Wow, i can't believe i found this. hard to come by any info about Aim's guitars.I owned one of these -new approx 1977. my parents got it for me as a christmas present from Pearson Music Company in greensboro, n.c. my 1st axe. beautful. maple binded neck, pure butter. and a transparent cherry finish, exquisite.I think the guy above me covered all th specs, and i've never played a gibson sg to compare. theis was a great guitar, tremendous tone, built to last, and quite a looker. the only negatives , tuners sucked. and a bit heavy . i swore i would always have this guitar(it being my 1st) made the mistake of putting it in a rental storage unit(i know, i know) and some piece of fuck stole it. and the rental folks aren't liable even if it were replaceable. wish i could find out who stole it, i'd take his left pinky.

Sound : No Opinion
i used to run it through an Ibenez tube screamer (original) -also stolen- into a small tube ampeg.sustain? hit anote walk away have lunch go back and finish up.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
the finish was absolutely beautiful transparent cherry, the bolt on neck was the best i've ever seen. if i still had it i'd probably replace the tuners, and experiment with replacing the humbuckers, though i say experiment cause i'm thinking i would probably end up with the originals. great sound. and the action, best i've ever played.

Reliability/Durability : 10
i'm sure it will be great at 50 tears. i still have dreams i've seeing mine again-someplace, somewhere

70's lawsuit SG copy with gibson open book headstock shape. likely manufactured by Ibanez. 22 medium frets, mahogony body, maple neck/maple fingerboard, 2 vols-2 tones, 2 hums, like a Gibson SG. Maxon pickups (very good), original tuners replaced by vintage Ibanez (Gotoh) tuners with a star on the back. Excellent build quality. I've owned several Gibson SG's new and used since the 70's and consider myself a good judge of general SGism. This is better than some Gibsons I've had. Really!

I play hard rock, fusion, shred and profressive rock. This guitar suits it well. Sort of feels like a cross between an SG and a well worn Strat due to the vintage maple neck with heavy lacquer. I play through several different tube amps and analog FX. This SG plays and sounds great. Awesome guitar!

30 years old when I got it and still going strong despite some holes in the body and typical dings. Maple neck is solid, holds truss rod repositioning and plays very well. I love the feel of this guitar. Very playable. Although it's a bolt on, it's the best neck joint I've ever seen! Not any fatter than a Gibson SG! Great job! The body is dead-on perfect. Feels exactly like my 93 Gibson SG Standard, down to the contours. The neck is a different animal though. More like a bound strat neck. Action was high when I got it, now it's shredder low, with no buzz at all. I may replace the original frets with jumbo's so I can get more meat under the string. The bridge and tailpiece were badly worn, so I replaced them with an old Gibson Nashville Tune-O-Matic and stop tailpiece which fit perfectly, including the studs! How cool is that for a copy!?! The pickguard is a dead on perfect BWB too.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I may refinish due to the holes, but this guitar has the most awesome SG/Strat vibe. Imagine a bound maple neck on an SG. Very cool idea. Seems as solid as any guitar out there. Dependable. 30 year old original electronics still working like new!

Aims is long gone. I think Chuck Widener of Randall fame had something to do with this import. Just take it to any decent luthier if needed and you're in business.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing since 74, owned everything at one point or another. I have an Ibanez endorsement and I also enjoy Gibson, Fender, vintage Dean and BC Rich guitars. I know great guitars and this is certainly one great guitar! If you come across one. Just buy it. If you're a fan of Strats and SG's, this axe gives you the best of both worlds. I'd like to learn more about Aims. If anyone has info, please write!
