CMI Les Paul custom copy, made in Japan, probably around 1976. Made in the Fuji Gen Gakki factory (AKA Ibanez), for Cleartone Musical Instruments (AKA Marshall, as in Marshall amps).
Beautiful copy of a Les Paul Custom, cherry sunburst, with a set in neck, bump back, open book headstock, gold hardware, striped binding front & rear of the body. Mahogany neck and body, with a maple top.
Tunamatic bridge with two humbuckers, schaller tuners. Two volumes, Two tones, 3 way toggle.

The pickups in the guitar when I bought it were awful, cheap Kay-type pickups. They may not have been the originals. These have now been replaced with PAF type pickups, and the guitar now rocks, jazzes and jangles like a real Les Paul. It's all in the wood!
(I play through all valve amps by Laney and Fender, Boss super overdrive, Big muff)
Old pickups = 2
New pickups = 8
Action, Fit, & Finish

Guitar had recently been re-fretted, so the setup and action were superb. Pickups and hardware were nicely worn. The back and top of the body had a touch of belt buckle rash, on the wood coloured areas, some minor varnish dings, inlay chipped on the headstock.
Reliability/Durability

Les Pauls are rock solid apart from the headstock/neck joint, which is a weak point, liable to snap when dropped. No guitar throwing histrionics then. Bugger!
