I got this amp brand new in the late 80's or early 90's. The other reviews have pretty much handled the rest of the info on this amp. Over-all it gets the job done. I wish it did have built in reverb, but I use either a vintage Univox spring reverb box or plug my POD into it for reverb.

The amp doesn't sound all that bad on the clean channel. The distortion knob turned up it does start to hum a bit more, I'd rather use a overdrive pedal instead of the distortion channel. But for a little volume boost I just turn the distortion knob on and leave it at "1" or "2". I have had this amp turned all the way up quite a few times and the speaker and cabinet can take the volume. If you have a controlled drummer you can use this for rehearsals, I've used it a couple of times (I end up placing the amp on a stool). Great amp for country and blues. The EQ is OK, it does change the sound some but with it's small speaker you can't get much bass response out of the amp.

This amp is pretty reliable ... I've had mine for over 10 years and it's held up fine. The knobs are a little scratchy now but over-all it's still in working condition. Nice solid and well built cabinet.

Overall a great starter amp. Works great for small rehearsals and recordings (I've used mine for some recordings).

Budokan 10w 1x8" solid state practice amp, with 3 band EQ, headphone jack, distortion pot and volume. Bought new in 1991, a good little practice amp, which had the best clean sound of any in the shop. Always buy an amp for its clean tone, gain is just a pedal away.

Nice, full, round, clean tone, even on full volume. It is used for home practice, as well as for low volume band rehearsals. More useful volume can be had with a clean boost pedal, which is proof of the tone quality. Presently used by my drummer for a vocal PA. Very versatile little amp. The clean tone, by the way, is greatly enhanced by an EQ pedal with the mids scooped (just experiment with the settings).
The distortion is awful, as it is simply generated by a capacitor which overdrives the circuit. Solution: replace the cap with a much lower value. This gives a very mild, slightly muddy overdrive, which is much more pleasing to the ear. The service manual is still available from Yamaha, the circuit is simple and the unit easy to disassemble. A quick job for a technician.

Built like a Sherman tank in Japan/Taiwan. Yamaha doesn't make junk.

Customer support in Australia is excellent. I expected the service manual to be long gone, but was pleasantly surprised when it was in stock and mailed the same day.

An excellent little practice amp with one sound - clean. Versatile enough for guitar, vocal, keyboard. In 1991, there wasn't a lot of choice in little amps. Easy now to find something to replace it with.

This little amp rocks. This monster machine will make your room shake when cranked. You only need a dist pedal and you're all set, the built in distortion sucks, its more like a weak overdrive its no distortion. The 8" speaker will not handle any tuning below standard so everything you play below E will sound like shit because the thing craps out.

This thing will last forever . I've had mine for 6-7 years and It's taken some serious abuse. For example maxing the output of my dist pedal while having the amp volume at 10. The thing sounded like ass but it managed to survive to that. Believe me you can crank this beast, but anything over 5-6 will make the amp sound awful. I personally play the clean channel and run a 505 pedal trough it and it can go up to 7 before starts to fart. Its just enough for a bedroom amp.
The only thing that is not working properly is the mid frecuency knob which is starting to fail. Sometimes it boosts and cuts the mids randomly. Not a big deal considering its 6-7 years old.

Solid State, not sure how old, was a bit rusty and stuff when I got it so it looked pretty bad, but after some TLC, it's pretty cool looking. Has input, distortion, volume, treb, midd, bass, phones and power. Good practice amp.

The sound is okay... bit noisy when the distortion is on, but other than that it's pretty good.... loud enough to annoy the neighbours, but wouldn't really do for a public performace...

It suits my needs for now... it's the bare minimum that I would use... it's reliable, and sounds okay, so would probably buy the same again if available.... would love something way better.... but it'll do for now...
