I think this is a 2000 probably new old stock.Dreadnaught Solid spruce top laminated koa back and sides. (Get this,,,, a bookmatched laminated back)Ebony fretboard and bridge. The spruce top has darkened to almost a cedar color.

I play all types of music. Lately have been taking hard core and metal into an acoustic realm. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Harmonics are great on this guitar. Works well banging out the Who's Magic Bus or some very delicate fingerstyle. Really hard to describe the tone. I guess full is the best way. Great bass, the mid is a little muddled but the highs are excellent

Set up well from the factory, but since it is about two years old every goofball in the world has played it. Some glue on the inside but other then that a very well made guitar.

Can't really say yet. Seems very sturdy. Yairi finishes are excellent. I think that has a lot to do with the sound

This is a great guitar. Yairi's are one of the best kept secrets. I own a Martin D18,an Alvarez MD90,and I am purchasing a Garrison G20 12. I really love this guitar. Bummer is no case.I compared it directly to a Guild D50. Pretty close in tones which is odd because the Guild was solid rosewood and the Yairi was laminated. People say solid is better than laminate. Maybe I have an exception, but I can't tell any difference. I don't know the Yairi laminating process but I think he's onto something. This is a great guitar. I highly recommend it. They are a little hard to find, but well worth the hunt

I own a guitar store and I recently set up an account with Alvarez and Yairi. Let me tell you something about Kazou Yairi. This guy kicks the crap out of a lot of the US manufacturers. I picked up a DY84k for myself. It has a solid spruce top with a vintage toner, and Koa (Probably AA grade by the looks) back and sides. It is not a Laquer finish, but he uses the polyester correctly. He applies it VERY thin for excellent wood vibration, so you get a sound that you could swear comes from a nitrocellulose laquer, but you don't pay for it. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, with a dual coupled bridge and AUthentic shell inlays. Machine heads are some of the best I have ever used. Now, here is the killer. How can Yairi make a solid top guitar with a polyester finish sound better than an all solid wood taylor with a nitrocellulose finish. SImple. Yairi is a luthier genious. He knows what to spare and what to apply for an appropriate price range. This is not what I would consider a "Very High end" Yairi, but all of the yairi's are high end. For it's price range, it kills. The neck is perfectly straght, and the action and intonation is %100 perfect.

The sound is very nice. I picked this model because of it's soft and crisp tone. It is a nice opposite to my Larrivee D10. This guitar is not designed to be Power Strummed like the Larrivee is, but it is perfect for a softer style. The problem with a lot of the so called "High end guitars" is that they have a good sound, but are not very responsive to your touch. This is Very touch sensitive, and that's what I love about it.

Perfect workhorse instrument. Before you run out for a martin, taylor, or a gibson, check out a Yairi. You can get a better sound, playabilitly and save some $$$ as well.
Thank Goodness for Kazou Yairi.
