolutely brutal and the bottom end was the tightest sounding thing imaginable. Also it was not overwhelming. The range of tones possible is also very nice, i would have to say this amp does rock and metal tones the best, but it is possible to squeze out a Blues tone or two. The Clean channel is absolutely amazing!!! It sounds almost identical to my Fender Deluxe Reverb. Also it does not start to distort until around 7 or 8. And the channels are relatively balanced. Just a great job i'd have to say, and a complete and total improvment of what the amp used to be. I never really liked marshalls too much (although, i have never playied a really good one, just the stock ones you would try in say guitar center) and what was nice is that he still preserved the mesa sound so i wasn't getting back a marshall, but just improved it so much. Defiently give it a 10.

Reliability : 10

Trace at Voodoo amps is one of the nicest people i have ever known in my life. He was incredibly kind and patient, and answered e-mail after e-mail event before he thought I would send my amp away. He is really out there to help people out. Its defiently true costumer service. I can't tell you how much he goes out of his way to help his costumers out. He stands behind his work 1000%, and does everything possible to make sure your happy with the results.
