These amps sound great and it's distortion is based on Tube Screamer with even the irignal chip TS has. But the speakers weren'e any good and let this amp down. I've changed the speaker to Jensen and it's an amiazing amp now that rivals even some tube amps.

I guess late 1970s made? Used here for rock, blues and pop. Suits all but the real overdriven rock as there is no overdrive channel/button. However add a pedal and the amps tone with the 12" speaker allow a superb warm overdrive. Has high and low inputs plus volume with pull gain and master volume. |Bass, mid and treble controls. Headphone socket but no external speaker output. Nice and simple really.. as another reviewer said so easy to dial up the sound you want and then find it again every time. If it were not for the 12" speaker it would get a 7.

Squier standard strat and a Yamaha pacifica... both unmodded. Used for blues, pop and rock. This is the quietest of the three 30W semi-classic amps I own.... really good. The overall character of this amp is a wonderful warm one... more like that many folks associate with valves. This amp sounds great with all music types right up to the point of that ultimate dirty rock riff... then you only need to add a pedal and its warm sound through that 12" speaker sounds quite special. I'm using it with a Session JD10 pedal which has a great overdrive, bass/mid/treble EQ and humbucker emulation.

This amp is probably more than 25yrs old yet it works like the day it was made. Cosmetic condition is very good. I can't see it has been fiddled with so far... and don't see why it would not do another 25yrs.

Support is not expected for an amp that is 25-30yrs old. You're not going to take it to a dealer are you... just the local guy who will be able to do anything this needs. I'm giving it a 7 because with this simplicity you don't really need specialist support.

Not been playing long but know older audio gear well. Have three 30W semi-classic amps of this era... this Yamaha, a HH and a Session Rockette. Also two Session overdrive/humbucker/amp emulator pedals as mentioned above. If this went missing I would try and find another like a shot. I love the fruity sound, classic looks and simplicity. Apart from my usual grumble over no distortion button/channel there is nothing to dislike really.... well except one thing. I love the retro look brown leatherette finish with copper coloured tweedy grille cloth... you might think it looks a bit cheesy!

I play a Guild Bluesbird 90, Fender Telecaster, Gibson Les Paul, acoustic/electric and bass.
I also play through a Roland GR guitar synthesizer at times.
I use it for rehearsals because of its small size.
My main gigging amp is a Marshall tube half stack and a Kendrick tube amp.
This is as close as you can get to a tube sound with an SS amp.
Not a modelling amp, no midi, no DSP.
Perfect for what I use it for.
It is giggable at moderate volumes or mic'ed.
I play jazz, country, blues, classic rock and funk.

I have been playing for 40 years.
Had every amp known to man.
Mostly tube amps.
Not much to compare it with these days.
I love the simplicity, easy to dial in a nice sound and the light weight.
This is one of the few SS amps that has been acceptable in modern music in my opinion.
I like it a lot.

Just picked up this amp in a pawn shop. About all the features you would expect out of a little combo amp. I like the gain control, pull the knob for a boost. Also has basic eq controls and pretty phat sounding reverb. I got it for practicing, but it obviously has more than enough power for playing moderate sized venues. High and low inputs, headphone jack.

I run a couple of dimarzio super distortion humbuckers, but even with single coils, it sounds pretty damned good. Really nice warm tone. I was super surprised. Wouldnt be the best choice for somone looking for super heavy distorion, but thats not me, so i love it. It has a bit of a hum to it, but that is expected of an amp made before me. The reverb sounds pretty phat.

I havent had it long, but i have had no problems with it. It is getting pretty old, but it is cosmetically great, so it has probably been treated really well.

Been playing guitar for 10 years or so. Sounds pretty great. I am quite satisfied. It is louder than my 50 watt yorkville. Not bad considering this is only 40 rms. Sounds way better too.

I'd give it a 10 if it had 2 channels, one for clean and one for distortion. If your one of those guitarists that says real players use the volume controle on your guitar for changing from clean to overdrive you could give it a 10

I bought this amp new as a practice amp over 20 years ago when I joined a band and got tired of carrying my 100 Watt 2x12 amp to and from practice sessions, at the time I was a metal head and didn't care much for the lack of crunch type overdrive. But as I have mellowed in my age I have come to love the tone and sound of this little amp

Over 20 years old and still sounds great. the pots get a little dirty but wanking them back and forth with the power off once every 6 months seems to fix the problem and keeps the amp quiet when adjusting the settings when the amp is on.

unless you need a lot of gain for crucnhy type metal distortion you will do well to grab up one of these amps used if you see one available. I use it more than my Mesa Boogie at home.

I think this amp was made late 70's. Features are basic but all one could ever need -treble, bass, mid, spring reverb, distortion - pull the pot oput and extra distortion. There is no clean channel in this amp. Distortion, or rather fuzz is on all the time (little bit) giving the amp actually a tube sound with enough sweetnes and brake up depending on how you drive it. I think it's about 30W if that.

Incerdibly this amp has a HUGE volume and it must be heard in live situation to believe it. Once I played with a guitarist who had 100W Marshall stack cranked to 7. We all know how lod that is when it comes to Marshall. My little Yamaha was at full crank but it kept up with the Marshall and still had full bodied sound - amazing. Last night we did a gig for 600 people in massive hall, other guitarist played Fender Prosonic tube 60W at volume 5 I was at about 6. Couple of people come up to me asking where is my real amp, they thought I have some big tube amp hidden behind the drumms or something, hehehe.
I am rating the amp 9 - that is while using tube evedrive. Amp on it's on I give 8.

I got this amp for AU$ 150 about US$75 in used music gear shop - dirt cheap. MOst people look at this amp and don't even consider it for practice, because it looks very plain. I needed some cheap small light amp for practice so I gave it a go. Sounded all right so I bought it.
Had a practice with it and was supriced, than I took it to a gig and was supriced even more. Then I sold my Fender Deluxe (reproduction) because I find the little yamaha better than that for giging.

Best amp I've ever played in such small size. How ever there is a trick that I use and that makes thisd amp sound like 70W Marshall valveste, eccept no so horribly thin. I use tube distortion pedal I've build that has 12ax7 (from my Fender deluxe) and tube rectifier (important to have tube rect. for good sound). WIth this setop I play anywhere, with anyone, at any volume and have a great sound. DOn't be fooled by the way it looks. Give this amp a chance. I am a prof. player for 20 years and had many amps which come and went but this Yamaha is still here. That must say something about this amp.

The guy I bought the amp from thought it was about 20 years old. I like to play blues and jazz and this little amp seems to have a sweet sound for those styles. The well-made box is a rugged brown in color with corner protection with the controls on top front and angled up 12" speaker below. The solid state amp has 2 inputs, high and low, pull-gain volume, master volume, three equalizer controls, reverb (mechanical) and headphone output. I use the amp for practice, it has plenty of power (probably 30 watts). It has all the features I need in an amp, but I am curious about some the sound bending stomp that I could add...

I use an Epiphone Special with a couple of open humbuckers, two controls and a three way switch. Works just fine for my blues/jazz interests. I tend to get a little buzz off the amp if I crank up the treble, but this goes away with my left hand on the strings. I also need to replace the a/c plug because someone cut off the ground and this may be contributiong to the buzz. When I got it I fired some contact cleaner into the pots and this cleaned up the scratchy controls. I'm a melow player mostly, so not much distortion yet. Maybe later.

I have to say this amp really cleaned up nicely. It was probably stuck in the back of a closet for a long time. Looks like new, and works like new after a clean-up. I doubt that this amp has had any service. I would say very reliable.

Playing at playing 35 years.. Own a Fribson :). That is, a Hopf guitar that looks like a Gibson neck and head with a Framus body. A couple of other beaters also. If I lost this amp, I would miss it. I don't think I could buy another of that quality at that price. Probably compares with a new CDN$400 amp today.
