I was lucky enough to score a used Drop Top 7 - thanks to Roy at Tom Anderson and Jeff at Brook Mays - both were extremely pleasant and helpful. According to Roy, there are 14 7's in total and 3 have metallic finishes. I am not too into metallics (I prefer their wood tops), but this finish is excellent and looks great under stage lights. Mine was made in August 2000 and has an H-S-H configuration and is equipped with the Buzz Feiten tuning system.

For a metallic finish, this is real nice.
The setup, frets, fit, and attention to detail were incredible - at least as good as my 7 string Jackson Soloist custom. The satin finish on the back of this neck is just right - the guitar plays like butter. The pickups are nicely matched, and the bridge p'up has a ton of bottom to it, but it still cuts through.
I'm giving it a 9 only because I couldn't find a used one with one of their great wood tops, I prefer a 2 HB or HSS pickup configuration, and because it is only 22 frets. It has nothing to do with the company, except the fact that they chose to discontinue their 7 string line.

I play progressive/power metal. My rig changes all the time, but I currently run through a Boogie MkIIC+ Imbuya 1x12 combo, or an ENGL Savage 120. For effects - a TC Electronic G major. This guitar was bought more as an investment, but it will see some studio use, and has seen one live show. I am just too worried that something will happen to it.
As I mentioned above.. the bridge p'up has a nice bass to it, but it still cuts through. The middle p'up allows for a nice strat type sound, and the neck pickup balances out with the bridge. It allows a nice smooth tone to faster solo passage. You can get any tone out of this beast that you want... from glassy cleans, to growly lows.
The trem does not go out of tune, and the controls are nicely placed. The guitar balances extremely well, and as I mentioned.. the finish and feel of the neck are incredible.
9 just because it is not configured exactly how I like it, though if I was the original owner and placed the order, I'm sure it would be a 10 because I would have ordered exactly what I wanted.

Even being the second owner, and having it go from Texas to New England, the guitar did not need to be tweaked. It stayed stable even through the fall and our colder than usual winter.
Excellent work from the fret dressing, trem set-up, springs, routing, paint... no flaws at all! And the Buzz Feiten system... you can hear the difference in certain chords. Awesome.

This thing is as solid as they come... like I said, the only reason I am being so careful with it, is I'd be unable to replace it, and I bought it as an investment.
I take good care of my gear, but I do play aggressively live. This guitar and finish would hold up to substantial touring, and would be able to be gigged w/out a back-up, unless you break a string.

Roy was extremely helpful in helping me track this down. Very quick response to e-mails ... and this was for a USED, DISCONTINUED guitar. How many other companies would do that?
Also, Jeff at Brook Mays was extremely cool, pleasant and knowledgable.
I haven't had any warranty issues, but based on my previous experience with them, I'm sure the guys at Tom Anderson would be extremely helpful.

I've been playing for 20 yrs (damn I'm getting old), and have owned just about every brand of guitar - Hamer, Kramer, Yamaha, Ibanez, Jackson, Brian Moore, ESP - back when most of those names made REAL high quality instruments. This guitar is easily as well made as my custom shop jackson and my old 80's custom Jacksons. I like the balance, feel, and finish of this better than my Brian Moore C-557, though that is a great guitar as well.
The only thing I wish it has was a nice wood top, as I like the look of Anderson, Brian Moore, and older PRS figured wood tops.
If lost or stolen, I'd hunt the person down and hurt them REAL slow, as I will not be able to replace this - there are only 14 in the world.
