Specs:

* Recommended for clean/blues/rock/metal/heavy players ? this is a very versatile modification
* Install new preamp tubes
* Remove the fuzzy/buzzy characteristics in favor or of gain that is more articulate/defined/clear
* Clean tones are improved - More airy/chimey/open sounding as well as warmer (more Vox or Fender like)
* Increased or added headroom on clean patches
* Balance out all the frequencies so the preamp is more even sounding as well as responsive
* Improve the harmonic structure so harmonics leap off from the fretboard with ease
* Restructure the midrange so it feels more like a tube head
* We tighten up the bottom end so it's not loose/tubby/woofy
* EQ section is be more flexible and musical sounding allowing for unlimited tonal possibilities
* Lower background noise/noise floor
* You can get more of a cranked tone at lower volumes as well as improved sustain
* The preamp will be able to cut through the mix a lot better both in a recording studio as well as live
* All features and functions will continue to operate the same.
* We do not drill any holes and it will still look stock on the outside
* We do not modify the FX-Loop or the switching system
* Add-On Controls: We are not able to add on any extra controls as there is no physical room inside the preamp to make that happen
* Keep in mind that your power amp will effect your tone so be sure to use a good quality power amp

I play 70's and '80's Hard rock and metal(AC/DC,Judas Priest,Savatage, Sammy Haggar etc. I play Hamer Chaparral and Hamer Studio with SD humbuckers. The JMP-1 is in the effects loop of a Boss GT-8 with the GT-8 running into a Marshall EL34 50/50 poweramp into Marshall 1960a gt75 cab in stereo. This allows me to utilize all of the effects of the GT-8 their proper chain order and also use the Gt-8 for Mesa Sims etc. I also use the Midi of the GT-8 to change pathces on the JMP-1.
The cleans in my opinion are very usable as long as you keep the gain under 12 or so out of 20. Increase the gain a little and you can get light break up to blues. Of the OD channels I love OD1 for rythms you can dial in just about any Marshall sound. I usually never have to max the gain out. It also can do blues. It seems to also work well with a clean boost. The Od2 can go do modern style distortion and leads with no problems. I am mainly a rythem player and the OD1 is where it is at for me. I was gassing for a Splawn but I like this set up so well that the gas has passed. With this set up I get great tone at all volumes.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have only had this a month so I don't know about dependability. I don't gig so backup is not important to me.

Customer Support : 10
I did have some questions about the unit and Trace answered my emails the same day to my satisfaction so I would assume that if I had a problems he would repair or rectify it in a professional manner.

I have been playing on and off since the late 70's with some long breaks. I have owned a Crate combo (junk) Marshall 1959sl to loud for home use. Currently have a Hiwatt lead 30 combo(good for old rock and roll,blues) And the JMP-1 Marshall power amp GT-8 rig. I love the tones of the modded JMP-1 and the ablilty to sound good at almost any volume. If it were stolen or lost I would try to get another JMP-1 on E-bay and send it to Voodoo for the Mods. So far I am very satisfied with it. I have tried the triaxis complicated plus I prefer the Marshall roar. ADA Mp-1 Got some good tones but it was very noisy and required alot of noise gate. The JMP-1 is quiet and I do not use a noise gate except for some higain OD2 patches. Definetly consider this preamp.
