Circa 1983. Pretty versatile workhorse. Could do lots of clean, fuzzy and solid-state distortion. 2-channels with pull-bright trebles and pull-fat gain knobs. Three channel parametric equalizer (rotary). The EQ was very nice once you got to know how to predict the response from the knobs. Spring reverb. Direct out and external speaker jack. Footswitch for channel and reverb. Had two "jaguar" 12" speakers. Had plenty of power for all of the gigs I did ranging from gymanisiums to frat houses to medium sized clubs.

Sound Quality : 6
Had the amp for 16 years so I played many guitars with it. A Les Paul copy with Seymour Duncan humbuckers sounded pretty decent. 2 strats- one was an HM strat with a dimarzio double coil at the bridge. Used a Dean Markley Pro Mag with an acoustic guitar. The amp didn't suit any particular one well, but was versatile enough to work hard for me with all guitars and styles. Amp wasn't too niosy unless cranked past 5- which provided enough loudness for any drum set. Clean channel didn't really break up too much when loud. Good for loud clean- but not fat and tubey. The distortion was OK (actually, good) for some punk-style and disco style distortion (Husker Du, Duran Duran) but wasn't really good for metal or sweet lead playing. I used a Chandler Tube driver as my main overdrive and got some pretty satisfying sounds, but I was always a bit unhappy with the distortion.

Reliability : 7
This fella blew out a speaker after about 5 years of use- but it was hard use, gigging my way, drunkenly and rambunctioulsy, through frat-houses and basement parties, and then small Seattle clubs. Somewhere along the line, one of the EQ pots developed progressively worsening nasty "pop" when it was turned (Real loud pop- even at low volumes). It probably needed to be cleaned or replaced- I stopped turning the dial- it was easier that way. I had a backup amp (Fender Princeton Chorus), but I rarely brought it to gigs- except for a time when I was using the Yamaha as a slave for the Princeton- which had a much sweeter distortion. The construction was solid and I'd still have it today if my car hadn't blown up in the garage and burned the poor thing (and my strat and about $1000 of other gear). It came with casters which I didn't really appreciate until I lost one temporarily.

Played Tom Dooley in 1975- still playing today. I recently replaced a bunch of gear I lost in a fire. $200 Squire strat sunburst (that my three-year-old can drop all he wants) Doesn't play half bad. A Fender DeVille 2X12 tweed combo (very cool). Washburn J-10, floating pickup, jazz box, Martin backpacker. Pile o' classical guitar that my wife had since she was a tot.

I didn't replace this amp with another G100- see above

The Yamaha cannot compare to the DeVille- Except maybe in clean channel loudness- but still doesn't sound as good.

Great features. Two channels, clean and dirty. Para EQ. Reverb. Mine was made in 1981 I believe. I purchased it new about 20 years ago. I have used this amp at home only. I may start using it at church, but it is a little heavy to haul around.

Sound Quality : 9
I play Fender Strats, with single coil pickups. Plenty of power and versatility.

Reliability : 9
Very reliable. The only problem has been a noisy pot in the Para EQ. Probably just from age.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to call Yamaha.

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing 20 some years. If stolen I would replace it with a line 6 Flextone. I guessed on the price I paid for it new. It is hard to remember. Overall a great quality amp.

I do not know when this amp was made; maybe late 70's/early 80's, but I don't know for sure. Most of my musical associates swear by tube amps, but Yamaha has teamed up with "Cupid" and has made me fall in love with the sounds that these solid state amps produce. I play blues, R&B, classic rock, some raggae and country. Soooooo, I guess (to me) it's pretty darn versatile. It has two channels: one clean the other a distortion channel. Both are foot switchable. It has a parametric EQ for adding or subtracting certain frequency responses. There is a "pull bright" switch at both treble knobs. The gain control knob offers a "pull fat" tone control. The 100 watts rms is plenty loud enough for most venues.

Sound Quality : 9
I play mostly strat styled guitars; single and double coil pickups carries nicely thru it's circuitry. Depending on your playing style, the stings on the guitar can be made to sound as though it has quite a bite to them without compromising it's clean chord fingerings.

Reliability : No Opinion
Although I have not owned this unit long enough to know how well it performs in the reliability test arena, I am confident enough to use this amp on a gig without a backup. I first played on one of these amps at a commercial practice facility. It was obviously abused (stuff dangling from everywhere), but the thing sounded great.

No dealings with the Yamaha folks. (yet)

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing semi/pro for a number of years. I own another yamaha
4x10 combo amp that I adore. I also own a Fender Deluxe Plus (for tiny venues)that's not so bad either. I have played thru the infamous Fender Twins , but I like my Yamaha more. If I am afforded the opportunity, I would get another one to have around as a back up.

I've been reading other reviews and I guess this amp was made in the 80's or so, I'm not sure. I play at church and we have a drummer, so this amp is turned up to 4 and 5 regularly. It could blow out everyone there if I wanted, PA's and all. Details 2 channel 2 EQs (standard and parametric) spring reverb 2 12"speakers Pull for FAT/BRIGHT switchs 1 channel has a gain for that "bluesy" sound.
It is definatly solid state so that clipped sound just isn't there.
Has a f/s for the channels and reverb which I really like.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Epiphone Riviera archtop w/mini humbukers and play thru a BOSS CE-3 sometimes, but usually use a KORG AX1G. It has 69 different effects plus loads of other stuff. I can get some good sounds by editing the presets and now make up my own. This amp works really good as it is clean clean clean loud or low. I t works better up high than soft and on some slow church songs it looses something.
I love the Para eq. and have just started using it. Thinking of just using good strings(very important)and the units reverb as this is a good sound for church. I'll use the KORG for jammin w/friends. Maby a tube screamer will work good too.

Reliability : 10
Never a problem, just keeps doing its thing no matter how many moves.

I did get some answers to some ? but not a owmer manual like some got. They seemed helpful and answered my?

Overall Rating : 7
I got this at a steal I thought. This is a big amp and has a lot of features I'd miss if it were gone. I am thinking of trying that Fender sound next but I have been very happy with this amp and may Keep it if a tube screamer works.

Mine was made in 1983 and has the same features as the previous review. I find it has everything you could want on an amp with the exception of DSP. I replaced the speakers with a pair out of a Fender Twin and the tone improved dramaticly!. I run strictly on the left side of the amp which doesn't have EQ or configuration, and just use pedals. I used this amp live with a hot 50's group in Seattle across from a guy using a Fender Twin Reverb and had no problem, (to his dismay) keeping up tonally with him.

Sound Quality : 9
Playing through a Strat, ( what else), this amp works for any kind of style you play.Rockabilly, Blues, Surf rock, you name it.It's perfectly quiet and is less prone to the effects of lights found at casinos etc.In short, this amp sounds so close to a Twin it propably POed Fender when Yamaha came out with it.

Reliability : 10
It ain't broke yet!

My brother bought this amp new and when I got it from him he had lost the manual. Called Yamaha and a very nice lady sent me a copy of the manual , as it had be out of print for 15 years, in three days. I'd say Yamaha is as good as CS gets in this industry.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing 25 years and have paired down to the Yamaha and a Soldano for amps as they cover all my needs. If lost I'd start a new journey in a lighter direction. This amp takes two men and a boy to move. It still sounds better than any other transister I've heard. If you can find one used I'd recommend it highly as they're cheaper than dirt on the used market.

This amp is probobly the most versatile amp I have ever played, you can get any sound out of the parametric EQ. It has 2 channels, clean and overdrive. I play this amp everywhere and has plenty power for anyone. It is solid state, has a great reverb, 2 12inch speakers, footswich for channels-reverb, and is 100watts.

Sound Quality : 9
The overdrive channel is great for blues but not for hard rock or medal, (not unuf distorion).I have turned this thing up very loud and the only time I ever hear distortion on the clean chanel is if I strum very hard. I have very powerfull pickups (two humbuckers) and this distortion probobly would'nt happen on single coils. This amp is extremly Quiet on any setting.

Reliability : 10
Ive never had any problems with it at all. I would take it to any gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 9
It is a great amp and I would buy it again. I just dont like the built in distortion that mutch, But if you use a tube simulator pedal sutch as DOD Classic Tube (FX53) it sounds great. And I love the parametric EQ.
