Nice poopy would grain finish, strat style tremolo, Explorer body style, 2 humbuckers, 2 vol 1 tone knob, cream (used to be white?)colored selector switch. Well, I cant say I remember what I payed for this, im sure it was over 200 though. It was my first OFFICIAL guitar, my real fist was a Epi strat copy. The pickups werent too bad, the guy at the shop upon looking inside the guitar when I took it in to replace the cable jack, with was basically screwed, he said that they were Duncan Designed pickups. Oh, and I have read all the other reviews, and I m not sure I have the right forum for my model, see, it has NO effects built in.....?

Sound : 5
The sounds was very decent considering My set-up then was a 15 watt epi practce amp, after a Boss Metal Zone pedal. But it DID at times sound like you were listening with a pair of undees on yur head...(no skidmarks please..)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
all you could expect from a pawn shop guitar, it was setup like someone tokkk it apart and put it back together MILITARY style, ya know blindfolded and trying to beat the clock...not too keen on the Fugly ass brown wood grian finish, actually, it snot the finish thats to blame, but the person who decided to put that finish on an Explorer type guitar, it would be better suited to an acoutis, or even a lp...

Reliability/Durability : 9
Well, I cant realy dis this mutha in this department. This guitar has basiclly been my bitch...in the aspect that it has been thrown all around the room, moved from house to house to apartment to apt with minimal, if ANy damage..it sits int eh corner or in the closet for years, tillI decide to steal a saddle here or there...and all this without a case...simply amazing, cant get RID if tha BIATCH!!

What? there is actually a section you are suposed to fill out what gear you allready have? I kinda dont like that, cuase so many poeple blab on and on about their stuff like its highschool....anyways....I am what I like to call, an admited "Dopple-ganger" guitar collector, which means, I long for a certain guitar SO BAD, that I have to go out an buy the cheap vesion..: Squire Tele custom (humbuckers), ACTUAL Fender 60's style strat that I fitted with Texas specials, a Dearmond (by guild) M75-T it is a Grestch style guitar witha bigsby and a champane sparkle finish, an LTD esp Eclipse trans red with EMG 81 in bridge, Cort Explorer of course, Washburn acoustic D-10, Fender Deluxe 40 watt all tube kcikass amp, Peavy 5150 head (original issue version), going through a Fender 4X12 cab,the fender is also fed into the cab.....various effects tube screamer, Moded DS-1, MXR 90 phaser, Boss 9-band EQ, DOD envelope filter, Crybaby Jimmy Hendrix wah, VOX wah, Roger Mayer Spitfire fuzz, distortion, Uni-Vibe (sweet), Hmm thees a little Danelectro French toast pedal probably more but, having a bunch of crap by no means makes me a AWSOME player.....

I'm not kidding, I really did buy this thing for $6 at an outdoor junk auction, and was promptly amazed when all the little whoozits and whyzats actually worked (especially since I'm pretty sure it had been rained on). Of course, the tuning knobs were rusted and/or bent, so right away I had to spend four times what I paid for the guitar to replace them, as well as various other hardware - all said (including strings and gas) spent a total of $50 on this beast. And that's definately the word to describe it - I was excited about the distortion (which seems clunky and invariable) since I've been borrowing a cheap bass amp since my regular amp got stolen. It's nice to just let the hair down and "rock out," such as it were. I know very little about this guitar other I could decide to smash it and not really feel all that bad about it. The cheesy effects fit well with our talent-lacking band(s). Gotta love that shape... a bit heavy, though.

Sound : 7
Suits our purposes, even when our purposes suit nothing. Wish the effects could be modified a bit more. Goes out of tune quite quickly.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Flaws? Yeah, this guitar's got 'em. It was probably sitting in some poor former metal-head's grandma's basement for the past ten years. Rust abounds, it was missing the whammy bar and other misc. equipment. The neck has a worrisome crack in it, and it will probably snap and kill me some day... should make for an interesting obit, anyway. Quite a few dings and scratches, or as I call it, "character."

Reliability/Durability : 8
I'm sure this guitar has been through much more abuse than most could even think about, so yeah, I guess you could say it's durable. The effects keep cutting out (probably easily fixed if I knew waht I was doing) so I wouldn't call it dependable. Mindlessly strumming it through the early morning hours of Nov. 3, 2004 helped me get through the election with minimal tears (and maximum beers).

I got EXACTLY what I paid for. This is a feel-good guitar, a comfort food guitar, that could double as a weapon.

Ok, I'll admit it, I bought this creature because I liked the look and novelty of having built-in effects (the more buttons the better for me - which is why I got my BC Rich Mockingbird Supreme in the first place). Buttons for distortion, phase, chorus, delay, vibrato, and effects on/off. The distortion is nice and solid and when combined with an overdrive or distortion box - it turns into a beast! The only other "effect" worth mentioning is the phase. The others just plain suck. Takes 2(!) 9v batteries to run them.

The models (yes, models, I actually have TWO of these critters!) I have are Explorer bodies (one of the reasons I bought 'em - I love that shape!). Black finish on both.

Two humbucking pickups with no selector switch. Both permanently on! Three knobs - volume, tone and speed (for some of the effects).

The tuners are absolute crap but I opted to keep them since I tend to keep most of my guitars stock. The neck was mahogany on my models and was surprisingly good, straight and wide. The frets were cheap and thin but did their job. Cheapest vibrator system I've ever come across (mine didn't have the bar). But at least you didn't have to clip off the ends of the strings like a Floyd Rose - just string 'em up from the bottom. The body was - get ready for this - PLYWOOD!!! ROCK!!! As shocking as it sounds, it actually gave it a very unique sound and lended a bit of a weird resonance to it.

Don't know when it was made - the person I bought it from had no clue, but said that he had it for at least 10 years). No serial number anywhere but there was some sticker residue where it should've been so that's an indication of what kind of animal this guitar is (serial number stickers).

I believe Cort is a Korean company.

Sound : 10
I got this guitar for one purpose - HARDCORE PUNK! And man, this one fits the bill. It's raw and unpretentious.

I play other styles (progressive, blus, metal, etc.) but I wouldn't recommend this axe for those (except maybe death metal).

Run through just a DOD Supra Distortion box or a Zoom Tri Metal pedal with the built-in distortion and phase effects on, this thing is a beast! Insanity!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
As I said, I got this guitar used, but I still adjusted the action to go as low and fast as I could get it. And set up just right, this axe is quite a joy to play. No buzz at all anywhere and this is probably the lowest action I've gotten out of all my guitars. Contrary to the other reviews on this guitar, I must've been lucky and gotten the two that had some decent workmanship on them.

Can't tell you about the vibrato system since mine didn't have the whammy bar. But I never use the bar anyway, so no loss to me.

The finish (on both of my models) is a very thick gloss black which was just fine for what they are. One of the guitars had a big chip on the back which is how I found out it was made of plywood.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've taken this thing on the road and it's been a staple for the punk band I play in (I don't use it for the progressive band I'm also in) and it takes a lot of punishment and keeps on ticking.

I have those strap-lock washer type things to hold the straps in place since I do a lot of running and jumping around (I used to use rubber plumbing washers).

The only thing I worried about was running out of juice for the effects mid-show, but I've since gotten rechargable 9 volts and I stick in fresh ones before every gig. I usually take 2-3 guitars with me to every show, and for the punk gigs, I take both effectors, each with freshly charged batteries.

Is Cort still around?

Overall Rating : 10
What can I say? It's an ugly duckling but I love it! I love it so much I got TWO of 'em! Certainly not for guitar snobs or anyone who just wants to impress others with expensive collectors guitars, this thing is an unpretentious player's axe. Total punk rock guitar. Raw and straight to the point. Maybe I should start a punk band that uses just cheap equipment and call it "El Cheapo Hombres" or something and see what that would sound like.

The only thing I wish this guitar had was a pickup selector switch.

I do play in a second band (progressive rock - how's that for diversity?) and I don't use the Effector in that band (I use the Les Paul, SG, and 1275 among others).

Been playing since I was a kid in the late 70s and I've amassed a bit of a guitar collection (and a pissed-off girlfriend), so after getting all the "standards" (Les Paul, SG, Explorer, Flying V, Mockingbird, Firebird, 1275, etc). I just started looking at oddball guitars and I'm glad I found this one! Well actually, TWO!! YAY!

I have the box-stock 1980's black beauty. Nothing has been done to it, axcept what the factory did at the start. I haven't taken her apart to find out how it's made or even what it's made of, but I can say that it's made solidly. While some say that it's got a fat neck, and others say it's got a thin neck, I'd say it's got a great neck, it's just very playable. The effects have never given me any problem, and there is controls for the pickup selector, it's a button named "Phase". There's also (in order) the On/off button for the effects, Delay button, "Special" button, Chorus button and the Distortion button. The "Special button" is suposed to change chorus to Wah and Delay to Vibrato, but if you have all three depressed, you just get the tone monster that begs to be played. There's also the volume, tone and Speed knobs, where speed is only there for the effects (I think I've moved it twice in the guitar's life). it also came with a strap and a case. i still have the case (not in great shape, but it still holds the guitar) but the strap died long ago.

Sound : 10
I love the sound of this guitar, better than any fender I've owned and about as good as the Les Paul that I've got, but the on-board options and so on make this the first guitar that I pick up if I decide to play.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I personally found the guitar easy to play the first time I picked it up, which is why I chose to buy it in the first place! It's true that there are better tuning keys on the market, but I think that I'm a better player because I've changed my style to account for them... Now I don't have a guitar out of tune...EVER

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've been playing mine for more than 10 years now, and I've never had a problem with it (other than the usual strings and batteries). It's stood up to a divorce (and a plate glass window) and after all that abuse, I only have 3 chips in the paint, and they aren't that big either...

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had the chance to call the ompany, but the only reason I would is to see if I could get another!

Overall Rating : 10
hehehe... reading through the list... I've been playing it more than 10 years, and I play it into a peavey stack through a fender MT-10 (a cheap crappy practice amp that puts out killer sound). There's nothing I did ask before I bought this guitar other than "Can I try that Telecaster?" If it were stolen or lost, I'd be dead 'cause I do know where it is at all times, but hell yeah, I'd get another one in a heartbeat.
Whay do I love about it? well, it's jsut the perfect all-round package. What do I hate about it... well, My Wife's jelous.
Favroite thing about it would have to be the sound, and the playability.
When buying it, I compared it on many levels to many other guitars, like a Les Paul, a '69 telecaster, and a 84 Strat. it's now thanks to this guitar tat I won't own a strat.
Anything I wish it had? A Twin! it would be nice to see one just like it but left handed for my wife to sit beside it!

I bought this after reading the other reviews of this guitar, and am not sorry I did. I have the "effector" explorer copy. Made in the 80's
still in excellant condition. All the effects still work great, although not very impressive, with the exception of the distortion. Requires two 9 volt batteries, which are a snap to change. No switch for pickup selection which puzzzles me. Great neck, I have small hands and it fits great, wide and flat, typical for the 80's. Tuners could be better, but thats a cheap fix. Well balanced, feels great standing or sitting.

Sound : 10
Although you have no choice of pickup selection, the humbuckers do their job well. A single volume control, could be a little more linear. Tone is also handled by one knob, and the control is impressive, from fat to screamin'and everything in between. I have a Zoom 505 and this thing sounds awesome through it, run through an old 100 watt Sunn Beta Lead amp. I have had all the major brands of guitars in the 37 years I have been playing and this little cheapie, smokes all of them, a real sleeper!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Since I bought it used, I can't tell how well the factory set it up, I had the intonation set,as I do with all the guitars I own. The action is great, bettter than the Les Paul Custom, or my Strat. After 20+ years the black finish still shines almost like new. Sloped heel neck joint, very impressive. Great sustain. The neck sets forward on the body, so when you want to get up the neck, you're already there, no reaching around or under, its great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I use this guitar every Sunday, without back-up. The strap buttons have been moved, but I think that was for more for comfort, the origal holes weren't stipped out. This thing feels rock solid...and rock worthy!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with it......

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing 37 years and was really surprised by this guitar. If it was stolen it would be HARD to replace, this is the only one I have ever seen, but I WOULD try. It is great becuase you don't have to have a pedal, that makes it easy to gig with, but it even sounds better with one. It covers all the bases, from A to Z, a perfect all round performer. The addtion of a pickup selection switch would be nice, and upgrade the tuners. If you have achance to buy one, GRAB IT!

This guitar isn't lacking anything insane, it's got the basics down, which is what an explorer is all about, simply bad a$$. It does have a tilted headstock (13deg.) and a brass nut, complete with a set neck string through the body ancoring design. Unfortunatly, the tuners are horrid, and they just don't to the job in keeping her in tune. She stays in tune most of the way up the neck, but the upper frets intonation is a little off. Mine sports a really cool natural tobbaco burst finish, with a really heavily stained neck. She warms up to playing quickly, and the HUGE beefy neck really feels great. The body is plywood (ah!), and is the usual explorer shape, no funky offshoot or anything here.

Sound : 9
The sounds is nothign less than THICK. I have EMG 81's in both positions cranking through a Peavey Ultra Plus tube head (gain out the wazoo) through an Ampeg cab, and also an old 70's Traynor amp, which is nothing but the blues there. She is really heavy in the sound, and it's hard to beat her low end chunk. The top is there, plus loads of low end, the only thing missing really is a sweet high-mid. It does sound really good however.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
The action on this thing is terrible without major mods! I happily undertook the job, but it was painful. It needed a new bridge countersunk in the body, raised nut, and even a new fret job, but these things happen to a late 60's intrument with no case. Yes, she's a pawnshop special. The finish is great though!!! Vibe, vibe vibe. It looks great. The explorer body itself sits great on your leg, and the neck is really beefy and full, which I like. The whole thing needed sooooo much work, but it was worth it for me.

Reliability/Durability : 5
This thing isn't reliable at all, but I like that personality. I mean, after weeks of teaking, she's rockin, but man oh man! There is hardly anything original on this baby, but that's cool.

Customer Support : No Opinion
NA, she's too old.
