I bought it brand new in 1986 made in Japan. It has a very great clean sound and the spring reverb is just superb. The spring reverb unit is quite large almost as long as the total width of amp. The reverb unit is completely covered or sealed in plastic cover to protect it from dust. The overall finish of amp is great. It is very well made a feel like a rock. The front control pannel has lot of features with pull-gain volume which boost the mids and the parametric equalizer is just great. There is also a presence control which is again very useful it makes the sound of guitar very bright and crystal clear. The Yamaha made speaker is very nice it has a metallic cone which tends to produce very bright and transparent sound. The amp has got all the necessary back panel accessories like pre amp out, pre amp In, Direct out, external speaker & Ground polarity to eliminate the electrical hiss. It has plastic protective corners though I like their desigh but they are not very durable. The different color knobs of the front panel is very attarative.

This amp produces very nice sounds. The clean channel is a real pleasure to play. The overdrive sound is also good but I only use it at low gain settings. It works perfectly on both type of pickups i.e. humbucking and single coil. It has lot of power output and seems to me more than 50 watt. The clean channel remains clean at high volume but you have to use a compressor to streamline the high peaks which may makes it distort a little bit. This amp is very quiet indeed. It can work equally good in all kind of weathers hot or cold never got overheated because it has a very large heat sink plate located under the power transistors. Solid state wise I will give it full marks.

Oh yes certainly I have been using it for the last 21 years and it never gave me any sort of problem.

I have a very good experience with Yamaha people they are extremely nice people. Once my Yamaha JX 50 amp got defective due to my own fault as I mistakenly put the main plug into the 220 volts while the amp works at 110 volts. So contacted Yamaha people in Japan in 1994 and they sent me the complete service manual by post and afterwards my amp got rectified just like new. Yamaha people are great. Last year I was planning to purchase new Yamaha electric guitars and by chance I found the dealer locator option on their website so I requested them to indicate me their authorized dealer in Pakistan. So within few days they replied my email mentioning the dealer name and adderss in Pakistan. I now have received both the new Yamaha guitars only with their sincere and kind help. I love Yamaha people and their products.

I have been playing for the last 27 years. I have lot of gears. If this amp is got stolen I would certainly buy the same one but as you know that this amp is now discontinued and so I would like to buy their new DG series amp.

Two channels, three band EQ, Parametric EQ, Mid boost, Presence control, and a build in reverb (real tank = nice to kick when turned up). Solid state, and unbreakable (except for the 60 watt speaker, my voice coil soulds slightly bad)

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a imported Jackson Dinky Reverse through a Boss DS-1. Sounds great. Overdrive channel on amp sounds horrible, but usable for volume boost. The amp is full sounding, not scooped, lots of bass. It is rated 50 watts at 8 ohms. Meaning at a 4 ohm load you can push close to 100 watts. Makes a good sounding amp on stage for the price. Sound men as me to turn it down most of the time (without an extension cab!). The clean channel sounds great cranked with the eq relatively flat, high end gets that nice distorted overdriven sound!

Not all that pleased because the overdrive and the reverb could be better, but I'll still give it an 8 cause it rocks with stomp boxes through the clean channel (cranked).

Reliability : 10
SOLID STATE, won't break. Third generation amp with great potometers. Won't get scratchy any time soon. Speaker is either going to need reconing or to be replaced with a celestian g12-100.

Too old... Won't need it!

I've been playing it for almost two years, just as good as the day I got it. If I didn't have much money I'd buy another if it was stolen. If I was rich I'd buy a 3 channel mesa bogie or marshal. I plan to keep it, maybe buy another to run stereo effects or get a nice rack mount preamp to run for it.

Don't know what year it was made. It has 2 channels - Clean and Dirty. It is a 50 watt solid state with 1 12 inch speaker. It has a parametric eq which I really like. It is just a very basic amp, but very versatile. It also came with a footswitch.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this amp with a Route 101 Solimar and a Jackson ps3-t. I play metal, rock and blues. The distortion is very good for blues and rock, not for metal. When the gain goes beyond 5 it really starts to suck. But a little gain gives a great blues tone. The clean channel is very good. If you want to play metal get a Metal Zone or something.

Reliability : 10
I boutght it used and it looks pretty beat up and it is still going. It must be 15 years old. I will probably have to gig without a backup since have no other big amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them

For $175 this is a great amp. that all there is to it

Two Channel with a normal bass/middle/treble plus a parametric EQ. Using the proper footswitch it's a 4 channel amp.But I could not get a hold of the footswitch to control it. Headphone jack that does not turn off the speaker. Speaker that can be disconnect easily. or you can add one. One effect loop. They should have made it two channel with two bass/middle/treble control but a lot of company that make guitar amp do not include this feature.

Sound Quality : 8
No it does not sound like tube. But it's small and loud and this is what I was after. It is really a 50 watts and not a 30 watts with a 80 watts sticker on it (valvestate). With a good distortion pedal it does the job.The bass/middle/treble knob work so when you had bass or treble something happen but remember you are dealing with a 1 X 12" speaker configuration. The distortion on the amp...suck.

Reliability : 10
I do not take care of the amp at all. Sometime I leave it in my car in the winter for a whole day and when I bring it in to use it I turn it on right away and it work.

I inquire about the footswitch for it and it is still available at Yamaha even if this thing is 15 to 20 years old and they had one on stock but for $50.00 US they can keep it.

I have been playing for 20 years. I needed a amp to carry around that was small and loud and this is it. I own a few tube amp. But carrying them to jam session or to very small gig is a thing that I am tired of because they are very heavy in a lot of case you are at the mercy of the soundman so your sound get's smash by them anyway. I would not record with this thing but to carry around for audition, etc.. it is very handy reliable and cheap

I love solid state amps for the club-wedding-party circuit. This was my second G-50, the first one worked well for 6 years, then the reverb unit gave me a few problems. This one (@1986-88?)is a two-channel, 50 watt combo with 1 12" speaker. Shared EQ but with pull mid-boost on each vol. pot, a foot-switchable parmetric EQ and a presence control. Reverb also. Back panel includes speaker and ex. speaker outs, and effects loop, a line out and there is a headphone out on the front panel that does not cut the main speaker. With this layout I could do almost anything I needed to do.

Sound Quality : 8
I used this with a Hamer Sunburst and a Squire Strat and it worked well for both but probably didn't allow the Hamer to sound it's best. It was a good sound and could do a lot of different styles, in fact I was always finding new ones. The reverb was a little dry and lifeless, especially for an Accutronics unit. With no midboost on the clean channel I had plenty of headroom, with the boost on for the overdrive channel it distorted nicely. I needed a stompbox for the heavy, ZZ Top sound though. By switching channels and switching the parametric EQ in and out at the foot switch you have 4 different sounds available from your pedalboard without even using a stompbox.

Reliability : 10
The model III never let me down and this was after 5 or 6 years of steady gigging. The model II had problems with the reverb but this did not happen with this one.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The dealer was very good about the reverb on my earlier one and was great when I traded up. Go with someone you trust! I didn't deal with Yamaha.

Overall Rating : 8
I have been doing this for about 30 years and only sold this because I didn't intend to play clubs anymore - the ears are suffering and would not hold up. If you want a very versatile, underrated amp this is a very good one to try. I was told these were designed by Yamaha but made by Randall - don't know - but they are solid and a very good value. Not a tube amp but a very good solid state amp. Try one if you have the chance.
