Features : 10
Added Features: BOTTOM, GIRTH, BRUTAL/SAVAGE SWITCH, OEI "PLEXI" TRANSFORMER, HEX CIRCUIT It would be nice if it had an fx loop but it sounds so damn good, it doesn't need it.

Sound Quality : 10
Freakin' kick-ass distortion! From hard to harder to full on boner-tone. Can get some lighter sounds when you want to. I play everything from Guns 'n' Roses to Korn to Tool to Megadeath to Seether (and some classic rock stuff too.) It's just like the most incredible Marshall amp I've heard.

Reliability : 10
Don't do anything without a backup. But it's never quit on me.

Don't know. Bought this off ebay about a year ago.

Overall Rating : 10
This amp smokes all other Mod Marshalls, period. I wouldn't hesitate to send an amp to Voodoo Amps and let them work their magic on it. i LOVE MY VOODOO MARSHALL!!!

I bought a 1978 Stock Marshall JMP head. I sent it off to be modfied by The Team at Voodoo Amps. They put their Witchdoctor circuit into it along with some other features including, Bass and Mid Boost pull pots, "Global" and "Bottom" knobs, and a "Feel" selector . all the Features actually do what they are supposed to. The Mid and Bass boosts, actually boost the Mids and Bass. The "Global" knob sweeps across the whole spectrum of Mids and trebels allowing you to dial in exactly what you want to hear. The feel knob dials in five different actual feels on the amp.

Sound Quality : 10
I play Gibson Les Pauls with EMG pickups. The music I play is closest to Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society. It is heavy metal muisic with the ocasional clean Electric guitar sound. this head is perfect for my style of music. the witchdoctor mod has all the gain you could ever want, but it is all usable. It is all tight and punchy and cuts through everything. You can crank the gain all the way up and still play complex chords and have them all ring through. The circuit came with a Gain boost toggle switch. Gain getts as brutal as you want it to be while still remaining tight and punchy. The tone has all the power and agression I need with tons of bottom end without being "tubby and flat" sounding. the amp also cleans up very well just by rolling off the volume a bit. I use a one channel amp to play both clean and dirty sounds. The circuit is so well built, that just by rolling off the volume you get a good clean sound.

Reliability : 10
I have only just recieved the amp a few weeks ago. It sems to be impecably constructed and put together. Tubes do blow. It is a reality of life with a tube amp, but the actual inner workings of the amp which were designed by Voodooo Amps seem to be perfectly reliable.

The people at Voodoo Were very hands on with the design and construction of this amp. They were involved in every step of the process from what tones I was looking for, to what type of music. Then they carefully went through each available feature to see if it suited me and would be a usefull addition to my head. they answered all of my questions (and I asked allot of them) via both email and phone calls.

this is literally the best sounding head I have ever played. I have owned many other High gain Marshalls and Mesa's a nd Soldanos. all in search of that organic yet huge distorted sound that Zakk Wylde sems to get on each album he issues. This head delivers it all. It has ton's of gain and It is all functional. You don't loose definition and tone by cranking the gain. You can still hear each and every note you play. Hamonics leap off the board. If I had to say one thing, I would say that allot of modern players will say it doesn't hav eenough "Gain" but if you play it out loud in a room versus any other "Hi-Gain" head, you will realize that it has all the gain it can handle while cuting through the mix and making each pick stroke distinct. Lots of modern heads have mor egain, but it is all useless as it just become an indescernable mess when played at concet volumes.

Well, it turns out that the building we were playing in had some bad wiring, so I will attribute the fuse blowing to that rather than any of trace's work.

This is a 1969 Marshall JMP-50 that I had trace do the Hex Mod with Globabl and Bottom Controls added as well as a master volume and extra preamp tube for added gain. It is one channel. It was a 4-input which is now a 1-imput. Trace warned me about modding an amp with as much history and the stigma of modding "classics," but I didn't care. My instincts proved right, and it sounds much better than before the mod. I get compliments at every show on my tone, something that didn't happen so much before the mod. I can get as many Marshall tones as I want from this amp, although it's basically various variations on a theme. I can't really get much of a super compressed metal zone type sound, but that's not what I wanted in the first place anyways. The Global knob allows for a lot of variation along with different settings of the eq. It is much more versatile than I could really expect from a one-channel amp. I originally bought this amp from plexi palace. Boy what a mistake it was buying from them. They essentially raped me on price, and there turned out to be several things wrong with the amp, which Trace pinpointed for me and fixed. What a great guy Trace is.

Sound Quality : 10
I play everything from jazz to metal to blues to hard rock, etc., etc. This amp covers much of that, though I use it in tandem with a clean amp, because it really excels in distorted tones. Trace also let me know that this amp is actually based on a JTM-45 platform, with some JMP parts thrown. Therefore, it does get a great clean sound, very warm and fat. But the distorted tones are probably the fattest I've heard. Incredible. I use this amp with a PRS Custom 24 with Lindy Fralin PAF pickups and a Warmoth Jazzmaster with a Dimarzio DLX in the bridge and Fralin P-90 at the neck. It really sounds best with the PRS, but gets very nice sounds with the Warmoth as well. The distortion is as ballsy as it gets and records incredibly; no eq or compression is needed. Just straight to tape. I record other bands locally, and everybody always wants to use this head on their tracks, especially for the down and low mean rhythm sound. It just growls.

Reliability : 9
I've never had any real problems with it so far. Had a blown fuse the other day, so I'll give it a 9.

Customer Support : 10
Trace is the best for customer service as I've ever seen. If the scale went to 11, I'd give him that. Super nice guy. He's the altrustic amp tech.

Overall Rating : 10
Man, this guy does incredible work. Truly great. Really hones in on the customer's needs and the sound he/she wants, and delivers. I get goosebumps every time I play this amp now. And my musician friends and recording customers just drool over it. I should probably chain it to the wall so no one runs off with it. I think I'd have to go on a search with a shotgun if that happened. Thanks, Trace!
