I am not sure what year this one was made, but I have owned it for at least 5 years. Solid top, no pickups flamed maple body, mahogany neck rosewood fretboard, transparent pickguard, neck is shaped V-ish, dreadnought style, but with that graphite bridge.

This guitar is nothing short of inspirational. I played absolutely cheap bad guitars prior to buying this one. After buying this and expereiencing tone, I began buying other guitars - the guitar has many voices and personalities, shaped by hand positiono ver the sound hole, fingers versus picks, and strings. Sound can vary from chimes to dark and percussive blues tones.

I don't know how wel the guitar was set up at the factory. You see this one was the victum of a customer that dropped it off the rack at a music store. Thus the neck was broken near the nut and reset by the store techs. They set it up after repair and I got a great deal on a new guitar. Finish is thick and glossy and absolutely beautiful even though at the price I paid for it, I treat it like a beater. It takes abuse. Action is low, though recently during setup, I had to raise the action. Frets are wearing pretty bad now. Small dent or non uniformity in the rosewood fetboard at the first fret. Does not affect playing.

This guitar can be broken. What guitar can't? This guitar can take more than an average amount of daily abuse and could go on the road, but if I were on the road, I would not take this wonderful guitar. I would take a Martin or something that you are supposed to beat the heck out of. Pull this one out for your friends.

I have played for 35 years. I now a stratplus, a deluxe fatstrat, and another USA strat with EMG D. Gilmore style active pickups. I also have an old Kramer. If it were stolen, I would find another DY-70 with pickups. I hate add-on pickups. Also have a POD, a pair of Roland KC500 amps, a Carvin Hotrod X-112, and several effects pedals. When i play the DY-70, it is complete unplugged, and occassionally mic'd.

It is an acoustic...so its not going to be busting features...but this one is great. Solid spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, mahogony neck. Graphite bridge, clear guard, shell binding, and a system 500a pickup, 14 clear frets. These things are great i love yairis.

When i first got this it had dead d'adario strings and it still sounded good. I soon after replaced them with a set of elixer lights and it sounds somewhat like a taylor. The pickup works wonderfuly and has a 3 band graphic eq with a sweepable mid, iv never had it feed back. I currently own a trace elliot 100 wat acoustic amp (4x5 config) and it sounds awesome though it even if loaded down with reverb and delay.

Very low action for an acoustic. The top of the guitar is spruce and has slight flames and a nice hunny color. it looks amazing under lights. The neck has a v shape and a satin finish for even faster playing. I still havent found anything wrong with this guitar, i love it.

The finish looks very thick and durible...i still havent put a dent in it and iv hit it againts sevral tables...on accident of course...but nonetheless. This guitar is awesome live i really like the graphite bridge...hell if i get anywhere they might give me a niki endorcement (if you see the bridge you will know what im talking about).

Completed in 1993 in Gifu, Japan... hand made by Japanese luthier Kazuo Yairi. 20 frets, Solid Spruce top, no electronics, Flamed Maple back and sides, Mahogany neck, natural gloss finish, dreadnought body, graphite bridge, thin neck, Rosewood fretboard.

I love this guitar more than any i've ever owned or played before... more even than the over-praised Martin. It tunes perfectly and stays that way. The unique graphite bridge gives a huge, full sound, but not overpowering if played right. It also takes a beating, as any great acoustic should. And I swear that no two sound alike. I've come across others, both newer and older, and don't feel and sound quite like mine. This is probably because each one is hand made in the style of the old master luthiers... no automation or corners cut here!

Action is a bit high, as many acoustics are... no cause for concern. I'm not such a stickler as to recognize Fit & Finish in any great detail, but everything fits perfectly and know flaws were evident. Though now it's got it's share of nicks and scrapes, all of which make it mine!

This guitar is like Stonehenge, it'll be around for my great great grandchildren. It's sounds better and better as each day passes. The finish seems substantial and the hardware solid. Can I depend on it? Let's just say that if it was a person, it would be my mom!

I've been playing for over 10 years... electrics, acoustics, mandolins, banjo's. If it were lost I'd cry then try to find another. if it were stolen, i'd track the thief down with a couple blood hounds and make the buggers eyes water! i love everything about it and hate nothing about it. i played Martins, Taylors, L'Arrives, and even Lauden in Ireland. nothing sounded quite as nice, especially for the price. retail $1100, marked at $975, walked out with it for $600. maybe because i'm a smooth talker, maybe because Alvarez discontinued the model, but i know i couldn't pull that one off again! the only thing that would be nice on it would be the new Alvarez 600T electronics. only i'm a bit afraid to have it done... i would want the acoustics to change even slightly.

Clear pickguard, little wave cabon bridge, other than that it is an acoustic guitar. it does have amazing woods. flamed maple back and sides extremely tight grained spurce top. I believe it has a koa neck and head stock. tortise shell binding. rose wood fret board. the woods make this guitar. i dont really see it as having a multitude of features but how many acoustics do.

This is a great all around guitar , strong straight neck, hard frets. full rich sound without the muddy loss of highs. Not extra heavy in the low end as some martins are. Clean and clear , clearer than my taylor.

35 years of playing and I wish I had started with quality guitars like these Yairi's. They are a pleasure to play and own I now own 3 of them. Including My favorite acoustic a Yairi Wy-1. As far as I'm concerned nothing that Ive owned, Martin , Taylor, Favilla,Takamine, Gibson can compare to the Yairi's ,,,except for my classical Martin. But thats another class altogether.

This guitar was documented in 94 made in Japan. Mahogany neck, rosewood fret board, solid spruce top, dreadnought body, graphite bridge, and some of the most beautiful flamed maple you've ever seen on the back and sides. It came without eletronics. The finish is what I would call a satin gloss.

It suits my music style which can be anything at any moment. It excells prolebly in a band setting because the maple is bright and lets it cut through without being boomy.

The action was a little high for me when I got it as most guitars are, other than that the wookmanship was that of much more expensive guitars.

Here's where the guitar really starts to shine. Since I got a Martin HD-28 the Yairi has been my knock around guitar. I don't abuse it but I don't baby it like I do my Martin. It has seen some fairly rough treatment and everything is really just now coming alive. The wood is darkening, it has a few dings, but everything is still in good shape. Put it down for a few days, come back and pick it up, still in 440 and the tone is getting better all the time. Yea, I could depend on it. Don't need a backup, it is my backup.

Here is the really good part. I took it to my guitar repair man to install an aftermarket pickup. He didn't want to put a pickup in the graphite pickup because he didn't have any experence with graphite. I insisted so he did it. After about a year the bridge started to crack. I called the repair shop in St. Louis and they said they would replace the bridge but take out the aftermarket pickup. I never sent in my warenty card so it wasn't covered. I sent it to get the bridged fixed expecting to pay. When I got the guitar back 3 weeks later it had a new bridge installed but I couldn't find my pickup parts. Much to my supprise I realized they had instaled it and I didn't even by it from them. They installed the bridge, a new saddle, the pickup and even new strings and did a excellent job at all of it. The ballance on the pickup now is fantastic. These boys are top of the line. I have a whole new respect for Alvarez. You simply can't get and better. Thanks Guys. You do damn good work, above and beyond.

What do I love about it, its a damn good guitar. I don't wish anything about it I don't already have. A good guitar backed up with a good support group. I learned a few lessons with this ordeal. Always buy from a authorised dealer. Fill out and send in your warrenty card. Some people might not be as helpful as Alvarez. Go buy one, and while your get the onboard electrontics. I think its called the System 500. In my opinion there are no better guitars for the money.
