I play rock and blues mostly. This gtr has that sound. sounds amazing thru my boogie, clean and distorted. Sustain... Thick sounds very full. Fairly versatile ax.cleans up pretty well without losing too much treb when volume is rolled back. sounds just like a gibby

Ben playing 20 years mostly strats but this has made me a huge les paul lover and won't be without one again. The price you pay for such tone is weight which I don't like and of course the single cut makes it harder to play up high on the neck. Those things are what kept me from a LP for years but now I just bring my strat and maybe my ibanez rg550 and can cover just about anything I need. My love of Made in Japan guitars grows with this fine instrument. Definate pride in workmanship here. Great guitar. Now I am hooked, gonna have to get a Tokai Love Rock

Burny goldtop set neck, with fenandes sustainer neck pickup and the vh1 bridge pickup. The headstock seemed a little narrow. Narrower then a gibson headstock even though it was supposed to simulate Gibby open book headstock. Overall a solid guitar well built with mahogany

Ok here is where i differ with most other reviewers on here who appear to be japanese guitar marks that claim these jap lp's sound as good or better then a gibson. In my opinion they dont sound as good as a gibson and i'll even venture to say that they dont sound better then an epiphone.
I compared the burny to the epiphone i had and the conclusion i came to is although the burny had a strong tone, the sound lacked depth. It was loud but flat as a board. The epi on the other hand sounded rich and more guitar like then the burny.
Although the Burny looks like a les paul it really isnt on the same level as a Gibson. You all cant expect that an immitation can sound as good as the real thing. People need to appreciate the research and development Gibson puts into their guitar where are pouring in millions to create its dinstinct tone. Quit thinking that these cheap jap operations can in someway do a better job. Gibson's are priced in the thousands for a reason and the biggest label artist play them.

As i said youre better off buying an epiphone then faking a gibson. The sound of these things arent as good and youre just overpaying for a GIbson appearance and not the tone.

Finish is black. This guitar is a burny/Fernandes les paul law suit guitar.Hardware is gold finish with tune-o matic tailpiece. 3VH1 picups also in gold.My guess is that it is a late 70's early eighties model as there is no serial no on back of neck.the frets are finished in true craftsman style and are bound beautifully along the neck.the body is mahogany 1 piece and neck is also mahogany with ebony fingerboard.standard 22 frets with gibson trapeze inlays.
It is in mint condition with no scratches , dents or any flaws be it paint finish ,hardware or other.
It came in the original Les paul style hardcase with the shimokura gakki company badge still intact and in mint condition.

This axe suits my music styles as I play anything from metallica to blues.Im currently in a working band and this guitar is an absolute wonder.I'm currently using a number of amps ..a laney VH100r with quad box , a Line 6 Flextone head and quad and also a Hughes and kettner combo and this guitar has beautiful clean tone reminiscent of the zepplin/page sounds and loads more.It can be as clean and subtle or as dirty as you like.i dont use any distortion pedals but I do use the amp modeler in the line six or the overdrives in the laney.i cannot fault this guitar in any way shape or form..i have owned many gibson Les pauls and they were no different in playability, sound and quality. the most obvious difference was the price tag !!!!!

Finish is as good as it gets either on a Burny or a gibson.I have replaced the strap buttons with schaller lockers ( for obvious safety raesons) i dont want to drop this gem of a guitar ever!!!

I also own a Schecter Pt series and it is istelf a masterpiece..

This is a pretty early Les Paul Standart copy made in Japan, I believe it was made in 1976. The headstock says "Les Paul model" (not "Super Grade" like the newer ones) making it a FLG model. It has a beautiful plain-top Tobacco Sunburst finish which has lightly faded. The top is made of two pieces of 1" thick maple (center seamed), the body consists of 3 pieces of mahogany. The medium neck is one-piece mahogany with original Grover tuners, 22 frets. The binding has nicely aged, apart from this, the guitar is in top condition.
I replaced the stock humbuckers (pre Vh-1s) for some sweet Seymour Duncan Antiquities, put in Mallory caps and changed the tailpiece to a relic aluminium lightweight.
Sound
:10
I play blues and prog-rock with this guitar through a Traynor all-tube amp. With these modifications, the guitar is a really sweet player. With stock pickups, the sound was quite dark and muddy, suppressing all efforts in dynamic playing. Now it has the tone I was looking for years and I am really content. Both pickups sound quite differently though well balanced in volume.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar was fairly set up, the first thing I did was putting on new strings and adjusting the tune-o-matic. the frets still have lot of live and show only little wear

I've been playing for 7 years by now... I own a fender Strat, a Hohner Les Paul custom set neck, a vintage ;) 1976 Epiphone Et-290 and a Ibanez Artcore semihollow. My Burny is the favourite guitar amongst them. If it were stolen, I'd go for another japanese copy (Tokai, Burny, Greco, Orville), all japanese guitars I've seen and played were awesome in tone and craftsmanship.

Les Paul Standard copy, i think made in japan in the late 80s/early 90s (but i do not know for sure)
Two passive paf-like humbuckers with chrome covers, usual 4 LP controls.
See thru cherry sunburst finish. Chrome hardware, good kluson-type tuners, rosewood fretboard,22 slim frets, trapez inlays.
Set mahagony neck, mahagony body (can't clearly see wether 1 peace or 3 pieces) with 2 piece flame maple top.
Heavy weight (abaout 4.5 kilos).
All Les Paul standard features, plus treble boost capacitors, therefor turning down volume doesn't kill trebles.
Controls still work very fine.
With a switch for coil split, the Burny Super Grade would deserve 11, but it doesn't have this feature, so "only" 10 points. ;-)
It i used, but looks almost like new.
Sound
:10
I have no certain style, i play anything i am able to, from Beatles via ZZ top via Green Day to Metallica. The Super Grade suits to all of these styles.
I play it with a Engl valve amp or a H&K Metal Master (tupe pre-, solid state power amp). And the Burny burns, sings, whispers, screams and simply rocks. I usually use no effects (i think a god tone doesn't require effects).
The sound is very balanced. It is bright, but not too much. It has enough mids and basses, but sounds never too fat. It has s slight peak in in the upper mids, but really just a slight peak. THe sustain is extremely good, the attack is good, it reacts fine to what the player plays. Very fine. The artifical harmonics you can produce with the Burny Paula are damned good, even dry without amp. Warm, sweet and yet biting.
The variety of sounds is good, like with each good Les Paul. From bright sounds to very deep, warm Jazz sounds (that never sound muddy)anything is possible. From harder rock/metal to soft jazz almost anythingsounds great withe the Super Grade.
the pickups (VH-1) sound amazing. A litte more output than pafs, but not too much output. They are balanced but rocking and singing.
Dislikes? I dont have any. But i can name two things that could be better: the pickups sound a little equal (not the same, but difference could be larger), therefor it doesn'*t offer the sound variety ofa Paula with Duncan SH4/SH2 e.g. .
Second thing: bass could be slightly fatter, especially on the low e-string. But this two points are very small poinst, as i saidbefore.
All in all the Burny deserves a 9.5. Not perfect sounding (that would be a 11), but rather close.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Action is fine. No stamp action, but very good action.
The finish looks rather good, but it is not 100% flawless. Therefor 8.5 Points.
The neck feels really good. I usually prefer fatter necks, but the Burnys neck is fun to play.

It more than 10 years old, and anything works fine and lloks fine.

i am convinced you won't get better stuff for that money.

ill pass on this one cause we all know what a les paul is.its made just like the so called real one, almost to the t.sustainer system lets hold a note(notes) forever and thats a real novelty.however the the fernandes sustainer system effects the tone of the pickups when engaged, not alot but if your playing at low volumes it can be a little disturbing.
Sound
:8
this is a sustainer model(fernandes)so the pickup configuration is different than the normal model.i have to say they do sound good,i have many so callesd real pauls and i will say this one right up there!hot rod deville or a super reverb with either keeley modded blues driver or tube screamers...sounds great!!!the sustainer circuit is a great thing to have but the key is learning how to play it...less notes, more feel.i love the fact that i could buy 4 of these instead of one gibson and the bottom line is i dont see or hear a major diff in sound and playability.quality is very high just as good as any american made gibson.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
fit and finish is top notch for the price point here.the japanese take alot of pride in there work and it shows.the wood, tuners, saddles and all the hardware and wiring are great.i set to my liking but it was just about dead on when i got it.as a matter of fact i actually had to raise the action it was very low.i also put heaver strings too.
Reliability/Durability
:10
this guitar will last forever if kept right.its a big thick hunk of mohogany, solid hardware and the finish is real nice.there is a reason why gibby wont let these in to the country.they claim the early burnys of the 80s are equal if not better than gibson custom shop models...and i see why.

2005 Super Grade Les Paul Standard, Made in Japan
Mahogany body, maple top with a razor-thin flame (maple?) veneer. 1960's style neck, aged/faded cherry. Real nickel (not chrome) plated bridge and tailpiece. Kluson knock-off tuners. Standard Les Paul pickup and controls configuration.
Sound
:9
With the original Gotoh pickups, sound was shrill, high-midrange, little shimmer and no warmth, but the wood sounded great, unplugged, so pickups, control knobs were replaced.
Guitar now has Dimarzio Classic PAFs, which I was wary of at first, but they've got a very full-range, dynamic response, organic sound with great wood tones AND high end shimmer, and no muddiness or annoying shrill tones. Regardless of the low quality of the original pickups (and control knobs), the guitar gets high marks. I just don't find many stock pickups (even on higher cost guitars) that are that great - a replacement is usually a given.
Very pleasing sounding guitar for two bands I work with: One a hard driving, party rock & motown band, another a high-end rock, blues, funk, jazz band. The amps I use this guitar with are a '67 Fender Vibrolux Reverb with 2 10" ceramic Jensen speakers, a '93 Fender Blues Deluxe with a Celestion V30 speaker, and a 2005 Fender tweed Blues Jr (12" Jensen). Sounds great with all three. Effects are primarily a TS808 Tube Screamer and the amp's reverb.
The guitar has a killer tone -

I owned an early 90's Gibson Les Paul, and this guitar has much better feel, fit and finish. As flawless as a PRS, but a much richer sounding platform. Fret work is impressive, bridge saddles and nut perfectly routed. Also, the flame finish is beautiful.
Reliability/Durability

No reason why it shouldn't be as reliable as any Gibson. I've already been gigging with it in some pretty extreme conditions. Solid finish, good quality wood, constructed to last.

Overall rating is the highest. I've been playing 35+ years and have owned Fenders, Gibsons, Epiphones and PRSs. This is a great guitar for all kinds of styles. Really nice for slide-blues, rock, jazz, fusion, blues, r&b, you name it. Does a great Duane Allman, neck position impression, likewise Dickie Betts in the middle position. If it were lost or stolen, you bet I'd replace it.

Burny Les Paul replica, aged cherry sunburst, new (that's what the dealer said), exact copy of the original Gibson specs, so my German dealer advertised it as private stock because otherwise he could get into trouble.Lawsuit-models, you know ... it's got a two-piece mahogany body back and a bookmatched flamed maple laminate on a solid maple top, neck is one-piece mahogany with rosewood fingerboard - I had the dealer age it so that the cherry sunburst now looks really great, like a 2000 Dollar Gibson reissue, I didn't like that new, gaudy finish, didn't look like rock'n roll to me ...:)changed the original Gotoh VH-1 PUs (also used in most Tokais) to Seymour Duncan PAFs for more warmth and a more transparent,"open" sound ,payed 1200 bucks/1100 Euro incl. the aging and the Duncans, but without case

Having been a Fender-Player all my life, now I wonder why I didn't go and buy a Les Paul before. There're just a few sounds a Fender will never cover, no matter how much you might customize it. That, of course,is commonplace. Didn't want to spend too much money, like 2000 for a Gibson, so tried this one out after playing Tokais at my local store and not liking them,, and yeah, it really sounds like a Gibson, but much cheaper. It's got the classic feel to it, the sound you would expect, the craftmanship is excellent. Great player, creamy tones as well as rock'n roll sounds in the vein of Angus Young, Slash,Free. Unfortunately it's a quite unknown brand over here in Europe, so it will be hard to buy a second one - but I would do it again, if I could. Great!

I play this through a Hughes & Kettner Duotone Combo, sometimes with an additional 2x12 cabinet. Effects are a Danelectro Dan-Echo, a HAO Rumble Mod, a T-rex Tremolo and compressor and a Georg Dennis-wah pedal. I've been playing for 20 years now, 8 years on the road with a professional oldie-band. Doing a lot of recording at home in my little studio. Other electric guitars include a custom-made Strat and Tele by a German luthier and a Tom Anderson drop Top Classic. Momentarily I let them all rot because of the fun I have with the Burny... it makes me write songs, that is about the best I can say about a guitar.
If you come across one, try it. If you're looking for an (old) Tokai, take this into consideration, too. This Burny is a real match for an old Tokai, in fact, in the 80's they shared the same factory. And it's certainly much better than the new (Korea) Tokais I've played at local stores.

I play blues, Led Zep stuffs, and KISS. So blues, too Hard rock this guitars got it all! I'm a strat man, but a Les Puals sound is something I can't live without! A rich full sound, dead on Paul! With the bridge pup I can get it to sound just like Jimmy Page with ease, but I also could come very close with my strat, so I guess that it's my playing style. It sounds blusey with overdrive on it in the Neck pickup. I play all my guitars through either a Fender Twin or Vox Cabridge 30. I use a BOSS Blues Driver and Vox Wah those are my only effects. Amazing tone and sound for a nice price!

I dunno how it was set up from the factory. I bought it used. It was "OK" when I got it, but it's getting set up as I type this so it should play like a dream when I have gotten it back! Like I said in Features a one pice Maple top BEUTIFUL FLAME! Two-pice mahagany back. Can bareley tell it two-pieces it. Looks better than most Pauls I've seen where it looks like they have may 4 pices in the back! Body binding it painted on and there was a little splat on the neck where the neck meats the body. The pickups are awesome sounding. THEY ARE NOT WAXPOTTED! Sqeals, and not feedback, are common at hight volumes and high gain. Overall excelent!

I got it last Wendsday. I've gigged with it already! Finish is nice, Poly I think insted of Nitro. Strap buttons are nice, but too small unlike my strat's. Hardware wil last 20yrs! maybe outlive me! I play all my guitars through either a Fender Twin or Vox Cabridge 30.I use a BOSS Blues Dirver and Vox Wah those are my only effects. When compared to my 57' Strat it's not as good. I've played Custom Shop Strats and Pauls and they never play as good as my strat, but this one here is pretty close! If some one stole I would be angry and would track'em down! Overall an excellent guitar I would not give it up for any Gibson. Unless it was an Early 70's Deluxe or a famous guitar player's guitar, you get the point! If you're considering a 'Lawsuit' guitar get either a Burny or Tokai! I prefer Burny! So just snatch on of theses up and enjoy it!
