both channels are cool. (ef86 and top boost). pretty basic. im giving this no opinion because if you're buying an ac30 of this quality, chances are you know all the knobs and back panel.

I love the clean stuff on this amp especially in the top boost section. both my fenders and les pauls are very articulate when this amp is running clean. recorded with it a few days ago on this channel and it sounded incredible.
My normal setup for any amp is to break it up just a bit and then just use a boost for any other saturation. This works well with both channels but obviously the ef86 is going to give you the rich hamonic creaminess that you were looking for in the first place. I have the stock tubes in mine and so the ef86 is too microphonic right now for recording cleaner stuff. But for a chunky rhythm and whatever lead live, it's great on both fenders and les pauls. I will put an air brake in the back sometimes and crank the first channel.
This amp is going to give you all the Vox goodies and that's it. I give this an 8 because I own a 65 London 2x12 combo and both channels on that amp are just a tad bit clearer and easier to dial in what I want. You gotta work a little bit with the Vox to find a good spot for all your dynamic changes.

Word to the wise- if an ac30 is being shipped to you, even if the seller claims it is in good working condition and ready to go out of the box, remember that this is an ac30 and what do they do best besides creating the sound and standard for rock n roll? they break down alot!! especially if it's riding in the back of a UPS truck!! If you are buying an ac30 or anything vox off of ebay or another online store be prepared to take this to the shop for some work when it arrives.
I never gig with this thing really because it cuts out every once in a while for about 20 seconds. I'm sure the warranty will take care of this and so I'm not worried. My London will take care of me for the time being. As far as the studio goes, it definitely sounds awesome and I gotta use it for the cleanliness!

The warranty is fair. I think 5 years? Never dealt with anybody yet. I'll keep you posted when I do.

I've been playing for awhile and have heard all the horrible ac30 stories but the deal is: WE ALL NEED THEM AND WANT THEM SO BAD!!(well, except the Custom Classic series) They kick *** for a ton of styles and get things sounding really cool for the most part. When you buy an ac30 you need to go into it knowing that you are probably going to put alot of money into just repairing it.
This amp is especially beautiful with the african mahogony and really just makes peoples jaws drop at first sight. I play a whole lot and record a whole lot and have used alot of amps. This amp is just another ac30. My London is an ac30 and Marshall even. I understand comparing the 2 is a little unfair because Vox isn't ever going to make an 18 watt clone of a Marshall but the thing to realize is that there are so many people cloning ac30s now that indefinitely are going to take over the market and already have in alot of ways. I will probably sell this amp for a Valvetech Hayseed 30, I'll be honest. Unless Vox switches production back to England and starts doing things a little differently they are in trouble.
Love the sound when it works!

Features as per the other Heritage series amps. Pretty basic. I use this amp through a HotPlate and find it can handle just about anything I need.
It's main feature is TONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and the absolutely sexy African Mohogany mmmmmmmmmm

Used with a MIA Strat HSS with s1 switch. As the below review states, the most musical amp ever. The cleans are to die for and the natural tube overdrive is just awesome. Not really a metal amp, but a great crunch sound whilst still retaining the clarity. Very impressive.
This amp is not a marshall superlead stack, it is a Vox AC30, and that's exactly what it sounds like. There is NO master volume so the amp is clean until you hit around 10 O'Clock on the volume knob. This amp has the ability to play clean sounds on 10, just simply roll back your guitar volume and it cleans up considerably. And the clean sound is just awesome. And your overdriven tone is a simple roll of the guitar volume pot away.
My amp's volume lives at 10, I just adjust the volume pot and pickups on my guitar for different sounds. For me this is great cause no matter where I am on stage, I have my guitar with me !!.

This is probably the only downfall, as soon as I got it home I changed the valves for a full compliment of JJ's, EF806, ECC83s and EL84's as well as a JJ GZ34. I also gave all of the screws a tighten as some of them were simply finger tight. The JJ GZ34 is quite a bit taller than the standard 5AR4 and hence the retaining spring and cover are a bit tight.
The amp was VERY microphonic when first started up, changed the valves and it is now a different beast. No rattling noises just pure tone.
Be aware that the speakers are NOT the same as the UK Celestion Blues, they are VOX Blues made in China, basically the same but with a different cone. This does change the sound a small amount, but unless you know EXACTLY what the UK blues sound like, it is of little concern.

Haven't dealt with, I identified the bad valves in the store before purchasing and managed to get a sizeable discount, enough to buy 4 sets of valves.

Been playing on and off for around 10 years or so. Would definately buy another if I could find a similar deal.
I love the cleans and the break up, it is just so touch sensitive, it really reacts to the sound of your guitar.
Only thing I don't like, is that I would like it to have a little bit more filtering, there are slight ghost notes that are just audible when it is played by it's self. Cannot hear them in a band/live situation however.
Only thing I would like added is a nice spring reverb.

2007 Model in Mahogany. Gorgeous in every way, really. Even smells good. Only build quality is suspect compared to the Black Cat I also have. Fantastic range of sounds available with the top boost, treble cut. I love it - does many, many sounds really well.

It's simply the most musical amplifier I have ever used and that includes various Boogie, various Black Cat. It is quite noisy in operation, and crackles and pops a bit, but trust me, you would forgive it once you dig in. It makes me sound better than I really am, it would make anyone sound better. It's more like an instrument in it's own right. I wanted THAT sound, Libertines, British 60's rock, chiming clean sounds. This provides it.

My only concern. First one I got home and one channel was dead. Second one lasted three months then wouldn't switch on and blew fuses when I attempted to fire it up. At rehearsal. Band members laughed and regaled me with legendary tales of AC30's fragility through the ages. Great. I nearly set fire to it :-(

OK - if I could, this would be an 11. Why? Well, first off Coda in Luton were great when the first Pox had to be returned, then when the second one conked, (-and I WAS pissed...), it went like this: I called Vox UK in MK, took the amp. directly back to them, (much nearer for me than Coda), the NEXT DAY I got a call to say the amp. was ready, fixed, bench run, and had been re-valved as a precaution. Now that boys, is service. Very, very impressed. Big difference when I tried to get my Fulltone Tape Echo fixed, for example. I love the way Vox stood by the product and when I explained we were rehearsing and gigging again within a week the Vox crew got on the case and got me up and running within 24hrs. It doesn't get better than this - pity they don't make the thing in MK!

Coda had a fantastic deal on these; I originally wanted the 15 Watt version but I'm glad now I got the 30 - it's an amp. for life. Would never sell it, my Black Cat is excellent, but I like the sound of the Vox better. Always wanted an AC30 - I would be surprised if there is a better one available, (OK, someone will have a forty year old one that will sound as good...), but this amp. is better than I will ever be as a guitarist. At whatever it's original full price would have been, it would still be a steal 'cause I've tried a hundred different quality guitar amps. and this is THE BEST SOUNDING AMP. I HAVE EVER USED. Simple as. Therfore has to be a ten, despite the build/reliabilty issues.
