I do not know when it was made, but my father bought this amp for me used in a music store in 1980 or 1981 whe I was 16 years old, and I have owned it ever since. This amp is late 70,s early 80's solid state technology. This amp has all the features as already discused, so i will not cover them. I have played classic rock, punk, rockabilly and blues through this amp over the last 27 years or so. The distortion is the worst that I have ever heard in over 28 years of playing music. Back in the day I used a DOD overdrive preamp to take care of that problem, and then the sound was great. The person who designed the distortion should have been taken out and shot. The power of this amp is beond belief, I have never played with anyone who had a amp that could compete with the volume. When I played out in the early 80,s with this amp, the sound guys would not let turn past 3 or 4 on the volume. This amp also is great for other uses, I currently play through fender tube amps for guitar, but I use this yamaha 100 212 as a bass amp and practice PA to run vocals through, and it sounds great. I have also giged with this as a bass amp and guitar amp, and again the sound is great, outrageous amount of power.

The clean is great for many types of music, however I would warm it up a bit with a tube pre amp, if I were to use it over a fender tube amp. You will blow your eardrums out before you get the clean to distort. As I have stated... dont even think about using this amps built in distortion. I have played fender strats and aluminim neck Kramers, and Kramer and Hagsrtum bass,s through this amp. This amp was good with a overdrive preamp when I played hard rock, and punk, but I perfer the warm sound of fender tubes, as I now play mostly blues based rock and classic rock.

I have owned this amp at least 27 years with no problems ever. It is built like a tank, and heavy as one to. I did gig with it without a back up and I would continue to.

Never had a problem. And this amp is WAY out of warranty.

This is a great amp mostly because it is so versatile. You can play guitar, bass and run vocals for practice. It is built like a tank. I love this amp because of all the many uses it has served over the years. I hope it is never stolen, but if it was, I would replace it with a bass amp and a P.A. because that is my current use for it. It is a great amp for guitar when used with a overdrive preamp for distortion and could be warmed up with a tube pre amp. I am glad that my father bought me this amp so long ago, and I will never sell it.

I bought mine new in the early 1980s. I used it heavily for the first 10 years, but then it was in and out of storage and thrown into a moving van several times over almost another decade. I dusted it off a couple of years ago and began to use it on a regular basis again. It sounds like new, no rattle or other random noise to speak of for all those years of abuse. Other than some dust in the pots which I worked out, this amp has really stood the test of time. I am using the original Yamaha dual speakers and they are brutes. The faceplate has two inputs, a 3 band EQ, a brightness control, distortion, tremelo and optional volume preset- the distort, reverb, tremelo and preset are all foot-swith capable. One thing this amp lacks is a 'standby' power setting. It's either on or off. This would be handy to have for live playing when you want to go silent during set breaks or unplug an instument without dialing down all the knobs or getting that alarming "pop" sound. This feature seems to be pretty standard on newer gear. Granted, this is 1980's vintage solid-state equipment.

Other reviews have commented on the weak quality of the built-in distortion feature. A foot pedal effect is a must for this amp if you need distortion. I use an old Ross footswitch that is the same vintage as the Yamaha, and get a nice gritty sound that I like out of this combo. My limiter/compressor and stereo chorus also run very cleanly through this amp. It is impossible to get this amp to distort at any reasonable playing level. It is truly a brute when it comes to volume. My band mates all play on tube heads (Marshalls mostly), and sometimes I envy the slightly warmer sound coming from their cabinets. On the other hand, these guys get distortion problems alot sooner than I do when we play outdoors or have to fill cavernous spaces. I am usually the only guy that does not need to be mic'd in these settings and my sound is clean at any level. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard with burstbuckers through this amp and our playlist is mostly classic rock and R&B standards. I also have a newer digital piano (also a Yamaha) that I have run through this amp and it sounds fantastic so long as the reverb on the amp is turned down a bit- otherwise it will echo on some of the keyboards built-in effects.

No reliability problems to report other than the noisy pots after a long period of storage. Keep a couple of extra fuses on hand for this amp. It takes two of them, I assume for the dual speakers. This amp is heavy, heavy, heavy. Get a hand cart if you are going to be moving it around. The casters are too small and you will be lifting it over every little bump otherwise. I worry about the internal spring reverb mechanism getting damaged during moves, but so far so good.

This amp is so far out of warranty it really doesn't matter. I have never needed service. But getting a spare part might be a real challenge at this point.

Given that this was the very first amp I ever purchased, I am amazed at what a good choice it turned out to be. I knew very little about audio when I bought this amp and it turned out to be a great choice. I have played through lots of other equipment. Most of the stuff I have borrowed or jacked into seems alot more tempremental than the solid-state design of this Yamaha. I will probably buy a tube head someday just to have the versatility of sound. But for its sheer workhorse qualities, I don't think anything affordable could fully replace the Yamaha.

If you read any of the other reviews this one is simular in it's ratings. Made in the early "80s". Very versatile and powerful tone for just about all styles of music. I play mostly Christian, Jazz/Rock flavored music. This is a channel switching amp, pretty basic features treble, bass, mid, reverb with three band parametric EQ. Two 12" Yamaha speakers and ext.speaker out jack in the back for another cab. if you like.

I use many guitars mostly with humbuckers but I do have a couple of single coils axxes that I'm sure sounds great with this 2x12 combo too. I've just purchased this one used and I am very satisfied with it. This is great for jazz and is very flexible for any other type of music. I also own the G-100-210 and the G-100 piggy-back top both 100 watts. These are great amps and if you see one buy it before someone else dose. Some do not like the distortion but one must know how to use the EQ. to get great tone. I can dial up some really sweet "Santana" type tones from this in the overdrive channel. It can get really nasty depending on what type of guitar you are playing.

I'm sure I can depend on it without backup. I had my 2x10 for over twenty years without problems and this one looks like it's seen some pretty tough time but it still sounds great.

I've been playing for thirty-eight years and traded my Peavey Renown for this baby. The Peavey was very loud but not reliable or as flexible in the tone area. I would replace it if I could find another one. You do not see many of these around now days. I love every thing about this amp, the sound is very meaty. This can stand up to any Fender Twin in my book. It has a little weight to it but that is good. It sounds as heavy as it's weight. A light weight amp usually sounds thin even if it's loud. Try lifting a "Mesa Boogie" and you'll know what I mean.

2 channels (high and low inputs) with bass, mid range and treble controls. as well there is a Bright, Distortion, Reverb, Tremolo (one for speed, one for intensity) And a Volume Preset control. This thing has tons of power. perfect for small gigs and high school gyms, and easy to mic. I use this for gigs and practice. it's never let me down. as well, its pretty light considering its an older style amp with 2 12' speakers.

With this amp im using an American Fender Strat 1983. as well as a Barracuda Les Paul Ripoff....(dont make fun) so im using single coils and double coils. The sound is great. Especially the cleans. The tone is amazing. Unfortunately if you like distortion (which i love) you are in desperate need of a pedal....the distortion is a joke. If you have a good pedal though (i recommend Boss Distortion) this amp has everything you need for the standard rock guitarist. beautiful tone, amazing cleans, and the reverb is PERFECT. easily definable when setting controls and when you want to crank it up for those leads, the sustain lasts forever. If it werent for the distortion this amp would get a 10 for sound. but the distortion is beyond brutal. every once in a while i decide to play with it....then i remember why i have it turned off.

I love this amp and depend on it heavily. i gig with it and never use a backup. its beautiful. when i first bought it....as it was used...the ground plug had been cut off...it was getting some terrible hum...but that was cuz the previous owner is retarded. after having the chord repaired its been flawless.

100 watt solid state with two 12" speakers, high and low inputs, distortion, pre-set volume control, reverb, and tremelo. Bass, middle, treble and bright EQ. It was probably made in the early 80s. It's very loud and it weighs a ton.

My sound is mostly noise rock (Barkmarket, Shellac) I guess. Maybe a little punk or metal. The distortion does suck, but I use a pedal (a Tube Works Real Tube) and it sounds great. I get a lot of compliments on my sound. Many people can't believe it doesn't have tubes. It has a good clean sound and it's not noisy.

I've been playing for about 18 years. I got this because I had left over credit at a music store and grabbed it because I just needed some kind of amp and this was in good shape. I'm glad I did. I'm also glad I hung onto it. I think I may have paid in the neighborhood of $100 or $150 for it. I'm getting a tube head soon so this will probably be demoted to a practice amp but I would recommend one to anybody. It's been good to me.

Solid-state, with two 12" speakers, reverb, tremelo, and distortion. Pre-set volume control, and three-band EQ. One channel (with the effects on it). 100 watts.
It's true; the built-in distortion sucks. It seems to only distort part of the sound. But I use a pedal for those applications, so I'm good on that bit.

It's solid-state; it won't break up at high volumes. But it does get incredibly loud with a good, clean sound, which is exactly what I wanted in this amp.
I bought it used, and it looks like it's seen its fair share of abuse. However, it still works great. Tremelo is extremely variable, as is the reverb (which is spring-driven... should be noticable when you bang your fist on the case. The best kind). The distortion I could probably use when I record, but I'll never use it in live situations.
I play rock 'n' roll (White Stripes style) and other stuff, running my MIM Strat, Squier Tele, and Les Paul copy through it. Hasn't disappointed me yet.

The amp worked in the pawn shop when I bought it, and didn't work when I got home. After searching, I found that one of the fuses had broken (it has two). I replaced both, and the amp had worked fine since.
I would depend on it live. It's built incredibly solid (and weighs a ton because of it).

I would definately buy another like it if it were stolen or broke down. I chose this model because it was cheap, very loud, and worth the money. I haven't regretted buying it.

Think this amp is early 80s.It has reverb, tremlo, distortion(i've been told it is hopless on them all)and pre-set volume which can all be control(on/off) by footswitch.BUT seperate footswt for each function ie. 4 if you use them all.No real channels as such. sound control has bass/mid/treb and bright knob. Got 2x12 speakers and is 100watt

Good sounding amp. Very clean sounding and can get wide range of sounds. Using the bright aswell you can change sounds from clear ringing back to more mellow jazzy sounds. The distortion is lame so don't get it if you don't have pedals and need distortion. dist/ovdr pedals do sound good through this thing. Reverb is as good as any i've heard. Tremlo is good with intensity and speed knobs you can get from slow and hardly noticeable to a fast stutter. It is 100watt 2x12 and is damn loud. i haven't had it over about five and i can barely hear myself scream over it. Clean sound are quite fender like i reckon. This amp can handle different styles blues/jazz/punk/rock/60s.
But you will need seperate distortion.

I would probly gig with out a back up. It has a few rattles which can be annoying once they start but i've found most of them.(some of it can be coming from the wheels rattling). I haven't had it that long though so i can't be postitive on reliablity.

Don't about customer support. But i got a really good amp i to look at it first. He said they are very reliable if they are working but if you get a broken one bit expensive to fix as they don't make parts anymore.

I like this amp for a combo. I've got a fender deluxe85 (which you'd think would be good for radiohead to use) but the yamaha is heaps better. doesn't break up with volume, easier to control sounds. Also got marshall valvestate 1/2 stack. As far as clean goes yamaha is much brighter and doesn't sound like someone has a mattress in front of the speaker. I mainly got this to jam cos marshall heavy to move but i like the sound. I'm going to sell the fender cos is woeful. If yamaha got stolen i would use the money to buy another yamaha if found a cheap one.

has pretty basic features. it's got 2 inputs and two seperate channels (clean and distorted), but the distortion on mine is screwed (maybe a busted pot, I dunno). it's also got a tremelo that I never use and some knob that says preamp volume that does nothing when I turn it (still haven't figured that one out). all controls footswitchable with lots of cables and a multi-button switch. coolest feature is the accessory outlet in the back. I use it to power my pedal board.

I have two different guitars I use with this amp. one is an ibanez GAX70 that I hot rodded with a pair of dimarzio's (evolution bridge and PAF pro neck) and the other is a stock (but soon to be hot rodded) Ibanez Talman TC420. The amp sounds good with either one but the talman sounds a little warmer because of the stock pickups. I use a BOSS metal zone for distortion (because the distortion on my amp's screwed) and a BOSS EQ pedal. I've also got a few other effects pedals that I use sometimes (DOD compressor/sustainer and DOD stereo chorus) and this amp sounds good with just about anything I put through it. it's almost impossible to get the clean channel to break up on this thing, since it's solid state, but it sounds really great with my pedals. I play hard rock, kinda grungy stuff, but I need good clean sounds as well as thick and crushing distortion. This amp is definitely versitile. I could play just about anything I wanted to with it.

I've been playing for about 6 years and I've got a few other amps, but this one is my main rig right now. It's reliable and sounds good mic'd or just cranked. I'd probably use my bandit 112 as a backup if I were playing a lot, but I doubt if I'd need a backup. I like this amp a lot but I'd like to get a head to use with my beat up old peavey cabinet. let me know if anyone knows where I can get a good deal on an old marshall JCM800 or JCM900 or an old Sunn tube head like a Model T or something
