My Charvette was made in '92 in the US. 24 Frets. Solid Top. Volume and 5-way controls but i modded mine so it has a master volume, tone control with black ice to replace the capacitor so i can add gain instead of tone, seperate volumes for each pickup, phase switch, killswich. S/S/H Charvel pickups i reaplaced mine with EMG S/S/81, was passive now active, i think the body wood is mahogany or basswood, the neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard, black finish, the body is like a dinky or soloist with a contour on the front of the bottom horn, I have a original Floyd Rose on it but the Stock Licensed floyd rose was kind of wierd because instead of the fine tuners being on the body of the floyd its on the string locking screws, very thin small scale jumbo frets, bought it used so no accessories
Sound
:9
I play a lot of like thrash, metal and stuff like that and it suited me very well,I'im using my Marshall DSL100, 1960A and on the bottom of the stack a 1936, my effects are a Big Muff Pi USA, Small Clone, BOSS NS-2, BOSS RV-5, BOSS DD-6, BOSS BF-3, MXR Phase 90, CryBaby Classic, DigiTech Whammy, It was noisy when i had the stock pickups on it when it was in overdrive but now my EMGs are doing well, This guitar had an amazing sound for the price when it was stock, the guitar was very good with sounds it has good harmonics and pinch harmonics with the stock pickups, I loved the sound but over time the graphite nut next to the locking nut (I call this a "Ghetto Nut Configuration) wore down and it lowered the strings too much so i got buzz on the 12th and 17 fret so i had to get a new nut made.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
From how I got it used I loved the action, it was nice and low without buzz (until the graphite nut wore down see above) you could shred extremely fast with this action, The pickups were perfect because the music shop had set everything up after they bought it from the original owner, the bridge routing was interesting on this instead of being routed so the floyds pivot screws were in the hole it was routed so that the hole is a half a centimeter away from the screws but I think they did that since its an angled neck so the Floyd needs to be a bit higher, there were a few flaws from rugged use like scratches and paint chips but nothing from the factory except the fret wire was a little bit screwy so I had to get that refiled and eventually replaced.

This guitar can withstand live playing probably even a nuclear war, the hardware will last forever its very solid, finish is very good mine has taken a beating though from its previous owner but I like it because if I ding it it wont matter because it already was. The strap buttons are fine but i replaced mine with Schaller Straplocks, this guitar is extremely reliable I would definitely use it on a gig without a backup.

The company is awesome (Previously owned by Jackson but now owned by Fender) they help me with everything I need like today I called and the told me what year it was, I don't need them to repair it I do most of my own or my local shop does, I bought it used so it's not under warranty so I have no idea how long it was in the first place.

I've been playing almost 3 years now, I own a Tele, Warlock, Aria, Godin Acoustic and all were crap compared to this workhorse, I don't wish I would have bought anything before I purchased this, If this were stolen or lost I would be so pissed I would defininetly buy this again, I love everything about this guitar, I'd compare this to a Jackson DK2M because both sound great and are amazing for the price, When it was stock I wished it had more controls but thats not too hard to mod for.

Made 9-26-90, (I know cuz I checked into it using the serial number, emailed Jackson) 24 fret, rosewood fretboard, 1 volume control, 5 way switch selector, H/s/s config, passive, basswood body, maple neck, one of the best I've ever played (necks) strat-style body, kind of a pink finish. Has a cutaway in lower bout for access to all 24 frets. Floyd Rose bridge. Bought it with gig bag from a friend for only $100!!
Sound
:8
I play through a Crate GFX 212+ combo, it sounds good, but not heavy enough for what I play (nu-metal, industrial). I have it tuned to drop B like Slipknot, sounds pretty decent. The pickups are silent in all settings. Wait, BEYOND silent. Doesn't have the greatest sustain in the world, but for nu-metal, who needs it? It's too bright, I intend to replace the bridge pickup with a Duncan Distortion.

I don't know how it was set up at the factory, but I set it up the day I bought if from my friend. It was his cousin's, who had played it about 4 times, then put it in a gig bag in a closet. Since it was just sitting there, and I liked the feel of it, I got it for $100. The finish is flawless. Everything's a perfect fit, and the action is just right after I set it up.

This guitar has taken the worst beatings any guitarist could offer, and is still in MINT condition. Not a single knick on it, not the slightest scratch, and I play hard and heavy. It's 100% reliable for an old guitar, probabaly cuz it was barely played before I bought it. I'd never play anything anywhere without a backup.

The only time I dealt with them was having them find the manufacture date and the model (I wasn't sure if it was a 270 or not). They were extremely helpful, and got back to me within hours of my asking.

I've been playing for 3 years, I have an Ibanez RG7321, RG 560, a Jackson USA Soloist (1990), and a PRS Singlecut along with this. All my guitars are tuned differently. I got a great deal on it considering the condition. If it were stolen, I know I would never find another one just like it, because it's in such perfect condition. I wouldn't bother getting another one, even though it is a great guitar, I only bought it because of the price. I wish it didn't sound so bright, cuz I have to change the pickups now, but other than that, no complaints at all.

strat-style basswood body. Very light, nice to hold, but sustain lacks a little. Sustain is also limited due to the floyd-rose style vibrato bridge it is fitted with.
21 frets on one of the nicest necks you will ever play. It feels like a jackson i played at the store this guitar was bought at, maybe even nicer due to its age.
The pickup configuration is H/S/S, the bridge humbucker is nicely balanced, offering a deep bass responce, as well as tackling the highs fairly well. The humbucker is hot, but not so much that it feeds back in relatively low-gain situations, like other guitars i have played recently (cheap epiphone humbuckers come to mind).
The single coils are punchy, extrermely bass-y pickups that offer a great rythm tone. All electronics are passive, and are comparable to jackson electronics.
Sound

Sound is something that is always hard to rate, as it depends on the situation. In high-gain, treble-heavy toned situations, this guitar screams and maintains its clarity very well. In bass-heavy, pignose-influenced rigs, the guitar sounds rather muddy and notes all mash together.
I started off playing slayer tunes on this guitar, and it suits that style perfectly. The rich highs made me really happy with this guitar initially, and still do today.
If you like anything with the term 'metal' in it, this guitar could be the one for you.
Action, Fit, & Finish

the action throughout the neck was low, and not buzzy at all. the tremolo came set properly, and almost perfectly in tune.
The pickups were set fine for the average player, but as i never really use the single-coils, they were screwed down a tad to reduce string pull and lenghten sustain.
The finish was un-flawed and flat. The paint is durable, and the only mark on this guitar is from when i used to play wearing a bracelet, and one day hit down on the strings and put a small dint in the polish over the paint. Other than this, the large 'SLAYER' logo scratched into the front lower body horn is the only other mark.
Reliability/Durability

Until recently i have had no flaws with this guitar at all.
Just recently i noticed a small crack down the side of the tremolo block but thought nothing of it, but over time it got larger and the vibrato arm became loose and a small piece of the tremolo block fell away. I returned the guitar to the store and they were very helpful in every acpect. This all happened a week before christmas, and they worked with it over the break, and replaced the tremolo with another, which almost fits perfectly. (apart from the fact its wider than the original and i can only now bend up one half-step).
This guitar has also just recently become a backup guitar, as i purchased a new Kramer to take over as the main stage guitar.
Overall very reliable apart from that unfortunate fault with the vibrato.

The customer support from the charvel company is now non-existant, although Jackson guitars have been helpful in trying to find what year my guitar was made.
The repair was done by the store it was purchased from, (Easdens - i can't thank them enough for everything) as they gave me a one year warranty when i bought it.
The rating is for the store, not the company.

I have been playing now for about a year, and this guitar served me well as the beginner guitar i was after.
If it were stolen, i would probably giggle to myself that the theif missed the Kramer and stole that, but i would probably not replace it as they are impossible to find.
If you see one of these in good condition, consider purchasing it. Don't fob it off as a cheap copy, as it is so much more.

This is a correction to my comment that the bridge humbucker was actually just a two coil pickup. That is not correct. Upon coil tapping it is clear that the unit is indeed a humbucker. However it does not successfully cancel the hum completely, the combination of the two single coils is fully hum canceling however, which is what led to my mistake.

Unknown year of make. I got this guitar 2nd hand for parts really but since the previous review was the only source of info I could find I thought I would add some more detail. The Charvette 270 has Charvel tuners, pickups and a floyd rose double locking trem. The pickups are a double coil and 2 single coils. That IS a double coil and not a humbucker - at least on this one. The single coils combined cancel hum the double coil does not. However the guitar is screened very well with conductive paint and VERY noise resistant. The hum can only be heard through 2 distortion pedals on max gain!!! Construction features - excellent slim neck - 10 years old probably and badly looked after but it is still perfectly straight and great action. The body is solid wood, the finish is thick polyuerethane or the like. It has a Gibson scale neck that is angled back a few degrees and the heel has a reduced profile. The 5 way switch is SEALED so no dust gets in and is still working well. The volume control also still works. The floyd, the locking nut and tuners still work although the nut has deep grooves from the strings worn in and the little "tongues" on the bottom of the bridge string locks are mostly broken although this does not affect their operation.
Sound

I only checked this briefly after buying it (I got it for parts remember) and it is noise free unles you use insane amounts of gain (see above). The bridge sound was good and the single coils were okay, the strings were very dead so its not fair to say much.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:7
Originally this guitar must have been very nice indeed. Since then it has aquired heavy dents and a chip off the pointy headstock but the action and neck are still great. Everything seems to have been done properly and accurately during construction. Bad points - there is what looks to be a factory installed shim in the neck pocket on the bass side. This was too wide and as a result there is a crack from the treble side of the neck pocket to the 1st pickup in the body. There is also a crack behind the treble bridge post. The cracks don't appear to be getting worse though and could be glued. The guitar is very neck heavy and nosedives into the floor from your knee if not held.
Reliability/Durability
:8
This guitar is old (10-15 yrs) and has withstood a lot of abuse and the harware, maybe with the exception of the locking nut, is still going strong. Oh and the strap buttons have large flanges. If I wasn't pulling it apart for the parts I would expect it to keep working fine.

I have been playing 10 years and own a similar type of "metal" guitar that isn't as good. If I could go back in time I'd rather have had the charvette. a tone control would be nice though.

Year made unknown, factory unknown. 24 frets on an ultrathin neck, Floyd Rose II locking setup, solidbody Strat copy, volume control only, Charvel pickups with S/S/H configuration, came with bag.

Played through a myriad of amps, has good strat tone. Best switch positions are any! Gets twangy-clean in the neck/mid positions, and the 'bucker is pure rock and roll! This is the first guitar I've owned that I can dive the whammy ALL the way down and comes back in tune, same way with pulling up. The ultrathin neck has a feel like silk, and can get really fast on high-speed leads.

I had to set it up for my own feel (but I do that anyway), and lift the pickups a little higher with a couple of shims. Other than that, it's rock-solid!

This is a real dependable guitar. It has high-quality hardware and great finish- black. It has some buckle scratches on the spring plate, no biggie. I'd go every song every night with this axe.

Out of the 25 years I've been playing, I've never had a guitar quite like this one. I really dig the whammy! If I lost this, I'd be pissed. Compared to my Predator, it rates the same tonewise; actionwise, the Floyd Rose beats my Predator's action all to hell!
