This Charvel model 88 was a limited edition of 1000 made in 1988. Grover Jackson had made a prototype that was offered as a give away prize in A guitar magazine around that time. It features a bolt on maple neck with rosewood fretboard, reverse "shark tooth" inlays, and a reverse headstock. It also features a single Jackson pick-up, single volume control and a Jackson "floyd rose" style tremolo. The body is African mohagany with a tobacco sunburst finish.

Sound : 10
I wasn't thrilled with the sound when I first bought the guitar. I play heavy metal type music and the guitar seemed a little flat. What I did was remove the solid Jackson pick-up cover and it's a whole differant story now. Great sound! I love it. I would run it straight into a Marshall JCM 900. I haven't noticed any noise. I think it sounds great for metal. It does have a nice brite yet deep twang if your amp has a good clean channel.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I did need to set-up the guitar to my liking when I first bought it. With a very thin shim, I pitched the neck back a little.(as I've done with others). I have never noticed any flaws in the guitar. I have never had to "fix" anything.

Reliability/Durability : 6
I have never had a reliability problem with the guitar. I have not had that type of problem with any other guitar either. The durability is another story. I love the beautiful finish. I don't love the chips in my beautiful finish. I have found that the finish seems to be very delicate. I have several battle wounds on the guitar. Most of them should never have happend. I have found that if I bang it, It chips.

Overall I love the guitar. It is the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen! It sounds great. I feels great(to me). I am a bit disapointed with the durability of the finish. I wish I had another. I would like to buy another if I could find one.
Please call if you know where I can buy one. Bubba (928)649-1545
