Features : 8
This review is of a Randall MTS Recto module that was treated to Voodoo Amps' Standard "Dual Rec" modification. The module has all the features you'd expect from a regular MTS unit (in fact, it's externally indistinguishable from stock, save for a small "Voodoo Amps" sticker on the faceplate), but with far greater sound quality thanks to the Voodoo makeover.

Since I use this module exclusively for hard rock and metal, I can't comment on well it might work for other styles of music. When it comes to the heavy stuff, however, it'll cover everything from '80s hair to modern death/thrash with aplomb.

Sound Quality : 10
I use high-output passive pickups (Duncan SH-6, Gibson 500T/496R) in mahogany-bodied guitars, a combination that seems to work well with this module. I've also modified the amp itself (an RM50) with JJ KT88 power tubes for more bottom end.

In this configuration, the Voodoo Recto module serves up punishing lows and a concussive pick attack--ideal for heavy, palm-muted rhythms. The highs, meanwhile, are pronounced but never shrill, making the module excellent for leads as well.

Unlike the buzzy, fuzzy stock Recto, the Voodoo-ized version boasts usable gain throughout the dial sweep (though I've never needed to turn mine past the 2 o'clock position). Best of all, the clarity is light-years better than any of the stock MTS modules I've used, even the highly touted signature versions.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had the module for a few weeks, so I can't comment on its long-term durability. MTS modules tend to be pretty solid, though, provided you take decent care of them.

Customer Support : 10
In my limited dealings with them, everyone at Voodoo was extremely helpful and courteous. The company's customer service is legendary, and my experience would seem to indicate that the reputation is well founded.

Overall Rating : 10
If you have a Randall MTS amp, you owe it to yourself to try one of Voodoo's professionally modified modules. If you're like me, you'll have trouble ever going back to the stock hardware. I've already sent them my SL+ module for a thorough massaging, and my Ultra won't be far behind.
