Early 90s 'analog' 3 channel pre-amp designed by Bogner. 3 dedicated channels featuring old-fashioned rotary knobs for gain, low, mid, high and master. Very clean parallel FX loop with send and return. Master pre-amp out to adjust level of signal after balancing the 3 channels. Not as 'versatile' as a 128 channel midi machine, but I'd rather have 3 MONSTER tones than 300 'so-so' tones.

Before the VooDoo mod, this pre-amp always had an 'almost perfect' feel to it. Something always sounded a bit compressed about the tone and the midrange always had the very subtle quality of a wah-wah pedal in the open position somewhere in the signal. It still was a great sounding preamp, but I often re-visited the knobs in search of something that just wasn't there. After the VooDoo mod, the thing is simply AWESOME. Truly HUGE, "open" "natural" sounds that you just couldn't find before. Clean channel is just like glass at any volume. Rhythm channel is capable of Zakk Wylde style rhythms and pinch harmonics with no outboard overdrive device at all. Lead channel is just over the top, but with such great tonal quality. So much "usable" gain, the guitar practically plays itself. Really does sound as good as an "early" XTC head or a "Fish" pre-amp. Cannot say enough good things about the VooDoo Modded tones.

Never had a problem and I bought it used. It is in good condition, but it definitely gets a workout with no reliability issues whatsoever.

Never dealt with Hafler. But VooDoo Amps is a musician's dream come true to work with. Phone calls and e-mails are returned same day. They know exactly what you are talking about when you call because they are all top notch musicians themselves.

GIT Honors grad, been playing for 20-plus years. Many years professionally before moving on to a boring "grown up" job. Toured, recorded, taught, have owned practically EVERY major amp and pre-amp. No, I'm not the baddest player out there, or I would still be doing it full time! But I do have enough "Real" experience to know what sounds will transfer in the studio and what will project live. A VooDoo modded Hafler Triple G is by FAR the very best value for your money. Get one if you can find one and send it off to Trace for some VooDOo magic!
