1985, USA, 20 fret, Solid top, H/H, (volume, volume, tone, 3-way, passive, Koa neckthru body, rosewood neck, kahler tremolo, destroyer style body? Carvin nonlocking tuners, Factory hardcase w/ strap, tools, etc...

Sound : 10
Suits whatever style suits you although the shape of the body might not go over well with country. More for rock or metal. I use crate and carvin gear w/ carvin 410 cabinets. Boss octave pedal. Really a nice sounding bass. I play it hard!! Cuts through and has a unique growl. My dislikes on this bass is only that I didn't buy 2 back in 85 and that Its made of KOA and its so darn heavy. You could probably drive a truck over it and still play a show.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this new in 85. In 1988 put it away in the closet with strings on it. In tune. In 1991 took it out to play and it was still in tune. Played the same. the only thing I've ever replaced besides the strings is the input jack.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It has withstood live playing. Alot of it! It has lasted 24 years now being the solo bass played. Just plug it in...................................

Customer Support : 10
I have dealt with Carvin since 1985 and they have always taken good care of me on all my gear! Period! Warranty or not. They just wont build any double neck basses for me :-(.

Overall Rating : 10
I started playing bass in 1983. Don't think I could replace it. Those that have em, keep em. I love that it helped me learn all those songs and never once let me down! This is not a glorified review. It is a 1985 high gloss black Carvin w/kahler tremolo that was made out of koa and has paid me back a thousand fold.

this bass comes from the 80's for i have collected Carvin catalogs since '78. 20 frets, laminated top with ebony fingerboard, flying V type headstock with the "old"Carvin logo mated to it. Made in USA,the say.it also has black carvin single coils, black hardware, the entire instrument is fire truck red! also, 3 way togo switch, active or passive. maple body and neck.this bass is related to its cousin the V220,kahler bridge, tuners are carvin. thin frets with ebony fingerboard.i got a HARDSHELL case to go with it!!!!The basses body looka like a cross Flying V and a Explorer combine from Gibson. It's a trip.

i'm just hanging out with it at home. waiting for a band. I only have a Peavey Minx 110 Amp.I love to stick this thing in a bigger rig.this bass is awesome. For those that pay $1000 up for vintage basses if you find 1,or any Carvin you see,and plug it in and wail!!! I wish Carvin made short scale basses, this thing is a challenge to play but alot lighter than my Peavey T40 bass. If I have the money and found another Carvin bass,i'll probably grab it,insure it,and keep playing.now i want to try their amps.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
It seem that the action, fit and finish are probably some of the best I've ever seen from a used Carvin instrument.the moment i picked it up,and having a background,i played the instrument in Fast Eddie's Music in Ypsilanti,Michigan, downtown. he sold it to me for a great price that was too good.it does show a very little wear and tear since brand.the Carvin tuners, yes Carvin, stay in tune pretty much 90% of the time, and their smooth and strong.and the Kahler bridge speaks for itself.

Reliability/Durability : 9
this bass was meant to be played live. I feel like I can go out with ANY band as their bass player and know that I would satisfy the hell out of everyone at the show, all 100000 say.this bass is worth more than the were asking new.Take care of the Hardware, make sure certain items are oiled, like the brige to remove rust spots, change the strings when the need to be changed and watch the headstock.strap locks are as solid as any other professinal bass guitar, old or new,out there. If I could have a backup, and I was rich,I hope i can 5+ of this model, regardless of haves and have nots,as my backup bass guitars.

I've never had to deal with Carvin except to keep getting their catalogs until I die. These people sell awesome professional stuff DIRECT from the factory. It's field servicable, like anything else. Will I buy a new guitar from Carvin, only time and money will tell. My bass has no warranty. But it is a great bass.P.S. Carvin if you're reading this keep seding me catalogs all the time for the rest of my life, thank you.

Overall Rating : 9
As you can see i'm trying to be straight with everyone out there about Carvin. If I had my own band and could afford everything except the drums,guitars,basses,etc...it would be Carvin. I rarely see Carvin anywhere but usual when I come across anything it has always been something great. what's more,I've seen Jefferson Starship.,the lead guitar player craig ???????? used a carvin stack setup and at the time,a prototype of the V220 guitar.the stuff was awesome, and can that man play.Frank Zappa's set up featured a Carvin half stack, pickups in his Les Paul, and a possible Carvin "mesa boogie" type Amp.with 1 speaker like the Mesa Boogie Amp..to me i have rated everything 9 because 10 is just too perfect for me or anyone.
