12" guitar amp speaker, drop-in replacement for Celestion G12M 'greenback'. Very similar to Celestion, but has foam pad on front and back of speaker frame flange to allow both front or rear loaded cabinets. (Celestion has cork for rear-loading only). Does not have green plastic cover over magnet (not sure what this is for, anyway).

I put a pair of these in a 2x12 closed back cab. Ran a mid 70s master volume Marshall JMP thru them. Sounded good, plenty of low end, not overly bright/harsh.
I pulled out the WGS Green Berets and replaced them with the 'real deal' made in England G12M greenbacks. It took about 10 minutes to do the swap. I could not hear any difference. I would guess that if I had two cabinets side by side I could hear some difference, but any difference there may have been was forgotten in ten minutes.
According to the specs, Celestions are 95db and Green Berets are 101 db. However, I could not hear any volume difference. I put the Marshall on standby during the switch, did not touch any controls. Tone and efficiency the same.

Rated at 25 Watts, but I know Celestions can hold up to a lot. I would guess the Green Berets are the same. Running 25 Watts 'clean' thru a speaker is a lot different that running 25 Watts 'heavy distortion'. I have blown 25 Watt speakers (another manufacturer) with 25 Watt heavy distortion before. Celestions can handle it, assume that WGS can too.

Talked with WGS on the phone, very helpful. Ordered the speakers and on my door step 2 days later.

Why send your money to China for new Celestions, when you can buy made-in-America clones for about 2/3 the price? Probably don't use lead-based paint, either. Couldn't hear the difference, very happy.

Pretty much the same/similar construction as a Celestion speaker. Well built for sure. I would not put them in the class of my Electro-Voice EVM12-L "Pro Series" but for a celestion type they are as good or better than celestions. I own other celestions such as G12T-75's and Wolverines. I even have some really old VOX celestion 10's for historical reference. Also have a wide variety of "Vintage" Jensens and Eminence in ceramic and alnico for historical reference. All original cones too.

Right out of the box, these sounded really good and got even better as they broke in over a several week period.
The first set of these I bought went into a Marshall TSL602 which had the original Celestion "Wolverine" speakers (which were spikey but loud as heck and in your face).
The Green Beret offered the traditional 70's "lost marshall sound". Very organic, woody type smooth cone breakup with lots of low ooomph and mids. The highs are nice in my opinion (not spikey but just right). Worth the effort for sure. Great chunky chord speakers but also well defined for single note definition at moderate power levels.
I bought a set of the green frame Beret's for a Marshall 1936 cab which sits under the TSL. The TSL602 is an open back so the sound is open and with less lows than the closed back 1936 cab which is definitely darker with more lows.
The mix of the open and closed back setup works really well for a high gain setup like mine. It smolders with tone and has an aggressive marshall growl now.

Had em' for at least 7 months now...no problems yet. Still enjoying them.
When I run them with my JTM 50 watt "Plexi" from 1969, I will use a Marshall PowerBrake because that sucker has killer volume and power for a 50 watt head (talk about cone excursion...wow). One of these days I will push them to see how long they will last at full power, but I do not need to do that even when playing at "Stage Volumes". I still use a power brake cause I don't need that kind of stage presence as a courtesy to everyone there. I am not Hendrix playing Woodstock.

Speakers were at my house within 2 days of ordering. I have bought the Veteran 30, the Veteran 10 and these Green Berets (at different times) and received each within two days ordering.

I would say the overall rating is very good. I use a lot of "vintage gear" from guitars, amps and effects which are "sought after" or "Dream Gear" and I think these are great classics to be.

Purchased 2 Green Berets (Green colour) in early 2008; mounted in a 2x12 open backed cab in March. I play in a mix of punk/rock/alt-country bands.

I've been mainly using an American Standard strat through an Orange Tiny Terror. I find at lower gain levels, these speakers really shine. I love the tight bass, punchy mids, and smooth highs. The main complaint I have is the squishyness at higher volumes and gain levels. As soon as I crank it up, I find the speakers lose some punch and start sounding hissy. The amp obviously plays a part in this, however I've heard my TT through speakers that don't have as much breakup and I don't get as much hiss when I crank the gain. I acknowlege that this is personal preference (many people LOVE this sound), but it's not necessarily for me. This is why I'm giving them a 6. Some people would give them a 10 for the same reasons.

WGS is one of the most pleasant companies I have dealt with. Fast shipping (and I live in Canada) and great customer service made for a great experience. Kudos to WGS.

Don't get me wrong, this is a solid speaker. It's just not what I was after. I may use them in the future if I get another amplifier or if I want to pair it with a "cleaner" speaker, but I don't particularly like them with my current setup.

The speaker i bought was a 16 ohm version with the regular black back. I got one for a 1x12 open back cab that made basically to the specs of the Valve Jr cab since the valve jr is what i play and the folks at epiphone spent a while designing that cab for this amp and whatever im rambling. Oh also has the ability to be drop thru mounted or mounted on the back of the baffle i did the drop through specs for cut out size are provided on their website.

Im playing an epiphone SG special and an 81 MIJ squier bullet with a Bitmo TRIO modded Valve Jr. with an OCD and it sound BAD*** i have never owned a speaker cabinet before this one I am a NEWB but i can tell you that it sounds like what they say it does and i am a huge Hendrix/Cream/Zeppelin/black keys/whatever if you like overdriven guitar/ seriously crazy overdriven guitar there is no other I have heard the veteran 30s and these are just way more full sounding to me. About as awesome as the distored tones this thing puts out are the cleans though they are very very clear and bell like they aren'y BSing about that I never beleived the "bell-like" tone but they really are kinda like that every note sounds so balanced. The only reason i am giving it a 9 and not a 10 is because i have never played a real G12M speaker so i cant really compare with personal experience.

Ok here is the deal the speaker is about 75 shipped to your door which is about 100 dollars less that you can get a crappy chinese "real" celestion G12m reissue i have heard more bad than good about the reissue speakers. All i know is that my ears hurt right now from HIGH volume playing my valve jr BLASTS through one of these biatches, BUY IT. Also if u are skeptical about the limited number of reviews for this product DONT BE i think most of us who have them are playing too much to write a review.

Using a pair in an oversized 2x12 birch cab, closed back.
Marshall 1987x 50 watt
humbuckers and single coils
I've played various g12m 25's over 25 years, so i can sum it up as this: they combined all the good qualities of the various g12m 25 cones and put them into one speaker. It's like the best sounding Celestion g12m 25 that never existed.
They sound better and better as they break in too.
I'd like to get 2 more but they are currently SOLD OUT!

I prefer these over nearly all the vintage speakers i've played in the past. I'm sure they would kill in a 4x12.
WGS Green Berets are where it's at for me, i'm REALLY glad that i tried these, they are keepers! Fantastic value!
