50W EL34 Tube amp. 2 Channels : one is supposed to have the classic Vox sound, the other is a more modern hard rock sound. Came with a footswitch for channel switching. Two 12" Whaferdale speakers. More than enough options on both channels.

I played a Fender MIA Telecaster, a Gibson Firebird Studio and a Fender MIM Strat in this. It sounded just Ok. The sound of the amp by itself is not bad, but in a band situation, it does'nt cut thru. It's a shame that my old Traynor YGM-3 (20Watts) sounds louder plugged in the two Whaferdale speakers than the Vox.

I have been playing guitar for 15 years. I have pix only Orange OR-80, Traynor YBA-3 and YGM-3. This Vox is not a bad amp, it just does'nt compare with an AC30. It sounds too modern for my taste.

This amp has an amazing array of features. 2 differently voiced, yet very "Voxy" channels. Boost, and bright switch (which actually do something), footswitch, 50 watts, and a great looking package! PLENTY of power, and it has Ruby power tubes, and Tung-sol preamp tubes. Quality piece of gear.

I use it with my MIA Strat and MIA Tele. Both sound amazing through this amp. VERY quite, especially for a tube amp. The clean channel has the AC30 clean with no problems. Like the top boost channel, upping the gain a bit, it get's a bit dirty. However, if you leave the gain fairly low, this amp has an insane amount of clean headroom. I play mostly clean or slightly overdriven, and this is the best amp I've ever played for my style of play.

I would say that yes, you can depend on this amp. Even though it is made in China, the components all look well made, and use high quality stuff in the build process.

I've been playing for about 20 years. I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, a Marshall acoustic amp, 2 electric guitar, 1 acoustic, a mandolin, and a bass. I compared this amp to other all-tube amps in it's price range, and nothing even comes close. The ONLY thing I wish is that this amp would have come with a dust cover. Other than that...great stuff.

two channels with additional effects, named differently but mostly doing tone. has reverb, which is the only effect and it is very suttle so you won't notice even if it is on maximum position. two channels are noticibly different tones but the range of eq are too extream.

this amp almost drives all our band members crazy. this doesn't take the foot pedal effects rather pretty much make them all same in overdrive and distortion. clean tone makes very high sensitive tone without enough middle nor base, and still not the bright or clean.

Features are useful i suppose. Having two channels is with master volume is nice. Also has a series effects loop and a direct out for recording. Both work great. Comes with reverb---no tremolo is a bit disappointing but i deal with it. It is versatile but i feel that it does everything just OK. O ya...its disgustingly HEAVY!!!!! This honestly could be a legit reason not to buy the amp.

I play a players deluxe strat and a prs ce 22. I mostly play rock n roll, alternative and christian rock(church music). Honestly i really don't think channel sounds like an ac30. Its trying to be something it isn't which is NOT a good thing. I really think this amp is closer to a marshall than it is two a vox amp. It has el34s! Its not a bad amp. Personally i like a cleaner amp, but for what its worth, the high gain sounds of channel two sound GREAT. Granted it is so far from the "Vox" sound that I tend to hate this amp. My advice: Figure out what sound you really need and buy an amp that is made for that sound. This amp, as i mentioned previously, tries to cover jazz to rock to metal---doing only a mediocre job.

I would say to stay away from this amp. If your looking for vox tone...YOU WILL NOT FIND IT HERE. save up your money a lil more and buy an ac3o or ac15...sounds soo much better. I am personally a fender guy and the cleans just do not compare. HOWEVER---if you are simply looking for a crunchy rock...maybe metal...tone, this amp may just be for you. I would suggest just buying a marshall then.
FINAL THOUGHT: STAY AWAY FROM THIS AMP!!!

Having two channels is a big plus. Reverb on both channels is great. I have no complaints here except for that the amp should have came with casters. The amp weighs 69lbs. I installed casters on mine but factory casters would have been nice.

Ive owned orange, mesa, marshall and fender amps and to me the cleans sounds like a classic vox ac 30 and the overdrive sounds like a mesa rectifier. I play a gibson les paul, sg and hollow body and the amps sound great with all three. I love this amp

Made in People's Republic of China in 2008. Very versatile for blues, jazz, rock, perhaps metal. I'm sure the rest of the features are mentioned already. It weighs 67 pounds! Allthough not a feature, it is worth mentioning that it has 3 handles, but no casters. I would rather have casters.

I used 3 American strats, A les Paul, and a few hollow body PRS's. I wanted to mention that in my tone search. I had no problem getting the "chime" every one talks about. The clean channel is very Voxy, but not much on bass for a 50 watt tube amp with two 12 inch speakers. The crunch channel sounds a lot like a modern Marshall made by Korg (which also makes Vox's PCBs). Mine went dead after a week, so I had plenty of time to dial in the tone, and was very pleased with the overall sound of the amp.

This is where it failed, litterally. Sad thing was, the others in the chain were dead too. I originally wanted an AC15, but one was dead, the other wounded and mamed (store demos). Whaddya gonna do? I gave up on Vox. Three amps, two dead, one almost dead. It should be noted somewhere in thses reviews that they only have a one year warranty. I think that speaks volumes for Vox, no confidence in their products. The PCB boards in these are massive. Good luck repairing one. I was lucky mine was in the 30 day return period. No more Vox!

I have had so many Korg products fail it would take hours to list them all. Marshall amps, Vox amps, Korg multi-effects. I am not about to lug a 77 pound amp back and forth to the repair shop every month. The store offered my a new one, but I said no thanks.

I have been playing 30 years off and on, mostly the last 8 years. I have owned about 60 amps, nostly tube amps. Maybe 10 were Vox/Marsall made by Korg. Korg has the worst reputation of any of the major brands I can think of. I retuned mine for an Epiphone Custom Blues 30 for half the price and couldn't be happier. Yes the Vox sounded better, but I would be afraid to own one out of warranty. I also lump Marshall in that same group of unreliable gear because they are made my Korg, probably in China. My Epiphone comes with a 5 year warrenty, has a lot more variety of sounds, and a wood cabinet to boot. What a shame Vox has such a good tone in the AC series, but horrible reliability. If you are looking for a Class A amp, consider Epiphone, or at this price, a used botique amp.

OK, I am so sick of Fender amps breaking down that I got rid of my Hot Rod Deluxe. JUNK!! I have always liked the Vox sound but were too pricey for me. I splurged and got the AC50CP2. This amp has all of the features that I was looking for. Nothing too complcated here. Keep it simple. I was not to happy about the fact that it does not have a tremelo. I bought the Vibravox and that thing is pretty damn nice. I didn't like the Ruby tubes it came with so I switched them out with Electro-Harmonix 6AC7's. Much better. This amp is very versatile for the music I play. Classic rock. I just love the vintage sound. Oh yeah, this amp is heavy. Well built.

I play a variety of guitars. What I really dig is how my Gibson SG w/ P90's sounds. I can get close to the Townshend Live at Leeds type of sound from the clean channel to downright nasty dirty gritty sound on the second channel. I use my Gibson 61 reissue SG on the second. So far I have been able to dial in the sound that I like. My wife was walking the dog and she heard me from 3 long blocks away!! This thing can get loiud with no break up. So far so good.

So far so good. Like I wrote earlier..I changed the tubes out. That is just me. I like the 6CA7's better. So far it has not let me down. I have read some reviews that this amp kind of sucks. We all have our own opinions and that's cool. We can take what we need and leave the rest. So far.....so good.

I have been playing for 25 years and have gone through many amps.If I had it my way I would love a Hi-Watt but those or rock star expensive. I switched to a Vox and am friggin' so stoked. I cannot wait to turn this up and play! In ending, I love the features, perfect for what I need. Has the sound that I like, is loud with no breakup, it looks cool but is a heavy bast***! Remember, this is my opinion which usually does'nt amount to much!! Cheers, have fun and Vox does rock!

Lots of features here, nothing to complain about. 15 knobs that control 2 channels. Fat and bright switch on high-gain channel 2. Effects loop and line out (for recording purposes or slaving another amp if you want, which i did and was pretty friggn' cool!)Last but not least, it has your choice of an 8 or 16ohm line-out for speaker for additional speaker cabinet (or two depending on how you set up your internal speakers). Took me a while to dial in the sound for my humbucking Les Paul; I would suspect that it would be easier to dial in for single-coil equipped guitars. Lots of ways to adjust to get your the sound you need...everything that you really need to be honest! Very happy with this part!

Myeh...I was expecting more to be honest. But don't stop reading just yet - I spent a good whole day evaluating this amp. Used it with my Les Paul and dialed in my sound. It's like I can almost hear its' potential, but it sounds like it has the equivalent of having stuffy sinuses and a scratchy sore throat. Maybe it's the speakers or tubes, but whatever the case, it sounds a bit ugly even with the settings dialed in. But now about the channels - Channel 1 is classic VOX chime with gain and eq control to it so it can go warm clean to Zeppelin Rock either way, pretty darn close re-creation of the tone that you get from an ac30 or ac15; happy to say that i liked this channel quite a bit, the VOX chime is definitely here. But then...Channel 2 is different in some ways. I've never heard this kinda sound before. It is very Marshall-midrangey sounding, but i can tell that it has some VOX essence to it, specifically the chimey highs that you get form it. Decent amount of gain, but not for metalheads. But like i said earlier, you are still distracted by that overly raspy sound that is more apparent in this side of the channel. When I put a line out the back and slaved it to my old Gibson amp, it sounded quite good coming through, and the haze was gone! So there are some weird issues going on here, but I have faith in that it can be fixed...and I guess I will be brave and be one of the first owners to do so. I think that the circuitry and overall signature sound in this new breed of amp is intact, but I must try to unmask it.

I honestly question the reliability of this amp at this point. Is the haze going to get worse, or are the speakers going to wear in and end up sounding better? One good thing I can say though is that externally the amp is sturdy and well made. Everything is screwed tight and latched down; they must be paying china better than most companies.

I see some potential in this amp. I am going to inquire about changing the speakers or maybe driving the load through an external cab. Maybe get the tubes changed too, cause they might be the cause of the haze. Overall, i like it. The sound is new and different, and I'm betting that i can make it sound like it's supposed to because i like its' character and its' looks to. Pretty cool amp sitting there in the corner of my room, light picking up the gold trim and retro-throwback classic british vibe. You know it's a VOX, but you really haven't seen or heard anything quite like it...at least that's what i hope people end up thinking when i'm done with it. If you're looking to get one, go ahead, but be prepared to tinker with it a bit and pay for some upgrades. Might be a great deal for a tube combo once ya do.

2008 model. 2x12, 50 watt, 2 channel, tube combo amplifier. I have owned two VOX amps in the past as well as several others, so I feel I'm able to give a pretty competent review. And in this, I'm going to make the most comparisons with the AC30. This rig is heavy like an AC30 and has similar dimensions. It features a 12AX7 tube preamp section, but unlike an AC30, has solid state rectification and twin EL34 power tubes. Thankfully, it has its controls on the front -- instead of the goofy & archaic top-mounted, rear-facing control panel on the AC30. The control set is about as complete as anyone could squeeze on the CP2's panel, having separate 4-band EQ controls for each channel, separate reverb controls, Bright and Fat switches on channel 2, and no less than five volume controls on the amp. The rear panel sports various speaker jacks, slave jack with level control, and effects loop with level switch. Footswitch for reverb and channel included. Stock speakers are the VOX-labeled Wharfedale 12's.

Okay, here's the deal(breaker). Admittedly, I am pretty particular about my tone, so any amplifier I use better play hardball. I am not some kid that could use anything that shreds, I'm a big boy and I need an amp that's going to give me inspiring tone and a clear "voice" - even with distortion. Having said that, I do understand that good Rock tone often needs rawness to be convincing, so this is a factor too. The AC50CP2 is touted as having the best of both worlds - jangly and heavy - and in this respect, it does have a measure of these qualities going on. However, I personally found the whole amp to be sonically underwhelming. Channel 1 has the VOX chime, but has nowhere near the sparkle of my AC30 (with Alnico Blue's). Channel 2 goes further downhill; despite the Treble and Presence controls plus a Bright switch, this channel is (disappointingly) still pretty dark-sounding. What's more, the overdrive this channel produces is unfocused and rather amateurish for a $1000 rig. The one really positive thing is that this is a SUPER-quiet amp. Overall, it seems as if VOX is doing a "buffet-style" amp: a variety of tones to choose, but no one thing being great.
Reliability
:

The other problem here is this. Shortly after I first fired the VOX up I had a nice microphonic howl going on. I understand the nature of tubes, but come on! Also, as a side note, the covering around the control panel corners was poorly applied and quite wavy.

I have been playing about 25 years and I currently own a Mesa Stiletto Ace and a Fender Super Reverb reissue. I play classic rock, blues, and pop. I really wanted to like the AC50CP2 for just what it was advertised to do, but it was disappointing to me. In all fairness, it IS internally similar to the original AC50 amp, so an AC30 it will never be. My advice is: don't just swallow the hype (for ANY rig), and do careful amp listening/comparisons when you shop around. It's your money on the line.
