I just got this amp through a trade. I picked it up because it seemed like a reliable 100w backup amp for gigs in case my tube amps fail me. I brought it home and plugged it into my 2x15. I agree that it sounds really good for clean tones. The reverb is good sounding and powerful enough in my opnion, but I can see how others feel that it might be a bit weak. I also agree that the tremolo is great! That alone increases the value. It has plenty of outs for speakers.
I think the eq controls and bright knob are okay, but not great. You can dial in some convincing 70's tones. Overall the bass is kind of weak and I don't care for the frequency range the mid knob controls. The treble is ok, I usually roll back the treble anyway. The distortion is not a distortion, but more of an overdrive. I think it sounds pretty good for bluesy leads or single note riffy stuff.

I usually use a single channel amp, early 70's Ampeg V4. I play a 69 SG special with p90/HB combo, and a 77 Ibanez LP copy with HBs. My kind of music is fuzzed out riff rock including heavy blues, downtuned stoner stuff, and clean toned psych rock.
This amp is clearly geared for classic rock, pre-80's metal. I wouldn't recommend it for power chords and defintely not for metal of any kind. It takes pedals alright, but not especially great. I bet a person could use pedals to make this amp do what they want because it's a decent amp and great for the price.
I think this amp will do just fine for a backup. I would use it as a main amp if it was all I had or could afford. A useable cheap amp for what I do. Not noisy at all.

I used this amp to power (more like overpower)a 60s era Cordovox rotary cabinet. I did test this with a Marshall 4x12 cabinet before I purchased it and the price was right ($75) so I said "WTF, get it." I brought it home and hooked it up and wasn't that dissapointed with the sound. I had been using a Fender Pro Reverb for about a year and have goten used to the tube sound, so this was somewhat of a change to switch to Solid State.
I was able to get a fairly good approximation to my Fender's clean tone, which is saying alot. I'm still not happy with it overall, I would rather have Fender Head, but I could live with this amp for awhile.
Many people have written about how the "distortion" sucks on this amp. I would have to say yes and no tho that. The distortion does suck for a regular cabinet, but for a rotary it's pretty decent. It adds a nicel growl to the effect and doesn't really muddy up the tone. I think that it was a misnomer to call it distortion. I thought of it more as a "grit knob". The trem was cool but I didn't really have a use for it. Reverb was a little too lite in the loafers. I cranked it and it barely got deep. The tone controls are pretty versatile. The bright knob is somewhat useful.
Basically, this is an average solid state amp. It has too much power to be used as a practice amp, not enough in the tone department to be used as a gigging amp.
I think that if a person who just wanted to go the cheapest route to play guitar, this amp would do it.

looks to me to be early to mid 80's havent had a chance to date it yet. 100w solid state. 2 channels has footswitchable distortion, reverb and tremelo. The distortion is a mess but the reverb is decent, the tremelo though is stellar and totally sold me on the amp it is a dynamic and heartbreaking sound very powerful and rich. if this amp did not have the tremelo i would not have bought it, it has a good clean tone but nothing else that stands out it would receive a 5 for features without the tremelo.

the clean tone is very nice and so is the reverb coupling them with it's excellent tremelo and this amp is great for nice clean sounding indie/math rock. on the flip side the distortion is a total bummer, it just sounds like your amp is broken, in truth it is really distorted, just not the kind of distortion you ever want to listen to.

made in late 70's early 80's i think. good for my styles of music i like punk/rock. got footswitchable 2 channel's very good eq and a parametic eq as well that i haven't found much use for yet but its nice to know its there for when i figure it out. record out as well but i'd just mic it up personally. footswitchable reverb as well( the reverb is amazing). some good extras on it like fat on the gain and bright on the treble.

i use a single coil strat and use the bridge pickup. this suits my taste very good. the in built distortion isn't great but when you want to play some soft overdrive it does that well. i use a boss ds-1 for my distortion anyway and on clean and the distortion on this it sounds great especially with a bit of reverb. not as much noise even my crappy 15watt bag of crap little bit of noise but when i turn of my t.v and computer monitor it makes next to no noise.

i only got this recently and it looks like it has endured so brutal treatment it came with both the output transistors blown to bits but got some new ones put in and its as good as new. if used properly this is a very reliable amp just don't max it out and blow the transistors

i've been playing for 5 years now and i have just put a new cabinet on the yamaha g-100 its a 1 x 14" vox cabinet. looks pretty good. i own a few other amps. my next favourite is a carslbro kickstart 25 in my opinion if you wanna get a small practice amp get that one. it sounds awesome. if my yamaha got stolen or lost i'd be pretty pissed off. i wouldn't get a new one, maybe an old one depends what i find. i like best of all the reverb on it. like least of all that i don't have a footswitch yet to operate it.

This was built like a brick. I bought it used for $300. Used it for a couple years, then someone decided it needed a beer. Yes, a full can of beer.... I didn't know until the next day when unloading the truck. It continued to run just fine. The next week, the drummer told me the beer happened about mif way through, and he figured I knew.
Next it was in a crash. Our trailer frame broke at 70mph... the trailer sides and top flew everywhere. The G100 went over the guardrail, and slid and bounced 300 feet into a ravine. Other than a little case damage, it worked fine.
Lastly, someone stole it. Ten years later I saw it in a music store... with the scratches and dents from the trailer incident. Too bad I never filed a police report.
I normally ran into a Sunn 6X10 cabinet... but the guitar tech wired it wrong one night. I thought hmmm, this is way loud. It turns out it was running into 2 ohms.
One amazing amp... other than cleaning it after the beer incident, it never needed any service.

Solid state amp. Pretty cool layout. I've always liked the cabinet and the knob positions. The extra volume setting is very handy. Vibrato is way cool. Recording out is nice, but could use a level adjustment knob. Separate jacks for foot controlling the amps features blow. I modified mine to use a multi-pin jack. Not a channel switch type amp.
EQ has nice control.

Clean sounds are great. The distortion sucks HARD! The only use for this amp other than clean is as a basic power amp for your rack or pedals. And even then it's not great. While using any of my distortion effects (MP-1, GSP-21, MT-2) if you turn the volume up past 2, it starts to crap out and give unwanted disorted spikes in the sound. These amps were made in the late 70's when solid state amps were just coming into major use, and I believe that this one is a casualty of bad bias in the design, causing major mode switching distortion. Overall bad sound unless you just want to use it as a practice "stack" in your bedroom. The EQ is very nice though. Best control over the curve of a guitar sound I've heard out of your bass, mid, treble, & presence type EQ.

It once had a period where it would all of a sudden start making funny noises and let no guitar sound through. It got past that, somehow, without me doing anything to it. It's been reliable ever since, although the sound is so bad at higher levels that I won't use it if I go play anywhere other than my house.

I think the amp is great for clean and heavy music. The distortion is really crappy sounding but the clean sound is great and for distortion which i use alot i run a korg multi-effects pedal through it. Its a cheap like a $100 peadal but its sounds really good. The amp has a wide selection of EQ
