Ordered 6/25/2001 and received 9/4/2001
red cedar top / mahogany back and sides / clear satin matte finish / abalone block neck inlays / black Sperzel tuners and black straplocks / nice tolex covered black 'suitcase' case.
All other specs are factory default.
Would have liked some binding on the headstock and neck but Carvin does not offer these options.

Unplugged the sound is adequate but with the Fishman Perfix Pro the sound rivals any $2000 - $3000 high end acoustic I have played.
The sound overall is bright but you can shape the output effectively with the onboard EQ.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action is outstanding for an acoustic being 3/32" at the 21st fret; it plays like an electric.
The guitar came from the factory with only one flaw, a small scuff mark on the edge of the fingerboard near the nut. Otherwise flawless and beautiful.

Unknown but looks and feels like rugged construction; the finish seems adequately thick enough to not wear off prematurely since the guitar has no pick guard.

Most of the Carvin sales reps are good but this one I got was miserable. When I had questions he would not return phone calls or email messages. His initials are EF. Finally a new guy named Albert took over the order and he was very helpful.

Very good quality instrument with excellent amplified tone. It is a thinline so unplugged it is not loud but by the same token it is very comfortable to play/wear with good balance.
Been playing for 40+ years; played a lot of guitars; this one is built specifically for the stage and that's what i use it for; not well suited for playing in your living room.

My Ac is 2001 with these options: mahagony body, AAA engleman spruce top, sperzels, gold hardware, fishman prefrix pro preamp...the rest you can get on the website... pretty simple, but it gets the job done well

I play all sorts of music, jazz, funk, fusion, some folk, blues, rock, etc, and this guitar plays very well for all... its a bright soudning guitar, i'll give it that, so if you're in the market for a dark sounding drednough, then this is not your cup of tea.... but if you are looking for a guitar that has a nice bright end, this should work well. It is also loud for a small bodied acoustic - most small bodies sound very "muted" and this guitar does a good job of getting past the "muted" sound i've heard in many cutaway acoustics. You can hear it well unplugged. plugged in, the guitar sounds very nice, not quakish like most peizos, props to fishman for the pikcup. The EQ is very versatile, and you can get all sorts of sounds outta this pickup, which comliments different kinds of music.

Overall, its a good acoustic if you need a bright, fast playing, rich sounding guitar to cover your acoustic bases... this is DEFINETLY an alternative to ovations - i don't have anything against ovations, but if you want another alternative to an ovation that is small bodied and plays fast, i reccommend this... great guitar overall.
