Made in Japan early 90's Les Paul Standard style :

Mahogany body with solid maple cap/lightly flamed maple veneer (no photo flame), chunky mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, 2 humbuckers, 3 way switch, individual tone and volume controls for each pickup, cream binding, etc... advertised by my seller as a "Slash" model, probably because of the stock open-coil VH-1 pickups.
Finish is a nice honeyburst poly.
This model's headstock only has the Burny logo and no "Les Paul" type spaghetti logo.

There's a bit of a story behind this guitar :
It was sold to me for $400 + shipping = $520, but it arrived in pieces! Apparently, the headstock got totally crushed by something huge and heavy (a refrigerator or an elephant perhaps) during its trip from Japan. Not a pretty sight.
I got my money back from the seller who collected the insurance and he told me to keep the guitar, as it was now worthless and it would cost him too much money to have it shipped back to him.
I wanted to have it professionally repaired by a luthier, but the guy I showed it to told me that it was a lost cause and I should throw it away... so I figured I'd try to fix it myself.

To make a long story short, I spent many, many hours and used a LOT of armwork making and glueing a new headstock for the guitar, which I fitted with Grover tuners and, while I was at it, replaced the stock VH1 pickups with a Duncan Sh5 bridge and SH1 neck pickups I still had laying around the house.
(This mod was actually not necessary, as I later put the VH1s in another guitar and I can say that they are quite excellent!).

So my Burny isn't exactly stock, but it's not my fault!

Rating's a 9 as this guitar doesn't have "tons of features" but it's a Les Paul, gosh darn it, so who cares!

Sound : 10
I play through a Trace Elliot Speed Twin 50W tube half-stack.
I got my brother's 2002 Gibson LP standard and spend an evening comparing the two with a buddy.
Both had nice Les Paul tones that sustained for days. The Burny was more of a vintage creamy style while the Gibson had a more agressive sound with a lot of bite. The Gibson's Burstbuckers weren't as harsh as other Pauls I've played with the older 498T-490R configuration, but it wasn't vintage PAF either. The Burny was, though.

It's kind of hard comparing the two as neither was better or worse than the other. They were simply different. In terms of playability, the Gibson had a much slimmer neck, but I have fat hands, so I prefer a fat neck!
Most people like Gibson's nitro finish better than the "plastic" japanese poly, but I have to admit I like the poly better. The neck doesn't feel as sticky and it's much more durable.

Bottom line is that it sounds and plays as it should for a Les Paul.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar had no flaws (well... except that it had no head). Some minor details were actually better made than on my brother's gibson, like the inlay work.
Other than that, the guitar was used and over 15 years old, with absolutely no fretwear, which is a good sign that it was built solid.
I actually have more trust in the "made in Japan" tag than the "made in USA" one. The japanese really know how to make a quality guitar and pay close attention to detail.

Rating's 8 because I never saw what it was like brand new.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Now that it has a new head, it is solid. I have no fear!

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's a 16 year old guitar from a faraway land. I don't think there's any customer support that applies here!

Overall Rating : 10
If it were stolen or lost, I would buy another.
In fact, I've already bought another! These guitars are fantastic value for money.
Go get one (but try to have it shipped to you in a hardshell case)!

Made in the 80's in Japan. Around 9 lbs. 22 medium frets. Laminated thin flame maple over thick maple cap over 1 piece mahogany body. 1 piece mahogany neck too. Dark rosewood fretboard. Regular (not long) neck tenon. All hardware and electronics are stock. Standard les paul electronics configuration (2 vol, 2 tone, 3 pos switch). 2 Burny VH-1 pickups. Tune-o-matic bridge. 24.75" scale with medium thick to thick profile. The neck is kinda thick, but smooth and fast at the same time. My particular guitar is dark honeyburst. Basically just like a les paul.

Oh great God in Heaven!!! It's Alive!!! Beats newer Gibson LP Classics and Standards hands down. I think it can hold up or beat a Custom 22 with Dragon II's (IMHO, and yes, i've tried and compared all of these guitars). When I got the guitar, I was gonna replace the hardware, pickups, and electronics. I'm not so sure I wanna do that now. The stock pickups have this 3D quality. They're more bassy and midrangy, with a smooth top end... just like the guitar. It sustains like crazy, and just sounds so smooth. Nails Slash's November Rain tone... STOCK!

I play this guitar primarily for church, and some of the sound styles I use are "borrowed" from U2, Foo Fighters, Creed, Steve Vai, Slash (during G&R), Stevie Ray Vaughan and several other bands I can't think of. I also do lots of Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes, Lakewood, Mercy Me, and even more artists/groups that I can't think of right now. This guitar can't do SRV to accurately, but its not supposed to, cuz it aint a strat! It has great full and complex sounds, and it can cover just about every other style I need it to.

I'm currently not using any tube gear though. This guitar goes either through a Line6 Pod or Spider 2x12. Haven't used it with any of my effects yet, but i'm sure there will be no problems. I normally use a Hamer Daytona (strat) with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 and JB jr pickups. I can't really compare. When I need SRV... Daytona. When I need rawk, BURNY BABY!!!! Can't wait to mate it with an AC 30 or Bad Cat... or maybe even a Bogner Extacy.

Got it used from Japan. It was in great condition for a 15-25 year old guitar. Plays great. Low action. Fast thick neck. I'm told it plays and sounds more like an original 59' paul than any other copy. No flaws whatsoever. The binding on the neck even came up to match the frets. Amazing quality for such an inexpensive guitar.

This sucker is pretty solid. It can handle church use for sure. The finish is still glossy with no imperfections. Amazing.

I've been playing for about 7 years now. I currently own a Hamer Daytona, the Burny, a Taylor K10, Hirade H-8, Washburn RS-10V, and an old Yamaha Classical. I run them through a Pod 2.0 through a Crate keyboard amp with a 15" speaker. For effects, I use a Fulldrive, Memory Man, DD-5, and Boomerang looper. I used to have a large rig, but sold it for portability sake. I'm sure to get a tube amp again soon.

I think if this were stolen or broken, I would castrate the guy responsible. If it were a girl, I'd shred her credit cards LOL!!!

Then, i'd scavenge through ebay to find another one.
