Amp was made in 1972. It is a has a Fender twin like setup. 120 watts ( 4x el84 )all tube, point to point wiring and 2x12 inch. The amp is versatile in the sense that it delivers an excelent basic clean sound, has an overdrive channel ( very british retro), a reverb and a parametric equalizer (nice harmonics in cobination with overdrive, great for the "brown sound"), these are all switchable. It also has high and low inputs with bright and normal( not switchable, but with independant volume controlls, so two seperate channels!) I use this amop for gigs and practice room ( my only REAL amp!) I play grunge/classic/stoner ROCK. Listen to my music on www.silverlake.nl

Sound Quality : 10
I use a gibson Les Paul custom, the love of my life! As a second guitar I have a Patrick Eggle Berlin Standard. As the retro overdrive in the amp is not enough for me I expanded it with a Koch Pedaltone a H&K Tubeman and of course a Boss HM2. In this setup I can go anywhere from totally clean to over the top distortion. Its like a fifteen stage missile! The amp is very warm, unlike the Fender Twin it has a lot of low response while still being able to make that twangy sound. At very high volumes ( this baby can blast you into outerspace) this amp is still relatively clean. The parametric equalizer can add a Queens af the stoneage like effect. I wouldn't recommend this amp for people who like Roland jazzchorus type sounds. Its more in the Orange ballpark

Reliability : 8
It's 33 years old. Of course it needs servicing from time to time but its build like the old Fenders so easy to service and repair. I've got a wiring diagram.

Never needed any support.

I love my amp! The only downside is that its fucking heavy.

I think this was made in the very late seventies. 120 Watt. 4 EL34s'. 7 preamp valves!! 4 ax7s', 2 at7s', 1 au7(i think). Inputs high/low bright, high/low normal. bright gain, normal gain. bass, mid, treble, plus 5-way graphic. prescence, reverb, master volume and a feeble sounding distortion. no send/return. socket for footswitch which i dont have(if anyone has one, i am in the market) and an extra speaker out.

Sound Quality : 10
i use 2 Westones with a Duncan JB, and a Gibson 500 in each bridge. this thing sounds GREAT!! its REALLY loud so i never usually get it beyond half way, and thats plenty loud enough. the tone it produces though, is absolutely beautifull. i find it takes up just the right amount of space against other instruments. you've got all the EQ options you could want in an amp. the 5-way graphic really lets you shape your sound. its crystal clear, but never harsh. the low end growls, but never overpowers or gets in the way of the bass guitar. the reverb i love too. people have whined about spring reverbs to me in the past, but this sounds great. i'm not sure why they bothered with the distortion on this. i never use it. there should be a 3 way switch with this amp(EQ, reverb, distortion??), but its still lost in an attic somewhere. i keep looking. its only one channel, which i dont mind. i have some decent stompboxes, so its versatile enough. i do wish it had a send/return, but the 10 is for the tone. all in all, i'm very happy with it.

hmmm. had it 3 months now. it needed some TLC when i got it. new wiring and bias grid. i put new speakers in it too (Eminence - The Governor: nice!!) its very old, but from what i can tell, its in perfect condition. i have never used a backup before, and i'm fairly certain i can depend on this. still, you never know....rating reflects uncertainty.

there'll certainly be no support for this product, as Vox have been owned by so many since this was first on the market. they were very helpfull when i spoke to them though, and directed me to several sources of info by e-mail aswell as over the phone.

Overall Rating : 10
well i wanted a Vox at a reasonable price. for the money, this is the best investment i have ever made. e-bay, i am your slave. it sounds like i should have paid 4 times as much. i use it with: MXR supercomp, Fulltone FD2, Tonebone Hot British. a wonderfull complement to this amp. i hope to keep this forever. theives will have to rip it from under my pillow while i sleep....
