This model is slightly up market on the Fat Lady ones. Body edge binding
etc. I ordered this one with large Abalone fret markers and a slightly
slimmer neck profile. Solid Bunya top, Blackwood back and sides.Stunning
looking guitar. As no two pieces of Bunya look the same, you get a very
individual guitar. The size of these guitars is slightly wider than other dreadnoughts. Fortunately Cole Clark now have their own deluxe
case with their logo across it. Obviously a perfect fit. This slight
"oversizing" seems to complement the tone. Lots of bass but not boomy.
Lots of low end "spank" and bright trebles. To my ears the middles seems a little scooped unplugged. To me not a bad thing. Their smaller bodied angel is a fantastic guitar if your looking at a flat frequency
response for finger picking etc. Once plugged in your in new territory. Without the constraints of to much bracing on the 6mm top
the internal "Face brace" pick up does its job of relaying all of the
tops resonance to the pre amp. This combined with the bridge p/up is
were these guitars differ from the rest of the pack.

The fact is that these guitars sound like you! on a very good day!!! It's the whole point. If you play quietly in a finger style or beat the crap out a guitar (as i do) the Clark guitars seem to recognize your style and take on your personality. The cycle of "Sound better, play
better, play better sound better is fully realized.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Clark guitars leave the factory set reasonable low.Very easy to play.
I personally took a little tension off of the neck and restrung mine to
raise the action about a 1/16. As I described I tend to get pretty zealous when I play, plus use a lot of different tunings so a slightly
higher action suits me.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Although I don't gig every day, this guitar gets played vigorously
everyday. The finish (very light satin) will obviously "gloss" with
playing. But thats just character. Will it last 40 years and be a vintage collectible? Who knows! Don't care! This guitar plays, looks and
sounds great now.

You can phone the company. You may get to speak to customer relations or
Brad Clark himself. Check out their webb sight for the background and
no BS aproach these guys have.

I have been playing for many years. Bought a lot of gear. This is by far
the best value for money acoustic guitar I have played. Actually forget
about the cost theses guitars are so just so good, if you get a chance
play one!

Features All solid wood, Spruce top with Queensland Maple Back & Sides.
Dreadnaught Cutaway, grover rotomatic tuners, Lean C profile neck (very comfortable) 2006 Model Rosewood fretboad & Bridge with MOP block inlays. Timber binding, Very nice 3 piece back...They could have added all the trinkets to make it more fancy but that would only add to the cost & Hey, I bought this guitar to play, not hang on the wall at look at!

Sound : 10
Without going into an essay, Sound would best be described as BEAUTIFUL BALANCED TONE all the way up the neck! This sweet lady rings like a bell. Play it hard, nothing gets drowned out, it only sounds better! This Lady is SWEET!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is superb, Low enough for easy play, high enough to give it a good bash. I personally thought the frets could have been crowned a little more but it isn't a problem.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I often tap the soundboard when i play & i could feel straight away the strength in this guitar, The Fat lady might not have all the frills but nothing has been spared where it counts, Quality construction & Hardware. Nice to see a chunky brass nut for the truss rod too, never seize, easy to adjust if you have to. I have no doubt this guitar will go the distance.

Customer Support : 5
Eamiled Cole Clark twice, 1st time got a reply from Brad Clark but no follow up, Second email was an enquiry about the finish, never got a reply...........

Overall Rating : 10
Have played Guitar for over 20 years, I also own a Maton FG100 (solid wood) Cort & Aria acoustics + a handful of various electrics, the Maton was my baby but The Fat Lady has really secured the #1 spot, This guitar is an absolute great all rounder, the sound makes you want to play more...As the say, GET ONE, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Australian dreadnought acoustic cutaway with Cole Clark patented piezo pickup, made in 2007 in Oz. This one made with (Australian) Queensland maple through neck /headstock, bunya soundboard (Australian pine said to have acoustic qualities possibly superior to spruce), Indian rosewood sides and body (a custom option) and fretboard. Neck med-thin, 22 frets. MOP neck inlays. Grover tuners.
These guitars come in a variety of woods with emphasis on Aussie woods. All are made of solid wood with carved insides for better acoustics and classical/Spanish style through-neck design (almost all other brands glue the neck in)

Sound : 9
A guitar to suit any mood. Mellow, gutsy, very full bass and midrange courtesy of the rosewood body that will only get better with age; crisp top end, sounds brilliant at any sound level but loves hard playing. Wonderful, warm, clear sound. I play mainly rock, blues and jazz with some classical. It sounds simply beautiful no matter what you ask of it. Hard to imagine a better guitar, certainly under $5000. I couldn't find a Maton at any price to match mine but that cannot be said about all Cole Clarks I have to say. Some of them are too top-heavy/bright but I am told they all sound superb when amped. I have not plugged this one in.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Perfect tune straight out of the box. Medium-high action, the nut was slightly uneven -could be improved. There are a couple of flaws in the bunya top but they just add character really. The rosewood back and sides are gobsmackingly gorgeous- really perfect bookmatched patterned wood. The neck is smooth and fast with a golden/wheat colour wiggly grain pattern in the head. A stunning guitar with a special look about it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Very well made overall but the finish is not high-end and no bindings and little inlay etc. Has a couple of dings on the unbound edges after after 6 months *sniff*. Will withstand years of live playing and of course one should always have a backup "in case".

Customer Support : 10
Great local distributor gives top aftermarket service if needed (not yet) for this guitar). No problems and the Cole Clark boss emails back personally if you have any questions, especially about aussie woods! No kidding.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 5 years. This guitar just begs me to pick her up every day. It's kind of different and special, the way it looks with the somewhat unusual wood combo and then that extraordinary sound. I looked mainly at Matons as well, they are consistently very good, probably more consistently than Cole Clarks but you don't get the real jaffas like this one either and I found them a bit bland by comparison. Similarly priced guitars are not nearly as good value, as all Cole Clarks have a solid wood body vs e.g. only Matons over about $1500. And at this price ($2000) I couldn't find anything even close in sound quality.

If lost I would definitely buy another one just like it.

I know i haven't added much extra but the other dude nailed it! I couldn't find much info on this guitar and i thought i would give my opinion. All my friends have maton 225 and 325 guitars. I heard about the cole and gave it a try because i wanted a different look and sound. I had my 1st jam with the boys last night and this bad boy kills the matons hands down. Of course i was biased so i asked my friends. The unanimous feedback was a much fuller sound, extra base with no tinny sound on the high e. The action is so close to the matons it is rediculous. As for looks, it is awesome. Although all my mates have new (under 12 months) matons, 1 will buy a fat lady after last night , and the others want too! Do yourself a favour, don't stick mainstream, playit alongside something else and then make your decision. GO AUSSIE MADE!!!

Cole Clark, model, Fat Lady 2 Acoustic Cutaway, made in Australia and bought 2nd hand (in showroom condition) for AU$1000, so, saved myself 700 bucks on a new one. The guitar is 2 years old with no visible fret wear and has a low satin finish. The body is Cole Clark design, but is around about your basic dreadnought shape. The bridge is a reasonably elaborate style and is rosewood, as is the heavily inlaid fretboard that carries 20 frets. The tuners are Grovers. It has a AA spruce top with nice bear clawing that runs up the middle of its' length and comes with a two way pickup system. The back is carved solid Queensland Maple (Austrlian native) and the sides are also solid Qld maple, as is the neck.

Sound : 9
The sound is good, which has a real quality to it, but if anything, the Blackwood, or the rosewood models would be warmer in tone than the maple. Even so, the sound is good, with beautiful, soft, deep, full base and trebely highs and anywhere in between, but just lacks that certain warmth that I've heard elsewhere. Plugged in, the guitar is second to none (that Iv'e heard) and is a great stage or session instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action is amazing and is great to play, quality plus ! I've played better, though ! I doubt if it could be lowered any further and the fret edges are smooth as any, but in all fairness, this guitar has had work done to it by its' previous owner, so I can't really comment on a fully Cole Clark factory setup. All bookmatching is spot on.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Cole Clark guitars have only been around for a few short years ( but Mr Clark was with Maton for more than a decade) and I guess only time will tell how these things will withstand the test of time, it's like anything, if you look after it I'm sure it will as it appears to be made quite robust. I think it pays to always carry a spare if you are gigging.

Customer Support : 10
I've heard they are very good, and also, promt.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 33 years and have accumulated heaps of things in that time, sold or given away things I wished I hadn't and not bought things I wished I had, e.g. a K. Yairi D45 copy, which was the warmest sounding and the most morishly playable guitar I've ever played, I let it slip and it was only 700 bucks, too ! I really do like this Cole Clark and if it were lost or stolen then I would probaly look at another timber combination before I relpaced this one exactly, or possibly look towards a Fat Lady 3. If there was anything I wished it had, then I would have to say (because this guitar retails for $1700) that the neck construction should be made out of one piece, as opposed to the 3 seperate bits of timber (head stock, neck and butt). Compared to new Maton 325 cutaway, the Maton was darker in tone, but the Cole Clark is more responsive (carved solid maple as opposed to conventional constructed laminated Queensland Walnut that the Maton carried). You can feel the Cole Clark vibrating against your body as you are playing it, as it is a very vibrant guitar and full of innovation in design. The reason I bought one of these is, because I've heard nothing but good things about them and if they are good enough for the likes of Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, John Butler, etc, etc, then they are good enough for you and me, or me, at least. The finish on the body is brilliant, but the back of the neck is not as slippery as i would like.
