Dunno the year the amp was made in, but it's gotta be over 25 :)
I bought it some ten years ago, when there was an embargo on all trading with my country (Serbia), hence the price.
Works great for me. I play everything but metal music.
Great for jazz, too - a fat, roundy clean sound.
And it is very versatile, since you can play with the EQ alot.

Sound Quality : 10
It's loud as hell, stays clean all the way up.
Don't like the rec out, I prefer using a mike.

The drive does suck, but I don't really need it. There are so many pedals to choose from. (Now...)

Reliability : 9
Reliable as it can be, only changed the pots after who knows how many years.

Don't know.

I use it with my '83. Strat and an Eko (kinda like a Les Paul, I luv that Italian guitar).
The only thing that bothers me is that it weights like an ox, thank God it has those little wheels...But lifting it? UGH!

bought new in 1985 (!) from 8th Street Music in-store. 2 channels, clean and overdrive, parametric EQ with "Q" control, reverb and 3 tone controls per channel (bass, mid, treble/pull bright). separate footswitch jacks for reverb and channel, high and low sensitivity inputs, two speaker outputs, line out, and AC out. the "pull fat" option on the overdrive channel's gain knob helps if you don't have an overdrive pedal. 100 solid state watts into one 15" driver.

Sound Quality : 9
two things you really need to know here - 1) the overdrive is not that great, as is typical for a solid state amp, and... 2) the cleans are excellent. this was my main gigging amp for 8 or 9 years, and it did me very nicely as it sounds great and the reverb is very nice (i used a pedal for distortion). of course it's loud as all hell and stays clean forever. after neglecting this baby for a while, i recently got a new speaker for it, picking up an Eminence Legend 151, and this really gave it a new lease on life. i am going to use this if i start gigging again, running a line out from my Peavey Classic 30 as they sound great together. you can get a good deal on one of these amps on eBay, so if you want a great, reliable amp for cleans/pedals, i would highly recommend picking one up along with a Legend 151 for $60 more - it's a great combination.

are you kidding? these Yamaha G100's are famous for being overbuilt, and with good reason. this amp has played 500 shows, been used at every band practice for years, been thrown in and out of cabs, vans, and cars, experienced wild temperature fluctuations, been used at an outdoor gig in December when it was snowing (don't ask), and has had bass and keyboards played through it on a few occasions, without so much as a hiccup. after WWIII, the only surviving forms from our world will be cockroaches and Yamaha G100's... and maybe "Try AOL" discs... ;)

how would i know, when this amp can survive bazooka fire at close range? hmm?

Overall Rating : 9
been playing for 25 years. i played an Ibanez Roadstar through this back in the day, and these days i use a homebrew (Bubinga/Zebrawood body, Kramer neck, SD single coil neck and GFS Retrotron Austin bridge), and a Squire S-73 (with replacement Grover tuners, brass hardware, plus the excellent GFS Fat PAF alnico humbuckers). if i lost it i might try to find another, as i want to have a reliable solid state amp around to complement the Classic 30.

it's an early 80's model for sure, however there is no year printed.
Fairly versatile amp!! I play alot of heavy metal and im often switching from clean to distorted sounds, overall it sounds great with whatever i plug into it.

Sound Quality : 8
I am using a 1974 les paul custom with newer seymor duncan pickups. I play mostly heavy metal with some classical guitar as well.
I noticed a LITTLE unwanted fuzz when i had the reverb up all of the way, then again i also had a Boss metal zone pedal hooked into it at the time, maybe have been why.

the clean channel is always crisp and clear, no problems

brutal? LOL no.. the distortion is not brutal. its good enough. i dont use the distortion on the amp, i just use my own pedals.

Reliability : 8
I can depend on it. its had some topples getting in and out of the car, been through some pretty brutal weather as well. I would not use it at a gig though. it is great for practicing and just jamming in a small environment though.

its broken down before, took it to the shop and now it is fine.

Customer Support : 9
the repair was done long outside of its warranty.
i had no problem finding an authorized service center
and as for the warranty, i do not know how much it was originally

Overall Rating : 8
its great. several years with it now, i plan to hold on to it!

This is a late 70's amp that was in really bad shape (cosmetically) when I bought it at a local pawn shop. It is solid state and built like a tank (very heavy). It has two independant channels with mid, bass, treble, and volume adjustments. Both channels have a pull pot for treble boost and channel two has a gain adjustment. It has a master volume and a parametric e.q. that is very cool. It has a long spring reverb that works very well. 100 watts of total power and a 15 inch speaker complete this very powerfull amp. A lot of really good features that allow me to relly adjust my sound.

Sound Quality : 8
The sound is wonderfull for my music style. It stays clean for as loud as you can stand it on both channels. It has wonderfull bass and the reverb is not overwhelming as some Fenders can be. The distortion is not that good. But that is not what these amps were designed to do. They were made to play clean at high volumes. If you want overdrive or distortion then get a decent pedal. This amp is very quiet, even with single coils ( which is all I use).I am going to give this category an 8 since the dist. sucks but the clean is where it is at.

Reliability : 10
Well it's 24 years old and runs like a top. I guess that answers that. When i got this amp it was in the back of a pawn shop and had a wasp nest in it. It was covered in 2 inches of dust and we plugged it in and it came to life and played like a new one. What else can you ask for.I would not go to a gig without a backup(Stupid Question). I would not think twice about relying on this amp though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I think it has outlived it's warranty. But I am sure Yamaha would help me if needed. I have got a Yamaha SSC-500 guitar that was (supposedly)owned by Jerry Garcia and they have went out of their way to help me with info. on it.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for quite some time and I have owned plenty of quality amps. For the price I paid and what I got. I have to say that this is a fantastic value. I only cleaned the thing up and put a new grill cloth in it. Total price $ 105.00. You can't get a decent 15 watt piece of crap for this amount. If you are looking for a great amp that is really loud and very clean then take a look at these amps. They are still a few around and you can get them really reasonable. They were quite popular in the early 80's but since everyone has went back to tube amps they are easy to get and really inexpensive. Just be sure to get a early to late 70's model. The mid 80's ones were crap. Check the internet and you will see that many are still used in recording studios and on tour. Ebay is a good place to look for one.

The features are great on this amp. It has the parametric EQ so you can fine tune this amp to your perfect tone. The chanels aren't bad, but chanel 2 the supposed distortion chanel doesn't to jack but make your guitar sound worse. No complaints about chanel 1 though. By the way, if you've never seen one of these it's an amp head.

Sound Quality : 7
Like I said up above the distortion is real beat, doesn't do jack. Clean chanel is beautiful though. Sounds great with my SG's humbuckers. Once and a while at high volumes the sound will crap out(might be partically due to my cabinit though). I wouldn't trust this section well considering i found this amp in a dumpster. But don't let that fool you, it's really in great shape,.

I think the guy who thought the parametric eq gave a lot of different sounds did not know much about para eq's. This will add or subtract a freq range that you pick. The width is determined br Q = a narrow or wide range can be affected. This makes up for diff guitars and rooms. If youcant take out a freq. try adding to the opposite freq.
There are many variations and this can Keep You Busy

This 100 watt combo sports 2 channels with the ability to switch between the two via the footswitch or a pushbutton on the unit. It has a 15" speaker which is odd for a guitar amp as they usually use that size on a bass amp. Nevertheless it is a loud amp that is ideal for jamming and can even be used for vocals however it does not provide a decent sound and little clarity. It has a three band parametric EQ incorporating; level, Q, and frequency. This gives a wide variety of different sounds allowing for many styles.

Sound Quality : 6
The sound for this amp is good at low volumes but when you crank it it is quite distorted even on the clean channel. I mainly used it for metal songs with a distortion pedal so that didn't worry me all that much. I also used it for vocals which did not provide much satisfaction. No volume, no clarity.

Reliability : 9
Definately reliable. Never had a problem it my time with it. Credits to the manufacturer.

I've been playing for 5 or 6 years now and I used it with a fender squire strat which for a relatively cheap guitar sounds remarkably good. I also used a Denio distortion pedal. A piece of shit but it does the job. Hey ! It was all I could afford at the time. Overall the amp served me well but I think it is time to move on....
