Aslin Dane Jazzking

There aren't a ton of features, but what it has is nice. Yellow-burst finish, single cutaway, two f-holes, with 3-layer black plastic pickguard. The best thing is the fingerboard, which is made of this graphite (won't warp in the heat) stuff. Good tuners, and along with the good quality trapeze tailpiece, keeps the guitar in tune. Two humbuckers, three-position switch, two volume knobs, two tone knobs. The switch is right next to the knobs. Otherwise, close to an ES-175.

The sound rocks. I'm in a 50's-60's rockabilly band, playing old-time country, 60s rock, and newer stuff like Chris Isaak. It's perfect for that. The pickups are really good quality, and with the right amp, makes for a killer sound. Very rich sound. I have no complaints. Sounds just as good as a $2000 Gibson.

My only complaint is the knobs. One of the knobs for the bridge pickup came loose, and now the pickup can be "funny" once in a while. But this can be fixed by tightening up the hex nut keeping the pot in place.

This guitar will stand up to live gigging. I've owned one for several years, and I love it. See above for the only hardware issue. But I would bring this guitar to a gig and not need a backup. Definitely.

I INTONATE THE GUITAR EVERY TIME I CHANGE STRINGS, AND CAN ALWAYS GET IT PERFECT. ALRIGHT, I WORK HARD ON IT. BUT I NEVER AM DISATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. COMES OUT PERFECT EVERY TIME.

I OWN 4 ASIN DANES, AND I MUST ADMIT I DO NOT PLAY THE OTHERS AT ALL. THIS GUITAR IS MY MAIN INSTRUMENT THOUGH. I OWN 2 GUILDS, AND THIS GUITAR OUTPLAYS MY STARFIRE 3. HAS A BIGGER SOUND, WITH MORE FILL. AFTER ALL OF MY 30+ YEARS OF PLAYING GUILDS, I THOUGHT I COULD ONLY ADAPT TO THE SLIN GUILD NECKS, BUT I NOW FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE JAZZ KING NECK THEN GUILDS. I HAVE OWNED THE JAZZ KING NOW FOR OVER 3 YEARS, AND STILL GIG WITH IT EXCLUSIVELY. ALTHOUGH IT SOUNDS PERFECT THROUGH AN AMPLIFIER, IT SOUNDS LIKE A LAMINATE WHEN UNPLUGGED. WHAT DO YOU WAN'T FOR $500. EVERYTING?

Description was made already on this page and the guitar is still a jazz box, plywood one but for the price this is ok.

I play it on a peavey classic , great sound for jazz, soft and round enough for most jazz style and even for fusion.

Don't know about the factory set up, cause I bought it from e-bay (152#)
but the neck is amazing, never played on something like this, so easy to play !
- 10 for the neck and action.
- 5 for the controls (everything is messed up, tone does the volume !) maybe it's not from the factory ?

I gig every week whith it ( bought it a month ago) and it's still ok, looks like it was really well constructed, but you never know whith plywood.

I asked information to the factory (mail) . No answer yet.

Been playing for 25 years , on Gibson, Fender, Washburn, Ibanez, Guild, D'aquisto (this one was my teacher guitar, too bad !)
it's one of the best guitar I ever had, too bad it's plywood, but new Gibson are to.
Love the neck and the sound (guitar is quite pretty to)
Choose that one cause it was looking quite good and the owner thought it was sounding good (ebay is always a challenge ...)

The Aslin Dane Jazz King is modeled on the style of the Gibson ES-175 (same shape, sound holes, pickup configuration, controls, trapeze, and peghead). It has a laminated top, a one piece back, and the fretboard is an ebony-colored, man-made material, that is a dream to play on. The finish is a very high gloss black sunburst. I bought it new, I think, in May 2000 but I wasn't happy with it until I fixed the bridge and put jazz strings on it (see below). The bridge is rosewood and is not fixed to the body, so you have to sweat the intonation every time you change strings.

The strings it came with were the 3 and 3 solid body kind, vice 4 wound and 2 smooth, so I couldn't get the G string to sound in tune. But with the right strings on it there is no problem and the intonation is very close. I use it to accompany myself singing standards (you know, Sinatra-style, pre-Elvis pop and showtunes). The electronics are very quiet and the tone controls give a good range of color. I play it through a Fender Blues Junior tube amp and can make it bright or rich and woody.

The bridge had a very weird shape; the support posts did not come out of the saddle at a 90-deg angle, more like 60, which made it damn near impossible to keep it from tipping over during re-stringing. Moreover the saddle did not fit flush on the body. That and the wrong strings made me think that this guitar wasn't really new, but if that was the stock bridge then I don't know what the factory was thinking! The dealer pleaded ignorance (an E-bay purchase for $350), so I had a luthier fill and redrill the post holes and refit the saddle for $50. What a difference! The action on the man-made fretboard is unbelievably smooth. This guitar is a dream to play. I took a Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis model for a drive yesterday and it is a klunker by comparison; my fingers wouldn't slide cleanly over the frets.

For the most part the finish has held up well, except that the paint near the truss rod cover and nut has chipped off on one side. Also, the nut that holds the jack cylinder in place comes loose far too often for my liking.

I've been playing for more than 30 years and also own a Gibson J-200. My favorite features are the action and the sound, but if I had to do it again I don't think I would buy a guitar with a bridge that is not fixed to the body.

This is a new guitar, made last year in Korea. It is a jazz guitar, patterned after a Gibson ES-175. Full body single cutaway, with 22 frets. The cutaway is deep enough to allow easy access to the uppermost frets.



The body appears to be a three piece laminate, with maple on the outer layers. It has a high gloss sunburst finish. It has 2 humbucking pickups, a three way toggle switch, and volume and tone controls for each pickup.



The bridge is rosewood. It is not a tune-o-matic. The tuners appear to be Schallers, but have no name imprinted on them. Like all jazz guitars, the tailpiece attaches at the heel of the guitar and there is about 4 inches of string between it and the bridge.



It has an adjustable truss rod, with the cover at the peghead like a Gibson.

This is first and foremost a jazz guitar, It also works for rock and blues at low volume, but will feed back if played loud or too close to the amp.



I use a Yamaha G 112 amp from the late 70's.



The guitar is dead silent. No hums, no buzzes, ground noises, or clinky frets. No pops from the toggle switch or noise from the pots.



The tones run the full spectrum (for the humbuckers) from deep bass to as full treble. The tone controls actually work, giveing a vide variety of sounds.



I like all the tones the guitar can make. I've not found a single sound on it I don't like.

The action was perfect right out of the box. The pickups were set up just fine and needed no adjustment whatsoever.



The finish, like the rest of the guitar, was perfect. There was not a single ding on the instrument.



The only thing that was not perfect was the bridge, which needed to be slotted. Other than that, the guitar was flawless when I first received it.

I've only had the guitar 3 months, but it seems like it will hold up forever if it's not abused. The hardware seems secure, the finish seems durable. The strap buttons are tight. I think the guitar is absolutely dependable and I've been using it use it on gigs (without a backup) ever since I got it.

No need to ask for help yet.

I've been playing 36 years. My other guitars are a '61 Les Paul Jr, (SG style) and a 1985 Takemine dreadnaught.



If this guitar was lost or stolen I'd definately buy another. I love everything about this guitar, and I hate nothing. The things I like best about are the workmanship, and the variety of tones it produces.



I uses to own a Gibson ES-175 that I had to sell. I literally cannot tell the difference (other than the toggle switch being located in a different place) between this guitar and that one. The guitar is complete. It needs nothing. It's as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. I'd recommend that anybody interested in this type of guitar check one out.

A Korean model low budget guitar.22 frets,plywood curved top,volume,tone,3-way toggle switch.
Two humbuckers....mystery generic pickups,body is maple(i hope).
neck is maple with pherenol composite fretboard(very slick, kinda like ebony).tobacco sunburst finish,body is ES-175 copy (toggle switch is behind tone and volume controls,neck pickup is close to neck).Wood bridge that rests on guitar (no glue),tailpiece looks nice but rattles alot when played.Tuners are average,but hold tune nicely,neck is just right (kinda like a gibson but doesn't feel as cramped)Jumbo frets i belive,no files needed.

I play Jazz,Fusion,Funk and every thing else under the musical sun.
I expose this guitar to full on improvisational shows at least twice a week,and it never fails to capture the ecxact tone im looking for(except that 80's cheesey spanking single coil tone)but it's ok.
I play through a JCM 900 Marshall amp with a 4-12 cabinet.
i get a wonderful warm clean tone,a Mahavishnuesque lead tone,a Wes Montgomery jazz tone,a straight up Steve Howe birdge pick up solo tone,and a sweet skanking reggae tone in the middle position.Very versitial.

O.K. here's the low down,for me i like my guitars to make a man out of me.So first i get some real strings(13's flat wound)then i jack up the action.It's great to have a guitar that you man handle.Pickups seem fine but will still probably be replaced with somthing better than "Korean Pol Pot" specials in the future.
The curved top is matched fine,it does trouble me however,the ply wood used to make it ( i hope the whole instrument isn't ply wood)if so this guitar deserves a perfect 10.
No real flaws except the rattling tailpiece.
Oh yeah,the others models of Jazz King i played in the store had poorly cut bridges ,when bending, the strings would move off the bridge.

So far this guitar has taken much abuse and frequent use,i'm really not concerned with finish staying or wearing off.How ever the strap buttons are terrible,they must be screwed on every show I play and between sets,i replaced them with locking buttons.
I can depend on this guitar and I dont use a backup.

I never heard of a warranty ,don't care about it anyway.

Ive been playing for 10 years,i own a 335 Gibson,a Fender Srtatocaster,various acoustics ,classicals,a bass,antique Gretcsh banjo circa 1930's? an a mandolin.
If my ASLIN DANE JAZZ KING were lost or stolen i would be very upset,and i would replace it with another low budget guitar most likely another ASLIN DANE but mostly because of the price range compared to a 20 year old jazz box. I love the look of my Jazz King,perhaps I'd change the finish to natural maple instead of the cliche' tobacco burst.If i had my way it would have 24 frets ,better pickups,and the body would be alot bigger,fatter, thicker,and deeper.It feels better than a Gibson,it's hard to explain but feels more friendly...oh yeah one more thing i'd change,no ply wood anywhere on my instrument.

A Korean ES-175 copy of outstanding quality. Here's the major differences to the Gibson:
- solid wood bridge, no metal bridge saddles here
- pickup switch is located behind the electronics
- neck pickup location is right at the neck, not shifted towards the middle, like on the Gibson

It's got all a jazz guitar needs. No more, no less.

We A/B'd it with my friends Gibson ES-175 for about 1 hour through a Polytone amp. Although the guitars didn't sound exactly the same (so wouldn't two Gibsons), we honestly could not tell which one was better.
The Aslin has got it all: it hums (neck PU), it growls (bridge PU), it even twangs (middle). The pickups sound phantastic and have got the 'bell' that one normally expects only from Gibson humbuckers. There are no dead spots on the neck, probably due to the phenolic fingerboard.

After a minor setup (truss rod, bridge height), the action turned out to be the best I have ever encountered.

But here comes the niggle: the pickup switch was mounted upside down and didn't stay very well in one position. The controls for the neck pickup were interchanged, which caused some headscratching ar first. Luckily, I am a electronic guy and could fix both problems myself within 15 minutes. While I was at the controls, I substituted the switch with an original Switchcraft and changed the 0.047uF treble capacitors to 0.015uF, which I think sounds much better at '0' position.
In addition to that, the frets showed some chattermarks which I sanded out with 400 grit sandpaper, followed by 800 and 1200.

However, I have seen some other Jazz Kings which didn't exhibit any of these problems.

This guitar looks mighty solid. The phenolic fretboard promises to be long-lasting and highly resistant against warping. Right now, I cannot see any reason why it should give up the ghost without warning.

If you are into YES music, put some roundwound strings on it and you have got the ultimate poor man's Steve Howe guitar!! If you want to play jazz, switch to roundwounds and off you go.

guitar is great for jazz.its got a fat tone.doesnt get any sounds u dont want. overtones in guitar are weird to hear at first cause i wasnt use to hearin them!
sides are carved wood, so it gets minimal feedback and fat tones

action was lowered as low as it would go. i play alot of metal, and have a light touch so i like it REALLY LOW.
it was set just like i told them to.pickups sound even, no string is louder than the other.
the neck is AMAZING. its fast and comfortable. low action is very important and the superphenol neck lets the strings go real low.

definitely would use it on gigs. its got the sound i want, and i dint pay alot for it, so im not worried to bang it up a couple of times.
its not as not to play with it. beautiful instrument as a matter of fact. great black finish with chrome hardware.

the guys Beranard Pizzitola and Dave Burrs are great. very nice and told me alot about all guitars. explained everything and i knew what i was gonna get and what to expect. very helpful.
dont know about warranty, all i know is that i like the guitar and bought it right there. didnt even care bout the warranty. when i have trouble with it, i just give it to them and they take care of it, no questions asked.

PLAYED FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS. THE GUITAR IS GREAT. I OWN JACKSON CUSTOM SHOP GUITARS, GIBSONS, CARVIN CUSTOM SHOP GUITARS,ETC FROM $900-3000. THIS IS MY FAVORITE GUITAR RIGHT NOW. THE NECK IS INCREDIBLE AND TO ME THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.NEVER THOUGHT ID BUY A JAZZBOX, BUT I WANTED ONE FOR MY STUDIES IN JAZZ. CHECKED OUT GIBSONS AND EPIPHONES, AND AFTER PLAYIN ASLIN DANE, I BOUGHT IT ON THE SPOT.
JUST TRY THE NECK, YOULL FALL IN LOVE WITH IT.
