Had it since it was new. My folks bought it with a Fender Lead II. I stupidly traded the Fender for a Charvel Model 4 when it came out. This stayed for whatever reason and I put it away for a looong time to use other stuff. hung onto it though
I just got it out an plugged in a different Charvel model 4 with one of those plastic smokey amps in front of the amp.
Holy Crap.
It sounds so huge and rich and warm. like an old Marshall stack, I am not high. This is one of the coolest sounds I've ever gotten out of any setup. Pure Massive 70's rock tone at low levels.
the only problem I have is the noise coming out of the gain. I suppose it;s the smokey but not a big deal.
You have to try this. Great sound

I always thought the amp sounded kind of flat after I grew up and moved on to other type of gear. I have fond memories of playing through it though and now that I've found this incredible and unexpected sound I will cherish it forever.
I am not kidding.

Still a champ, first quality amp I owned, a solid state, but has it's own character and sound qualities. I bought it new then and has never let me down, does nothing outstanding but does everything well. Not a Tube Amp but it may surprise you with it's clean and fat settings

I`ll buy this amp late 80`s (600mk = 100 eur), when it was one year old. So...amp was made -81 or -82.
Amp has two channel and headphone jack. I used amp for training, recording, some jam-sessions and few gigs.
In gigs you haven??t easy way changed distr./clean sound, that??s why amp has some limited use on stage.

Clean is little bit thin or weak and not so bright for gigs. For recording and training it works good enough.
Amp has great distrotion and when use with some good pedal (Ibanez tubescream), it has very good sound. I find some recordings quite good distr. sound then back to the 80`s.
Amp does the job on gigs, but then you have use microphone and PA-system. Alone amp is too weak for pop/rock.

Amp was couple years in store and doesn??t work at all, when I try it. But local music store has good worker who repair the amp quite minium cost.
Potentiometer must use electric spray...
But amp has work over twenty years guite well.

I sold amp little time ago. It has good for training and maybe(?) recording, but nowdays you can get much better amp for rec.
Nowdays amp has vintage-model-like and does the job also for little gigs in right kind music.

Features are already covered by others so I'm not going to repeat them. When I got my amp it had a cheap POS speaker (not the original one). I replaced it with a Celestion Vintage30 (16ohm). It works fine even though impedance was doubled... I lost some power but it sounds really good now. It's still loud enough for small jazz gigs.
I give an 8 because there are lots of amps with more feats, but for what I use this amp for it's just perfect.

I use this amp for jazz. I play an Ibanez GB-15 archtop with no fx. The amp gives me a nice full & warm clean sound which is all that I want from it (think George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Mark Whitfield etc). I play regularly at a club where they have a Polytone Minibrute II. Polytone is really fantastic but after changing the speaker I think my Yamaha is even better. A few years ago I played a couple gigs with a blues band and I could get great blues sounds on the lead channel even with the POS speaker. My other amp is a Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special which is ofcourse much better for blues but the Yamaha is surprisingly good. As I said I use the amp only for jazz but with some effects this amp could be used for all styles.

I've had it for 10 years and my father used it before me for at least another ten years. Never had any problems. The original Yamaha speaker was destroyed by "physical abuse". I've had more problems with my Boogies (Mark II and Lonestar Special) which are known for reliability.

I'm 24 and I've been playing as long as I can remember, professionally since 2000. This amp was my first 'real' amp and it was all I had for the first 4 years of my pro career. Somebody said "it looks kind of sad", but I think it looks good... vintage, baby!
Maybe someday I'll change the speaker to an 8ohm version of the V30, but for now I'm happy with it just the way it is.

Purchased amp new in 1980 (or late '70's). Hi and low gain channels, headphone jack. Has good eq +FAT control to give it an amazing jazzy feel. It is a shame it doesn't have a DI out.

Great for all types of sound. The 'Pull' switching on the volume control allows for overdrive, and is very controlable. I have used iot for gigging and recording for the past 25+ years.

Solid state amp with a 12 inch speaker. Two inputs (high and low) and a volume and maste volume control. The volume control has a "pull gain" function. Treble, middle and bass knobs. And a three way knob for adjusting the overall midrange called "fat". A reverb. Simple and all you need

I play blues and jazz, mostly with a clean soft sound. I'm not a fan of tube amps myself, even though I like it when others use them, so I was looking for a solid state amp. This one is good since it allows me to play at very low volume levels with a full, warm sound, thanks to the big speaker.
Naturally I don't know what the distortion sounds like and I don't care. It's probably nothing special. The reverb is good, not amazing but good. I don't use much of it. You can plug a remote in for the reverb and I probably will. The EQ section is effective and the "fat" control is fun.
Excellent practice amp if this is your style of music. Pretty good gig amp too at the volume levels I play at. It's relatively leight weight and you can sit on while you ride the subway during rush hour...
So, but remember that this is a very personal thing, for me this is a great amp so I'll give it a 9. It's not as good sound wise as a Polytone I recently tried but it's so much smaller, cheaper and in so much better shape that I can't compare. Still ,it's not the best sound I've ever heard, but close enough.

It looks kind of sad with it's brown color and all, very early 80s. Not my style. But it sound very good and for what I want to do with it it's the best I could get for the money, no doubt about it. So it's also a lesson not to judge a book by it's cover and really try all of those amps you never thought you'd play thorugh. I've had a small class A tube amp which what is supposedly the "right thing" for someone like me. But the bigger speaker and the smoother volume controls on this one makes it better at sounding like the real thing than the real thing. Stange but true.
