My big Rueben is beautiful and was made before 1980. I do not know the exact year but I know it was before 1980 The serial numver is 00984 which makes me think thatnot many were made before this one. The neck is wide but comfotable. You have to be long armed to hold the guitar in place without getting a shoulder ache. The hardware is by Williams and looks good.

I like the Rueben and I like the sound. strumming is deep and rich. pickups get the sound across too. No high scratchy sound. enjoy the ringing

L-4 Rueben was the large body acoustic with oversize everything. This one is in fair shape and still has the price tag on the case. It was made in the late seventies and was used by a folk group for many years prior to my ownership. I like the light sides and back with the abalone binding and inlay on frets. The Barry Williams bridge is top notch.

The L-4 has deep bass tones and decent mid/hi sound. The guitar will not produce bright highs.

Action is good for a long neck acoustic guitar.

Unique old big body acoustic guitar with deep tone and plenty of pretty abalone trim. I have a collection of guitars. 11 acoustic 6 strings and 5 electric 12 string guitars.

The large Rueben is an Acoustic guitar made in 1977. Rueben made this guitar as a baritone guitar for other instruments to play with. It is almost 4 and a half feet long and you must have long arms to hold this up comfortably. It's 25 gallon bucketlike body is loud and pure sounding. I like the low tones but brilliance is missing. This neck is double bound with fake pearloid and very thick. It has heavy guage .60 set bronze strings and a floating bridge with tailpiece. The unusual design around the sound hole is multicolored with shiney pearloid chips mixed in. The frets are berry and wide. Fingerboard is wide and hard to play. The color is dark walnut stained wood

Strum any open chord and you hear the thing sound off with deep rich, non rinky dink quality. I love the sound. Hate the size.

Plays fair. It could use an overhaul. I need the neck adjusted now. The body is triple braced due to it's size. Go to the finish and see ho hum feature. Nothing great to speak about.

Probably not too durable. It has lots of stress on the long neck.

A&B reps were very helpful when I asked for accessories and owner's manual.

Rueben Bentley and John Ashton are the guys who made A&B guitars. Their work at making acoustic guitars ended in the early eighties. I like this guitar because no one else I have ever seen has one this big.
