Yamaha G50-210

I had this amp given to me by a lady who had it out out the front to throw away. I asked her if I could have it and took it home and plugged it in and was amazed.The sound that come out of it was unreal. I was using a peavey amp for my bass to gig(nothing wrong with the peavey)but I think I will use this one now. The bass using distortion on the amp sounds great playing Metallica

The bass I use is an ashton because I like the feel and the sound (and the price )and I am in a gigging band.We play rock and using this amp it sounds great I had no out of the ordinary sounds with this amp. for an old amp it has some kick *** functions.I have put it through its paces very loud with different settings and it come across very clean. Love the distortion for Metallica on bass

I will gig on it without backup as yamaha is a pretty trusted brand.Worse case scenario if it broke down I would just plug into my 8 channel p.a system,but I trust it

for repairs I am sure I would find someone in Sydney Australia who could fix it

My band in fairly new but we are gigging and I own a 1200w peavey p.a 600w a side with 8 channel input and a 100w peavey bass amp.
If it got stolen or lost I would look for another Yamaha amp.I love the old school look to it, it reminds me of the fender look.I havnt found anything I hate about it yet.I recomend if you want a cool amp for a bass at a good price and you can get one,get it

This amp looks maybe 30 years old.Sounds great for bluesy stuff,my Ibanez semi hollowbody comes out real sweet with reverb 1/2 way and tremello barely on.My Hamer DC kicks ass with distortion all the way on and actual volume controlled with guitar volume.

This sounds like an old fender bassman i had in the seventies but it's solid state. It's not noisy.The distortion is not over the top.If you want pumpkins you'll need extra pedals but this amp is loud as hell!

I can see this amp has been around the block alot but still works.I feel very secure about this rock solid amp

I've been jammin for 35 yrs,keyboards and or guitar.Works great for both.If I found another I would buy it again. I love the vintage good looks and dependability,but it is a little heavy.

Don't know what year but made in Japan. Heaps of knobs and features (makes me feel more manly...) Tremelo, reverb, pre-set volume etc.

This thing sounds amazing. I know the G100s are desirable now but the G50s are completely overlooked. VERY Fenderish sound. Really pushes your tone out of the two gorgeous Japanese speakers. We play indi guitar pop- totally centered around, and the two other guitarists are both part-times, so a good amp is everything to us. I have a Vox Cambridge 30, which I barely touch now (sacrelidge???), although I often double-amp with the G50 and Vox. The sound is clear, crystal and not noisy (unless you move too close to it with your guitar: then it just goes mental). One complaint: don't use it for distortion: it's crap but that's what you expect from a 70/80s SS amp. And it's very, VERY loud. Never turned above 2, even at gigs.

The thing is probably about 30 yrs. It hasn't got a mark on it and it is now my main gigging amp. I use it without a backup with confidence. Warning: HEAVY.

I'm in Australia so you can kiss any convential support goodbye and Yam's website is decidely unhelpful.

I have been playing for 15 yrs. Fender strat/home-made Jazzmaster>Boss OS-2 (dist./o'drive)>Korg AX-1000>Yamaha/Vox. Yamaha consistently comes up with highly credible products that last forever and are reasonably priced (I also own an APX-4A semi-acoustic, a MT-4X recorder, a DJX keyboard etc etc and all have proved Yamaha's worth). If it was stolen, I would buy one of the G100s floating round here.

Got this amp used, they told me it was an early 80's, I've since read that it's a late 70's early 80's model. It's got built in Tremolo, reverb, distortion, brightness, bass, treble controls. It's also got pre-set volume and foot switch sockets to activate the effects and pre-set volume. It has dual inputs, high and low, for more versatility or playing a bass and guitar through it.

The Solid State amp runs @ 50 watts and it's a strong 50 watts. It's got a record out, so you can run it into a power amp.

I'm using it with a fender strat with a humbucker in the bridge position. I play everything from Metallica to Deftones to Stevie Ray Vaughan. This thing sees highs and lows, and I've used a bass with it too. It really comes alive when you crank it and crank the distortion. Before 7/10ths the distortion is weak.

As far as power, I have filled an entire farmhouse with this amp, and I had to use my 20 ft patch cord and play in another room because I thought my ears were going to bleed if I stoof in front of the beast. It's INSANE. Well worth my $200 CDN if you ask me.

I'm giving it an 8 because it really needs a distortion pedal to sound great at lower volumes.

Flawless. I've carted it all over the place, abused it, played two guitars on it at once. I even cranked it a little much with the bass and got the woofers going into full extension and it didn't hurt it. This thing has been and I fully expect it will be, flawless. I don't expect to have to buy another amp for a LONG LONG TIME.

Not needed... thought www.yamaha.com has manuals at their site IIRC.

About 5 years now but I still consider myself a novice. I plan on buying a new Yamaha SG700 to play through this amp and I don't really plan on ever getting a new one. If it breaks, I'll get it fixed but it won't break. If it's stolen I'll hunt down and kill whoever did it.

It was either this or a shitty little 10 watt, single 12" Fender amp that was new for the same price. $200 and I'm happy forever!
