This particular mod was done on a 1987x 50 watt reissue Marshall made in '97 I think. The mod made the amp more versatile with the added "bottom" dial and a master volume. The OEI Output Transformer made the amp sound warmer and not as harsh as the stocked version. The amp is now better suited for early Cream/Hendrix to Gov't Mule/Live type styles. There are two channels which can be link, although I only use the first channel most of the time. There is no effects loop, which ok since I can drive time oriented fxs (like delays, reverbs) with the use of a Palmer Speaker Simulator and a Mosvalve power amp. The rating is based on the quality of the mods.

I use many different guitars, some my own, some not. PRS custom 24, semi-hollowbody, Fender Strat with vintage hots Fralins, etc. The mods that Trace Davis of Voodooamps installed works great. As mentioned before, they allow me to achieve the tone I was looking for out of this amp. The "bottom" mod allows me to tighten the bass response of the amp. Its more of a "feel" thing rather than actually hearing it. It took awhile for me to get used to, but you do actually feel the difference when playing with different cabs, guitars, etc. The Master Volume is actually pretty cool. When the master is set all the way to 10, its completely out of circuit. This allows me to use the amp if I want to just use a couple of pedals on the floor, or go with a more complex rack system and use the Palmer as the main volume control. The OEI transformer changes the amps sound completely. This transformer gives a more "vintage" tone to the amp and is made stronger than the stocked versions. This amp is now a monster.

This is where it starts to really shine. Trace at Voodooamps is a very cool man. When I asked him what he could do to achieve this particular sound, he was very honest and knowledgable. He recommended these mods and nothing else. He responded very quickly to all of my emails and the turnaround time was good as well. There was actually a problem with the amp not being able to hold its bias too well, but he fixed this problem free of charge! He didn't have to do that, but it shows how nice Trace can be. If I could list a 11 in this category, I would do it! If you have a reissue Marshall, I recommend talking to Trace at voodooamps.com. He is a very big help!

I've been playing for 12 years now and I am always searching for the ultimate goal of sound........the perfect guitar tone! Other amps I have own include: '66 Fender Bandmaster, Peavey 5150 (head and combo version), Marshall 6100LM Anniversary, etc. The modded Marshall is probably my favorite amp. It should last a long time and if I should lose it or if it gets stolen...... well, I may try out one of Trace's Hex amps he's got. Who knows, I may do that anyway. Selah!

I mainly play strats and own about 4 and a Gibson SG Standard...This amp is so amazing other than the fact that it sounds better than any amp I've ever played through because of the many great mods that voodoo amps has done to it.Trace added a "Bottom Knob" "Global Mod" and a 5 way selectable switch that changes the gain and low mid tone of the amp....The other mods allow the "feel" of the amp to change. In other words you can make the head feel real tight and punchy or a bit looser while you attack the strings....Another great mod that trace uses is this cool control that allows a guy to match his head to specific speaker cabs as it changes the frequencies.....These mods are impossible to really explain and you'd have to get ahold of Trace. All I can say is that this Marshall has this toneful gold magic tone....You plug into my amp and realize how most of the pros get their tones! Amazing stuff.....I also highly recommend the change from the stock output transformer, over to the O.E.I/Voodoo transformer. This made an already incredible amp to another level! Again ask Trace to explain more on this...

Started playing at age 11(41 now) Own strats,an acoustic, and a Gibson SG.....I love this amp because it nails the tones you hear on the Classic Rock records,it sustains, and makes you a better player...You can't hide behind this amp if you aren't a good player like you can with some of the high gain mush that available....This is the real deal Marshall rock sound in this amp! I've already stated what I feel is important, but give Trace a call and see what a great guy and listener he is,and feel like you've got a caring friend who gets complete satisfaction by giving you great tone....If the guy can't get you great tone,he would rather not work on your amp! Contact me anytime for questions regarding my great amp!
