Made in Japan '82-'83 (only year of production) Basicaly a SS take on a Boogie 1x12 (see previous reviews for full rundown of the features) Not the "every knob does something else if you pull it" that some amps had in that era, but still a resonable feature set for the time.
External speaker jack would be usefull, but can easly be added.

One "feature" that no one has mentioned, is the "vintage" styling..mine atleast is brown face w/ chocolate tolex & oxblood grille cloth, brass hardware & knob faces..sort of a early '60s Fender vibe...too cool!

Use this with a number of guitars; it just LOVES my '90's Dano u-2 RI for clean sounds, and I have a old PV Patriot with a cheepo ceramic bucker in it that really does the business W/ the boost pulled. It is actualy less impresive with my "good " guitars (MIA Tele, Gibson MM RI), but still usable. It also can do a passable impression of a Polytone W/ a electro acoustic or a jazz box...

The Eq is pretty wide ranging, and the Accutonics 'verb is if anything a tad deep, the boost is good a low levels to fatten up single coils, but inorder to get any thick OD requires a bucker, the "low" input is severly padded, & was probably designed W/ active PU's in mind.

Changing the speaker would be a good idea, the stock unit has a small magnet & is pretty dark and farty. I put a old Rola in that I had salvaged from a blown '70s Kustom combo, and there was a noticable impovement, a serious speaker would be even beter.. However beware that the box is small for a 1x12 and the OEM speaker has a thin rim..it was a bit of work to get the Rola in, and it is possible that some 12's might not fit at all..

Reliability : 10
Yamaha stuff from this era was built like tanks, though the JX series was noticably less robust that the amps that came before. The amp is still way overbuilt, and should beable to take any thing you dish out short of actual abuse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Yamaha is basically out of the amp business..It's possible that a authorized PA repair place, MIGHT beable to help, but really it's probaly not worth the bother...

I have been playing for 20+ years, I was looking for a 1x12 w 'verb combo with a small foot print, that was loud but not TOO loud as so many new amps are, & stumbled across this in a thrift store. Its not a great amp but is a nice impovement from the usual small practice amp (have a old Marshall "Lead 12", that is just too stiff & boxy to be enjoyable on a regular basis ) and can be used for jams and small gigs. I probaly could't find another if I needed to replace it, and would simply use the old PV Backstage Plus ( 30 watt 1x10 combo W/ 'verb) that I picked up recently, as it can be maitained, is rougly the same size and sound, and has more features, still the Yamy is not a bad amp for what I paid & it looks 'groovy"...

High and low inputs. Bass, Mid, Treble. Gain and Master Volume. Reverb. Late 70's Japanes manufacture. Pull pot on Gain knob for boost. Solid state. I gave it a 7 because it does what it should and at 40 watts or so, is plenty loud for practice or small rooms.

Sound Quality : 6
I use a Les Paul Classic and a Tele copy.
Cleans are just that. Very sterile and basic. No noise or hiss.
Boost function gives the sound a little more bite, but is useless if you want a metal sound (this amp just ain't made for metal). A nice fuzzy sort of fat bassy breakup is the best you'll get out of the boost with the gain maxed. Don't bother, unless you're looking for that late 60's retro garage rock sound. I gave it a 6 here cause it is not realistic for most modern players to expect much that they would like from here, but I'm a dinosaur anyway, so this amp suits me fine. I play mostly Allmans/Tucker/Poco style country rock.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank.
I would seriously only worry about dust in the pots.
Any tech worth a hot damn could keep this puppy runnig for decades with no problems.

Got it used, and I would NEVER, EVER deal with some major corporation's faceless customer service. I have two of the best amp guys in the world both within 15 minutes of my house: John at HyWay Music Mart in East Brunswick, NJ and Dennis Kager (Ampeg, Ashdown, Sundown, Pignose)... come on, you KNOW who he is.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I own a Traynor YCV40 (check the reviews - this amp is a KILLER).
I would love another one even if this amp weren't stolen, just to have an extra for buddies to jam on.

My JX35 was made in the late 70's. I bought the amp for $40.00 from a highschool chum of mine when I was 12 years old. I've had it for 19 years! It features a High and Low input, Vol (Pull Gain), Master Vol, Treble, Mid, Bass, and Reverb. No effects loop. Of course, it's a solid state amp.

Sound Quality : 9
It's been used mainly as a home practice amp, however I did use it for a few gigs when I was 14 or 15. It's been hammered with a Gibson Les Paul, a Gibson LP Jr., Telecasters, Strats, an old Charvel strat copy, and many other guitars (i've owned many in the 19 years i've had this amp). The clean sound is clean--not that impressive sounding, but fine for practicing at home. But the distortion on this amp is AMAZING! With a humbucker I can nail the early Van Halen guitar sound. No kidding! My guitar playin' friends freak out when they hear it. I've had the thing for 19 years, and the only reason I've kept this amp is for that distortion/overdrive sound. Yeah, it's a one trick pony but...what an amazing trick!

Reliability : 10
I've replaced all the pots, the input jacks, and the ac cord. The fact that I still own this amp after 19 years is attests to its reliability.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never even bother to call 'em. I think the warranty has expired...

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 19 years. I own way too much gear to list here, but I can say that this little amp is pretty cool. It's served me well.

Basically, read the comments on the JX30. They are practically identical.

Sound Quality : 4
I used and still use this as a practice amp. It was my very first one. It's ok. The reason I had to 'move on' was because I got petals that just sounded horrible on this amp. I first had a BOSS Heavy Metal 2. It sounded pretty crappy. I thought it was jsut the petal, but no, it was the amp. I figured this out when I got a DOD Death Metal petal. It sounded "ok" but not worth how much petals cost this day. THis is what really sucks about this amp.

Reliability : 9
Very sturdy and dependable. A stong box. I wouldn't use it in a gig, but if I had to, I certainly wouldn't worry about it breaking down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no clue.

Overall Rating : 5
I've used it for many years. It still sound exactally the same. That isn't always a good thing. Like I said before, I used different petals, and got a pretty crappy sound. Just plugging the guitar into the amp gives a not-so-great-sound. If you see one for, let's say, 30 bucks, go for it. Other than that, steer clear.
