The specs are listed below. I added a Fishman bridge pickup. You can't even tell it's there. I didn't get anything else but the guitar. It has one of those trademark Yairi bridge designs....I think it's very cool and distintive, in a subtle way

Sound : 9
It's a great brilliant sound with medium strings. As soon as I put on anything lighter, it loses it's great full sound. This guitar stands up to anyone's Taylor or Martin...in my opinioin. When recording, I just go direct into the board with some light reverb effect and it sounds pretty good. I also run another track with an Audio Technica mic near the sound hole. I'm still trying to find a way to best capture the guitar's true sound when recording. I may need to get a "Jumbo" style guitar to get the sound I'm really looking for.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great action...I can play it all day. I feel better playing leads on this then I do on my Strat or Gibson ES (OK,I lied...almost as good as the ES). The intonation has always stayed true since the day I bought it...I'm guessing I bought it around summer of 1996.

When I bought it the guitar was in perfect condition. It now has a bit of wear and tear on it...as any respectible guitar should at this age. At first glance it looks like a regular guitar, but look a little deeper and you realize it had some very awesome (though subtle) woodworking and detail to it.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Very durable and has withstood quite a bit of banging around...heck I USE the thing. I write and record with this and, currently, I also play live with it too. I'm looking into another Alvarez w/a cutaway for playing live so I can do a wider range of lead/solo stuff.

I am bringing it into the shop for a small crack that's forming (with the grain) in the headstock, up by the tuners. Not sure what is causing it....I hope everything will be alright with it.

If I realized what this "Yairi" thing was all about I would have baby'd it MUCH more. I just thought I got lucky (sound-wise) with a mid-ranged priced guitar. I didn't realized I was buying a guitar that now sells for twice as much as I paided for it eight years ago!

I'm proud of the fact I bought purely because of the sound and playability...and didn't give into a cheaper model with pick-ups and fancy finishes.

I picked this one out amoungst Martins and Takimainies (Which are pushed quite a bit in this area of NJ since Bruce [ah...loser] plays one) I always get complemented with this guitar. People are always commenting on how well the guitar sounds and how it stands out amonst the other guitars.

1992 Model
I won't bore you with the details. It's the same as everyone elses here. I did add a K&K Western pick-up that's very cool.

Sound : 10
I play alot of folk and alt country stuff but I can also go the finger picking way. The sound blows me away. Rich and full with amazing sustain. I really hadn't heard much about Yiari when I went to the music store to replace my destroyed Guild D-35. Even though the salesguy for some reason kept steering me to Seagulls (must of had a promotion) I kept going back to the Yairi. I went home, did some research and bought it the next day. That was in 1998.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Great low action. No flaws that I could see other than some apparentlittle splatters of white paint or glue on the inside

Reliability/Durability : 9
I tend to play pretty hard. The pick guard has alot of wear. This guitar likes it rough.

My first guitar was a plastic one I got from selling greeting cards in the Cub Scouts. It melted... 37 years later I'm still at it. I have 3 other guitars, a banjo, mandolin, and dulcimer.. Love those stringed things. My favorite feature is the thin neck. Very comfortable.

1990 Yairi Dy52
Solid spruce top
Coral Rosewood sides and Back
Gloss Finish
Yairi Tuners

10-This guitar is Beautiful! Full rich sound, that seems to cover all ends of the sound spectrum. It sounds much better than the Martin D-1 I just got rid of.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I set it up Lefty, and with little neck work it feels perfect. I am having a friend swap the pickguard asap so not to scuff the finish. The action is low and nice since I am primarily a rythmn player, I pick a bit, and its feels great for that. The finish seems durable...this guitars wood grain is gorgeous.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Seems tough, haven't had it long enough to tell...

...I'll soon find out when I attempt to get a lefty pickguard

A beauty for the $$$!

Sound : No Opinion
I just play for my own enjoyment and occasionally jam with the kids and friends. I play all types of music, blues, country and folk mostly. This guitar is great for everything. The neck is slim and action is low like all Yairi's I've played. Great guitar for a player with small-medium hands. The sound is incredibly rich with the Elixir 10-52's I have it set up with. This guitar definitely begs for a wide range on string sizes with a heavy bass. It is very loud and resonant, tends to drown out Martins and Gibsons. (Sorry!) I use a Fishman NEO-D pop in pickup when I want to go electric and I use a little Ibanez Troubador 25 amp, great sounding setup.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The construction of this guitar is absolutely perfect, impeccable. I can't believe that I could afford to purchase an instrument of this quality for what I paid!

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I think that with proper care this could be an heirloom quality instrument like the high end Martins, Taylors and Gibsons.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Bought it on E-bay and have never needed support so I can't give an opinion.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing a Hohner 12 string and a Jap Telecaster (both great guitars) for over 20 years. This is my first six-string acoustic. I've played tons of others over the years and had my sights set on a Taylor 710 or 810 when I had the money. That has now changed, My next guitar will be a Yairi FY 95C, and I'm keeping this one with me forever!

Best "bang for the buck" in acoustic guitars!

Bluegrass style works well with this guitar. Flatpick with a heavy pick.
Fender Accoustasonic - Fullsized
Full-Bright sound with the bone nut and bridge.
I'd like more resonance in the bass end

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Action is tight from the factory. Setup was needed, and will be needed again.
Beautiful Rosewood bookmatched back.
No flaws

I've played semi-professional for the last 12 years, with this guitar for the last 5 with no problems. It comes with me each year to camp out at Winfield and any other festivals I can come across.
The finish is tough, but I've put a couple minor creases in it.

Sounds so good you don't need extra features!

Sound : 9
I play all kinds (with the exception of classical) and it fits in very well. It excels at flat-pick bluegrass with bone inserts at saddle, nut and pins, the resonance is incredible! For performing, I use it with my Fender AccoustaSonic, surroundsound amp with low digital enhancement. When I'm just enjoying the picking experience or with friends in the parking log, I run accoustic. It's mid-tone is very good with rich bass and bright treble to round it out. The only drawback to me is the shape similar to the Gibson, smaller upper bought which requires a firmer hold.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The Factory setup was satisfactory for most playing, however I wanted a little less space and better speed as most flat-pickers do. I had the pickup installed by the luthier at the reseller and also had the bone inserts added. The wood is magnificent and you'll ofter catch me just looking at the guitar. There was one small, hairline crack in the fingerboard up by the soundhole.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Very durable and easy to maintain. Keeps it's tune even with the festival location changes which make the humidity variations a factor for most guitars. The finish is hard as nails. I dropped my car keys on it once and left not even a hint of a scratch.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with the company as I've had no need to.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing Martins, Gibsons, Epiphones, Gallaghers, Washburn's, Hohner's and Aria's since I was in the 5th grade (30 years). I also play mandolin, bass, and 4-string tenor guitar/banjo. If this guitar was lost, I'd buy another Yairi, but probably the DY-61 or DY-62c just for the tonal upgrade you get with Mahagoney. I wish it had the System 600 Electronics now offered with the newer Yairi's.
