Guitar was made in 98
I got it slightly busted up with damage to the back. Glued it together with wood glue and put it in a vise overnight. I've been playing it for 5 yrs! It still has the best acoustic sound of any guitar that I have played. although my experience with other guitars is limited (ovation, alvarez, taylor). It still beats everything so far. For a small guitar, base sound is deep and rich. Even old strings sound bright on this guitar.

couldn't afford to buy one. just got lucky.

nice glossy finish. don't hit it on anything hard though. it cracks almost like glass.

a gentleman at the factory listened with amazement at my story about recovering this guitar from the "dumpster". He seemed to approve of my repair methods and commented on what a deal I got out of it.

1999 Collings C10 with Sunburst finish. Mahogany back and sides and spruce top. This is Collings' updated version of the classic Gibson L-00. The guitar has a well-done sunburst finish, white binding pm the body. The neck has black binding and mother of pearl position markers on the fretboard and on the upper side of the neck. Waverly "Butter Bean" tuners. Nice gloss finish. Altogether a very classy, well-done guitar

When I took this guitar home I thought I was going to be disappointed, but after playing it for a couple of months the sound opened up and seriously surprised me and all who heard it. It has a beautiful "Gibson-like" tone that lends itself well to both fingerstyle and flat-picking. Unlike most Gibsons it has a resonant and beautifully sustaing bass. I use Pearce phosphor bronze light-gauge strings and this guitar responds beautifully.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
There are absolutely no flaws on this guitar. The workmanship is beautiful. The shading of the sunburst top is done incredibly well. Collings is a class outfit who obviously cares about it's product.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It is only four years old, but I would bet that this guitar will outlive me and last to provide several people much pleasure down the road.

Customer Support : 10
It was made right in the first place. No customer service or warranty work needed. This model was popular and Collings being a small shop it took about 8 months for them to complete the guitar. I called several times and they were always patient and courteous. Good company, good guitars.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 32 years. Fortunately I've had the means to buy and sell many guitars and this Collings is one that I won't part with. If it were stolen or lost I would buy another although I hate to think of having to wait for the guitar to mature again. For all of you who are intrigued by the Martin and Gibson mistique, you need to check out Collings offerings. They are making what Martin and Gibson used to make, only better.
