Features : 6
nothing fancy but for the money you can't go wrong

Sound : 10
Deep rich tones from the mahogany.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Low action, very easy playable guitar. This had a flaw on the finish and was labeled (USED) because of the blemish, but was still a new guitar with the plastic still on it when I bought it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It seems to be built with good hardware. I hardly ever tune it. Just pick it up and play. The only time it needs to be tunes is after the strings have been changed, and once the new strings are broken in a little it's a set and forget. I had to install a strap button on the neck. So far it's been dependable guitar with no problems

I've been playing about a year and I would buy another one if I can find one like it again. T like this guitar for the price and it's great sound. We also have a 3/4 Fender that my son started out with and it doesn't come close to this guitar.

Okay, the input was my enemy. I used to have to TAPE the lead in as the jack used to just pop out.

I have no idea why.

The sound would obviously change due to that 'feature'. I personally didn't mind as I was into grunge/experimential genres. Basically, that what I still use it for.

When it wasn't plugged in, the accoustic sounds from the steel strings were clear and loud.

Quite a versatile axe!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
woo! The action was very high. I think I was regarded a tough little chick to endure that!
Other people would have a turn and hand it back complaining how hard it is to play.
But hey, most people are used to nylon strings and/or thin necked electrics. This is neither.

Well, this was my first guitar. It was recommended by a friend of my Grandfather, who owned a guitar shop. I really wanted a Martin, but being my first guitar, this is what I got.

Just a plain simple guitar.

Sound : 9
Full sounding highs and lows.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action is really nice for my hand. Plays like butter. Finish is ok but what do you expect for the price.

Reliability/Durability : 7
It's built pretty well for the money. Not a Martin of a Gibson but you don't expect that from this guitar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never need them so I wouldn't know.

Overall Rating : 9
This guitar is a pleasure to play. Smooth easy action, good sound. I play it more then I play my 60's Fender Kingman.
Maybe that's just me but I love it. Unbelieveable for the money.

It is actually an "AW-15 G/BS" model. Or, at least thats what I can make out from the label.

It looks like Abilene was a Samick model from 2000-2002... Don't know much else about it. Indonesian made. It has a mahogany top, it looks solid, and the sides and back are a light tan wood, pear wood maybe? Kind of a silky grain. The top has an antique burst gloss finish on it, with rosewood bridge and fretboard. Mahogany neck. Old, cheapo enclosed tuners, kind of stiff and very hard to restring because they are slotted rather than solid with a hole. Active pickup, under saddle. Not sure if this is original or not. Fat neck. It is a smaller dreadnaugh (not quite the full width of a regular D model, probably closer to 15" than 17" with a full 4" body.

Sound : 4
It has a lot of treble, and mids, and tends to sound muddy at times. The action was set pretty low--so low that I'm still working on getting the 1st E string to play all the way down the neck. All the strings buzz a little.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Action is waaaay low, but I bought it used. Top looks nice, but lots of glue used on the inside, pretty sloppy.

Reliability/Durability : 2
It doesn't seem like this will be a "lifetime" kind of guitar. For one thing, the top just above the bridge looks like it is bending inward. I can make it creak by pulling a little on the soundhole. I doubt I'd use this on a gig without a good backup. The finish seems fairly thick.

This isn't a bad guitar for a first guitar. Especially because I bought it at Goodwill for the case. I have a vintage Guild D-25 with an aftermarked case and this Abilene was in a vintage Guild case! So, I could easily sell this guitar for $75 and have a free case. If it were stolen I'd say, "Oh well." I've been playing guitar for 16 years, and have owned many many many different brands including Guild, Martin, Taylor, Fender, Kay, Washburn, Kawai, Ventura, etc.

I wish this one had more bass, and wasn't as poorly made as it is. It is a really nice looking guitar, and plays easily and with some character. Not bad for $75.

It is a Martin D-15 Clone/Copy. I don't know how old it is but I can't find any thing on the net about it, what does come up for the Abilene AW-15 is not what this one looks like. It has either a Mahogony or Cedar top and Mahogony sides and back. The tuners are enclosed but no brand name on them.

Sound : 10
It sounds great with a rich full sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I got this on used in a pawn shop, when I bought it you could tell it had been played alot because of fret and finger board wear. It was also missing two strings and three of the bridge pins were broken, and it had food/crud on the top and finger board. My buddy with me said why are you buying this thing, but I saw the Diamond in the rough.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It already has seen alot of action judging from the wear on the frets and finger board, but the finish shows very little signs of wear.

This guitar is my second favorite guitar next to my Les Paul. I have been playing since 1974.
