This was an Early 80's Park 50watt Master Volume, which for all intent and purpose is a JCM800. This is a single channel amp with volume and preamp gain. Originally the amp had very few features, just basic 3 band EQ and it could really only achieve the 80's metal/rock sound. Turning down the pre-amp gain gave you only a marginal clean sound, very flat sounding etc. After the Mod from Trace at Voodoo Amps, the amp is probably the best amp I have ever heard or played on. Beleive the hype, read the rest of the reviews! Trace is that good. I got the "New Improved Hex Mod" with the brutal and savage voicings, the OI Transformers, the "Cream", "Global", "Bottom" and Direct Record output options and converted the EL-34's to 6550's. These mods change this amp from a one trick pony to a full-on tone machine. I can achieve almost any sound I am looking for with this head now. It does take some tweaking, but well worth the effort once you learn your way around the options. Highly recomend the "Cream" option! I give this a ten because of the huge range that the amp has now.

I use a Gibson Les Paul Classic with EMG 81's in the Bridge and the 89 in the neck, and a Fender fat Tele with Rio Grand pickups. I play mainly blues, classic rock and Metal. I can't think of a style ( with the exception of Jazz ) that you couldn't get with this amp. The 'Brutal' setting takes you from a great jtm45 clean all the way to a Judas Priest Brit Metal and everything inbetween. I can get great SRV, Zep and AC/DC sounds ALL on this voicing. On the 'Savage" voicing the low gain settings take you from Hendrix to ZZTop all the way through Metallica ( Master of Puppets Era ), which is exactly what I asked Trace for in my order. He is a truly gifted individual! I have had most of the major amps out there including marshall's, fenders, Mesa ( Dual Rectifer and Triaxis ). I am selling my Triaxis and using my Voodoo Amp. While it is true none of these options are footswitchable, the tones much better than the Mesa. I found that Mesa can do the Nu Metal sound well but not much else. I have been playing for about fifteen years, and play just as a hobby, but if I ever went pro, I would just buy up a couple JCM800s and have Trace fix em up for me as back-ups etc.
Reliability

No Opinion
I have only had the amp back for about a month, so no comment. But Trace backs up his work.

Trace is a great guy, very knowledgable and good at explaining what needs to be done to achive the sound you are looking for. I live on the West Coast and he is in New York, so I was apprehensive about doing this by mail without seeing or hearing anything. But I have no regrets whatsoever. If my amp were stolen I would immediately get a JCM800 on ebay and send it back to Trace.

Do yourself a favor, go to www.voodooamps.com and check out what Trace can do for you. I have spent thousands going through amps to find the sound I was looking for, now you can just tell Trace what you're looking for and have it made to order!
