I saw your post in re Charvel guitars.

In the 1930s a fellow named Moore had a music shop in downton Fort Worth. He eventually
developed a successful catalog/mail order company aimed at public schools, church day
schools, etc., named Rhythm Band.

The catalog contained lots of wood blocks, zithers, chimes, bells, drums, and so on.

Later his son Tommy Moore started an associated company called Charvel. Tommy was quite a
Japan-ophile and traveled there often, learned the language, and arranged for three
subcontractors to build guitars according to his drawings and specs.

The co was selling $60 million per year when I was there in 1988. International Music Co was
located on E Lancaster Blvd in Fort Worth. We received shipments from Japan in large
containers, say 5000 guitars a month more or less.

International Music Co was also the US distributor of some nice Akai studio equipment. The
in-house service manager was a nice fellow from the UK and the shop handled guitar repairs
and also warranty repairs on Akai.

The rising yen reduced the profit margins. While I was there Tommy Moore sold about 25% of
the co to First Boston, and then later sold them the whole co.

Later after I left the co it was sold to an Indian man who was killed in a car accident and I
believe Tommy Moore re-acquired the co. When I went by the location the other day the sign
in front said Rhythm Band.

I have lost track.... it looks like Jackson may be the owner of the Charvel name now.

This goes way back .... around 1980 Charvel showed a guitar at a guitar show, and the Jackson
guy came over and complained that it was a copy of a Jackson and said there could be a law
suit. Charvel apparently made a counter-offer to buy in to the Jackson co. I am not sure of
the details other than that there was some relationship and it was a good match as both co
were in the same business, Jackson making guitars in the US and Charvel with the Asia
connection.

Not sure what year it was made(89-92) Japanese made, 22 fret, s/s/h, 5 way selector switch, 1 vol, 1 tone. Humbucker is a J90C and the singles are J100. Has a Jackson/Schaller Floyd made in Germany (JT590). Rosewood fret board on a maple neck.

Sound : 8
I play metal (mostly) and the humbucker sounds pretty good for being stock. I don't care for the single coils, too noisy, I might change them out.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought this used, and it needed a set-up when I got it. Just to adjust it to my own personal taste. The finish is beautiful (flamed orange). The overall quality is great. Love the neck.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar seems like it can hold up to anything I can dish out. It is very well made, top quality parts, made to last. I always use Schaller strap locks, so the strap buttons are not really an issue. I feel like I could use it without a backup, but I would never gig without a backup cause that's just dumb. ESPECIALLY with a guitar that has a Floyd...

I have been playing for several years. I own a Jackson RX10D and a RR5. I just wanted a guitar I could "sit down" with cause the V's are uncomfortable for me. I play through a Crate GFX1200H full stack. If this was stolen I would not hesitate to buy another one.

80's made..don't know the exact year...The back plate says forth worth, Texas or something, but I checked it up and I think it's japan made.
Cream white, Ebony fretboard. One vol, one tone and a 5way pickup selector. Passive electronics. Classic Charvel look with that hockey club head. Floyd rose of course...from schaller. W case
got it from my brother...don't know how much it's worth...probably around 500 dollars or something..it's worth more to me so I'm not selling..

Sound : 10
The sound is phat! easy squealing guitar and very fast...I'm glad to have had this as my first guitar! Nice metal sound and nice clean sound...love the pickups!

I don't play this one anymore because of troubles with the floyd rose...it gets out of tune as soon as I touch the whammy bar...I'm too lazy to replace it at the moment..I have my Les pual gothic and an Ibanez Rg570ex..so I'm quite happy=)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I have played around with the pickups and I got the sound I wanted...fuck factory settings...adjusting things is easy!
This guitar only has one flaw: The floyd. As I mentioned before it has worn out and I need to replace it. I think I know the reason for this though. My brother had it before me for many years..and he was the shred meister...so I guess it got kinda abused...I guess I have done my share of abuse too...so maybe a crippled floyd is to expect!
Otherwise its rock solid. The floyd is a pain and somewhat expensive so it pulls down the points on action fit and finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Hell yeah it will sound great live! I didn't play live while I played this guitar, but I have wet dreams at night!
Some people say don't gig with a floyd w/out backup...I havent broken a single string on my floyd equipped guitars yet...and I have fucked them up a great deal while trying.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Since the company is dead and the warranty doesn't last anymore...

I mailed charveljacksonsomething.com when I tried to date this guitar and I got a nice answer..don't remember when it was made though..I remember the model name...and the fact that it was japan made...they answered quite fast...thats good..:) I can't grade this one really...

Overall Rating : 10
playing for 6 years own a charvel charvette, this one, an Ibanez rg570ex and a les paul gothic...the first two are retired from their job...
If there were any of these guitars avaliable I would probably buy another if this one(against all odds)were to be stolen...If it was, i would buy a new great charvel for a very low price, becasue the 80's metal guitars are clearly underrated, both in price and in sound

late 80's-early 90's jap. charvel. 22 fret bolt on maple neck with indain rosewood fingerboard. 5 way switch, 1 vol. 1 tone. s/s/h jackson pickups. flamed maple body, looks nice (mines orange sunburst, looks exactly like the new Charvel Traditional.) charvel toothpaste logo. standard soloist body. german made schaller floyd rose (the real thing, not a cheap imitation). jackson tuners.

Sound : 9
quite a range of musical styles here. i use this guitar or a gibson sg through a boss blues driver>ibanez cs5 super chorus>Arion Stereo delay>Fender Princeton 65. through use of certain fx combos, i can get from Stevie Ray to a perfect Kirk Hammett with a stomp and a switch flip. The thing is silent unless you play, then it can wail like a banshee or sing like a dove.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought the guitar used, so the set up was terrible. took it in to the local guitar shop and the stores most floyd-rose knowledgeable employee set it up perfect. he had to fix the intonation, and just the bridge, straighten the truss rod, and adjust the pickups, but now the thing is perfect. for being as old as it is, the body is in remarkably flawless shape and nothing is missing.

Reliability/Durability : 9
the guitar has withstood two shredders now, and i think it will last until someone intentionally destroys it because they don't know how to work the floyd rose. the strap button are a little on the big side, so the guitar won't fall, but it's a pain getting the strap on and off. i would gig without a backup, except i always take my gibson with me to shows and practices anyhow.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i sent in two requests for information about this guitar about 2 months ago and still havn't heard anything back.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing for a little while now, and i own a cheap ibanez with dimarzio pickups i put in aftermarket (they way outclass the guitar), and a Gibson SG Special, which compliments this guitar nicely, picking up where this guitar leaves off. i hope this never gets stolen because i've only ever seen one other one and that was priced at $600. This plays much faster than any other guitar i've ever played, and i've played a bunch. Independant pickup switches would have been nice though.

Ok. Here's the deal. I bought it used. It was made in Japan in late 1989. Basswood body/maple neck/rosewood fingerboard. J90 humbucker and two J100 single coils. It has a bad-ass sparkle green finish (not flake). It has a Schaller Floyd Rose on it, which performs beautifully if properly set up. I bought it used for $350, which, I think was a great price for it. I do have one complaint about the frets though. They are perfect except for the fact that they are wearing down quicker than I would have expected.

Sound : 8
The J90 humbucker is decent. I think I am going to replace it with a SD Full Shread or something. The singles are decent too. I would replace them with SDs, but it isn't worth the money. They aren't alot of sounds that you can squeeze out of this guitar. The humbucker puts out a shitty clean sound, but what do ya expect out of a humbucker? Other than that...It sounds prety good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The finish kick ass. Durable. Looks great. No flaws by the neck joint, either. It was used. So, the pickups of coarse had to be adjusted. I had to adjust the action, too. But, i mean, who cares. It all comes down to personal taste. Singles are really noisy and crappy sounding on distortion. You may ask, "why are you useing singles for dist.?". Well, i was trying to get that blues/Strat sound. It never worked. Now, the trem does have a flaw. It comes back UP exactly where it should. But, it does come back DOWN where it should when you uptrem. That problem I can live with (although, it is kinda annoying.) Anybody know what will help?

Reliability/Durability : 9
Great guitar. Great finish. It would definatly withstand plenty of gigs. The only problem is, it has a Floyd. And everyone knows the Golden Floyd Rule. -If your guitar has a Floyd, you bring a backup.- Strings break+floating trems drop into cavities=Out of tune. Now, I already explained my one problem with the Floyd, but thats about it. Finish will probably last forever, especially if you polish it. Strap buttons?..Whatever.

Customer Support : 7
Never called anyone, nor found any number to call. Which pissed me off. I did find an Email address, though. There was a really nice guy who helped me find out a little about my guitar. Which was cool of him to do. No warranty (because it was used). Whenever I need my guitar repaired, I do it myself. Everyone should do this, because it gets you on a more personal level with your guitar. It also betters the relationship that you two will have in the future. Whatever. If I need parts, then I go to Jupiter Music (FL).

Overall Rating : 10
I love this guitar. Floyds rule too. I wish i could replace this if it was stolen, but, I don't think could find something quite like it. Charvel are a big mystery to me, anyways. If anyone could help me find out more about them, then feel free to Email me. I have been playing for only 2 years now and this is my 3 and best guitar yet. I have played plenty of bad-ass Jacksons which just blow me away. BUT Nothing comes close to this for the price. It plays like a dream with a little adjusting. My love goes out to you at Jackson/Charvel place.
