This amp was made in 1975. It is the 4 inputs originally with no master volume. The Voodoo Amp mod includes a master volume and a global control and a feel control. There is no effects loop with this amp but you do not need one because the tone is so good, an effects loop would only degrade the sound.I use this amp for recording and live use and it has more than enough power for any venue and will sound great at low levals also which was not the case before the mod.

Sound Quality : 10
I use three different Fender Strat guitars and a Gibson Les paul Custom with this amp. This amp has enough gain for anyone of these guitars. One strat has EMGs on it, another has fender Fat 50s and true single coils work just fine here. There are the two channel volumes which are very similar to the way this amp was designed - one bright and the other dark. Cross them and this is your sound mix. My favorite setting is setting the channels for moderate gain and use a modded Ibanez Tube screamer set for NO distortion, just a line driver to give you some additional drive if needed. If you like the over the top overdrive all the time, then you need nothing between the guitar and amp.Just crank up the channel volumes and you will find enough overdrive for just about anything you want. I play blues, classic rock from the 60s and 70s and the hard rock from the 80s. If you like that over the top George Lynch type of 80s sound, here it is.You can also get very clean sounds by putting the master all the way up and adjusting the channel volumes. With a modded Tube Screamer you can get an excellent SRV sound at this setting. The added global and feel control really determine the character of this amp.

Reliability : 7
I have not had this amp long enough to determine it's reliability but because it is tubes, I would not gig without a spare set of tubes and fuses or another back up amp. This is not the fault of the manufacturer or the shop that modded the amp. Just the nature of tubes.

I bought this amp uses in Up state NY.I have not had any contact with Marshall/Korg USA to date. The company that moded the amp was Voodoo Amps, WWW.voodooamps.com. They were excellent as far as service goes. They were helpfull in my decision on what amp to buy and even picked the amp up at the store where I purchased it, modded it and send it out to me.I took a chance all the way around here buying an amp without hearing it and trusting a company on the internet I knew nothing about. I have absoultly no regrets.Trace at Voodoo Amps is a super guy and extremly helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
This amp cost me $600 and I spent another $300 for the mod and it is worth every penny.I have owned many Marshall amps including a 800, 900, Valvestate and a DSL. These amps do not hold a candle to this amp in tone especially at lower volumes, however this amp really shines when the master is on a half or higher. I also own a Triple Channel Mesa Dual rectifer head. I will not say one head is better than the other because they are both different. I prefer the Marshall with the mod for what I do.If I had the Marshall first I probably would not have bought the Mesa.I do not know what this particular 1959 head sounded like wihtout the mod but I did try others out in my local area and did not like them, so I believe the mod is what makes this amp sound the way it does. I strongly recommend anyone that has any Marshall Amp that they are not sastisfied with check out WWW.Voodooamps.com
