Cort G200 Metallic Pewter Grey finish; 22 medium jumbo frets/maple neck with rosewood fingerboard.basswood body/3 strat style single coil pickups/5way switch/master tone + volume controls..Made in Indonesia.
Bought second hand for $US80.

Entry level strat type model.

Review submitted by David McGrath,GLENFIELD,New Zealand.

Sound : 5
Pickups are better than average for this grade of instrument, with the bridge pickup being the best sounding of the three on offer.Neck + middle sounded nothing special.
As I intended hotrodding this guitar when I bought it,the pickups were gonna be discarded/sold off anyway.
Have upgraded pickups + electrics to Di Marzio.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Chunky neck but excellent finish - no rough fret ends - very attractive fretboard marker dots on bass side of fingerboard...just a bit different which I like.
Tuning stability was horrendous..!! EASILY CORRECTED BY FOLLOWING THESE TWO STEPS:(a)fit a 3rd spring to tremelo/whammy bar assembly and
readjust tension
(b)replace strings ensuring plenty of string is wrapped around
tuner/machine head post e.g. for the A(5th) string,having
fitted new string thru bridge tailblock, pull the string
length full up to tuner post then measuring from the A's
post til the B(2nd) string's post prior to trimming.
Always use a string winder and top nut lubricant.

This will sort out the tuning.

Reliability/Durability : 2
This guitar is similar quality to a low end Squier.

Pewter Grey Metallic finish is not very durable -it scratches easily, requiring nail varnish/laquer touch ups.
I love the color, especially with a black pickguard/controls/new custom pickguard.(original pickups/pickguard/controls were white, even tho backplate cover was black..!!)

Note:original factory wiring loom was exceptionally tidy(10+++ rating)and the pickup cavity was fully shielded with shielding paint(10+++).

Customer Support : 10
Haven't needed...Corts should be very reliable due to their decent build quality.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing electric for 40 years, having played in originals as well as pub covers bands.
My thing is hotrodding the electronics of my guitars.I've traditionally played Fender or Tokai Strat guitars, but have taken to Cort because I like the body shape, and they are cheap, and have solid wood bodies + a great resonance, acoustically.Their cheesey oriental thin tremelo blocks sound better than the traditional, fatter original Fender design.
Cort also manufacture Paul Reed Smith SE series, which are very highly rated in UK guitar magazine reviews.
I rate Cort way above Samick.
I prefer maple fingerboards so will probably replace the neck when funds permit.Good value for the money.

Well, for this price, you can't expect any special features. Just one tone and volume control, 5 way selector, 3 single coils, a rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, a tremolo bar, things like that. I bought it as a beginner-package, which inluded a small amplifier (Laney hardcore max), a cable and some picks. It was made in Indonesia.

Sound : 8
The sound is great. I play blues, classic rock, but also metal, and this guitar can handle it all. I used to play it on a Laney hardcore max (a very small amp), and the sound was okay, but not great. Now I play it on a Roland Cube 60, and that works very good. Clean or distortion, this guitar can do it. And that with only 3 single coils! I've read other reviews saying that it isn't good for metal, I disagree with that. Maybe it's because of my great amplifier, the Roland Cube 60...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I think the guitar was well set-up at the shop, but because it was my first guitar, I didn't knew any better.
The 8th, 9th and 10th fret ??n the high E string didn't sound good, but I got that fixed already. The tuning isn't everything, it gets out of tune quite easily, especially the G string. Therefor I can't use the tremolo bar. But for the rest I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I've got this guitar for two years now, played with it live once and played a few times in a church, no problem at all. In these two years of my beginning guitar career I've played on it very much, and also very rough, but this guitar has never let me down yet and it handles all my wild playing and crazy soloing.

Customer Support : 6
Those frets got repaired when needed, so no problem about that. I also got 24 months warrenty and 10% discount so that was all very nice. But everytime I walk into that store, I have the feeling they don't take me serious. I don't understand why because I'm such a great guitarplayer and I only play for two years! But I just have that feeling. The owner of the shop is a nice guy, but he isn't always fair. He really wants to sell his product no matter what it takes! And he talkes so much, unbelieveble. But I haven't had any problems with them.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for two years, this was my very first guitar. My brother has an Ibanez, but I prefer my Cort because of the sound and playability. My guitar friends also have cheap guitars with unknown names, but my Cort G200 is definetly the best of them.
If this guitar were stolen, I don't think I will buy it again, ofcours I would cry for a day or more, but I wouldn't buy it again. Why not? Because it is a guitar for beginners, no Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster. But anyway, this is my first guitar, I've learned it all on this piece of wood, so I would never throw it away or sell it. I love this guitar, and for the cheap price it's a great deal.

This cort was made in Indonessia in 2005. It's a better looking strat copy with the tobbacco bust finish. I replaced the origanal tuners with govers because the were kinda cheap. Has a great maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and medium frets. It plays great with 22 frets and I didn't have to do any filing or truss adjustments. It has 3 single-coil pickups with 1 vol. and 1 tone. The body is made out of basswood and the the neck is maple.

Sound : 9
This guitar sounds great! I am using a 20 watt Rocktron amp and you could ask for better sound quality for the price. It can make a decent array of tones and sounds and it has great distortion. I play a lot of classic rock and blues, so this guitar meshes right in with me. It's super clean and it can put ouit some nice distortion too.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It was pretty well set up from the shop. I basically did adjustment to suit my comfort.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Cort is know for their high standards, even though they are produced overseas. I have never had a problem with my G200 yet and I don't expect to. Even the guy that runs the shop were a bought it from said that he has never had to do any quaranty work on a cort.

Customer Support : 10
I have ever had to call Cort on anything. They have a lifetime warranty thought, so that is great!

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 4 1/2 years now and this is the greatest guitar I have owned. I have owned $250 and $350 guitar and the $170 cort easly matches and even surrpasses their quality. In the past I have owned a vintage DeArmond s-65 and a Greg Bennett Avion 3. If my g200 was stolen I would probably buy a high model in their line-up, like a g265.

My chain is guitar>Keeley Comp(always on)>Ibanez Weeping Demon> Vox V810>Keeley DS-Ultra>Boss EQ>Sovtek Mig 60.

One thing before I go further: the Keeley Compressor makes any guitar sound good. Anyhow, it's basically bright, classic strat tonal territory. I'm a big fan of cascading OD and distortion pedals. Occasionally, I turn on the V810, DS-Ultra and EQ together. There's a lot of microphonic feedback if I stop playing when I use my LP smartwood and my Cort Stellar (with a lil screamin demon in the bridge). The G200 doesn't feedback in that negative way, just the cool sustaining kind of way. I can really crank the gain and this guitar is well behaved.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Bought it used and who ever had it before me really f*cked this thing up. Action was really high and the trem was set to float and to top it off, it only had 2 trem springs!? It would not stay in tune and it was absolutley impossible to play an open string and a bent note at the same time. Took it into the shop for a set up and it plays great. I've read complaints about the guitar going out of tune, but I haven't had any problems now that the bridge is pulled tight to the body. I found the strap button on the back of the upper horn kind of strange, but the guitar balances well there and is more comfortable than I thought it would be. Tuners are suprizingly smooth for a cheap guitar. I'm rating this as it is post set-up because it's not fair to the company to rate this as it was when I got it. I'm sure Cort wouldn't have jacked it up lke that.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Gigged with it once before I had it set up. It handled everything I put it through even though it wasn't set up right (well right up until I got carried away with the whammy bar). It's solid and working right, so I am not concerned.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Don't know, never dealt with them before.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 10 years. I own a Gibson LP Smartwood, an Ibanez JS100, a Cort Stellar, a couple other beaters, and this G200. The G200 is my favorite out of the bunch. I used to hate strat styled guitars, mostly because of the single coil pickups. Now I love the sound. I could have easily gotten a Mexi strat or even an American Strat, but Fender Strats are like A**holes, everyone has one. I also think they are overpriced. I really like the pickups. This guitar is an incredible value. I am happy with this guitar, I would buy another to replace it. Or I might buy one of the more high end models in the G series.

Bought used in 2005. Made in Indonesia, 22 frets. Basically a St**t copy with more modern bridge, one tone control and slightly altered shape. Unbranded Gotoh type machineheads.

Sound : 8
I've had lots of guitars over the years including 1997 American Standard Strat, Tokai VC-75 and currently a Highway I HSS Strat. This cheap Cort is amazing - only slightly different tone than the Highway one (more depth on neck pickup on the Cort!) and much nicer than the expensive American Standard I got rid of (too bright and brittle and horrible 'bell-tone' due to pickups). I play funk and 70's 80's rock and metal and the drive tone is just great- it always retains clarity but has good mids- if you like a Blackmore type sound, this guitar will do it. Lovely out of phase settings and the bridge pickup is strong.A good St**t tone to my ears. Amp wise, I'm currently using a Vox Valvetronix 120 2x12 through an Award Session Sessionette pedal and a Marshall Valvestate VS65 as a practice amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Guitar was almost as new (still had protective cellophane on scratchplate). It needed work on the back of the neck as the skunk stripe wasn't flush and the intonation needed setting at the bridge.Action highish but comfy and playable. Height of pickups well adjusted.I set the bridge flat to the body to improve intonation and tone. Frets needed dressing too.The guitar is no worse than many others when using the Whammy bar- the nut could do with a little more work. Tone control doesn't work so that will need sorting. There are some finish issues but this is basically a cheap beginners instrument so was quite acceptable. Quality of hardware and materials similar to my Yamaha RG620Z which cost ?430 2 years ago. The Cort was ?30 off EBay!

Reliability/Durability : 8
Could be used without backup guitar-after tweaking this is a good workhorse - obviously shares parts with some of the more expensive models in the range.

Playing guitar almost 20 years - am professional musician and music teacher so have guitars, saxes and clarinets around the place. If the Cort were lost I'm not sure if I'd get another but as it really is very similar sounding to my Highway 1..... I really love the Blackmore sound that I can get out of the bridge pickup - I only bought this guitar to sell on to a pupil but now I'm keeping it! If I could change something then it would be the machine heads - they operate smoothly but are cheap looking.

There's nothing really special here. It's a strat copy with a slightly modified shape. 22 frets, three off brand single coil pickups, a tone and a volume control, as well as a five way selector. Also know that the tremolo is utterly useless. There is no way to use it without the guitar going COMPLETELY out of tune. Nothing much more to say other than it's similar to a standard strat in the way of features, with one less knob.

Sound : 7
The pickups sound decent enough. Of course you're not going to get that "true" strat sound unless you buy a Fender, but these pickups do have a certain "twang" to them. They definitely aren't for metal, but seriously...is someone who's into metal gonna buy this guitar. No. They are muddier and less defined than most single coil pickups, but for the price of the guitar, it's a fairly decent replication of the strat sound. One thing about the pickups though is that they are VERY noisy. A lot noisier than Fender pickups. Again though, you get what you pay for.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Everything is put together just fine. There was nothing loose, and there was small buzz when I purchased it that the shop owner fixed while I was still there. The only reason I'm giving this an 8 score and not a 9, is that the tremolo, as stated before, is USELESS. I've never run into a more useless tremolo. In fact, it's safe to say you can just throw the bar away if you buy this guitar, because you're NEVER going to use it. However, this hasn't detracted much from my playing, because I don't like using tremolo with the blues anyway.

Overall, it's surprisingly well made, but if they could just put a better tremolo on there, it would be great.

Reliability/Durability : 5
This is something that made me a little angry. As much as I LOVE playing on a neck with no finish on it, it does NOT last long. I've already had to replace the neck, and the new one is already warping. I've had it for three years now.

Also know that it DOES NOT stay in tune well. After bends or just some hard playing, it's going to go out of tune...guaranteed. It was very frustrating for me as a beginner trying to play the blues with so many bends, when the guitar could barely handle it. To tell you the truth, this is the reason I just can't recommend this guitar to even a beginner. It just won't stay in tune. It was frustrating enough to get me to put the guitar down, which is NOT good for a beginner.

Customer Support : 7
There was no nonsense. I called, the salesperson told me where I could get a replacement neck. I went online and bought the neck. Nothing more, nothing less.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing for around four years now, and I just can't say that I liked this guitar as a beginner instrument. As a beginner, I was still ignorant to the feel and quality of a good guitar. And while you're not going to get a high quality beginners guitar, there are MUCH better guitars out there than this one.

Obviously I would not replace this guitar if it were stolen. It might cause a bit of greif becasue it was my first guitar, but I wouldn't look for it.

Simply put, if you're looking for a good beginner guitar, it would be best to look elsewhere. This one sometimes convinced me I wasn't good, and that I was sometimes playing th instrument wrong. There was a lot of frustration, which is not good for a beginning guitar player.

Year: Unknown, probably 2002 or similar
Frets: 22. Dissapointing, just short of 2 octaves.
Solid top, I think...not that I know...
Volum control, tone control, 5 way selector switch
Pickups: 3 single coil.
Finish: two-tone sunburst
Body style: Strat
Tuners - non-locking

Reviewing a guitar as cheap as this (if you are starting to play, you should really try this one out) is difficult. On one hand, you have to take into account that it IS cheap, but on the other hand that shouldn't play off against quality.

Fortunately, there isn't much wrong with this guitar. Maybe if the neck (rythym) pick-up was replaced with a humbucker, like on the X-series, and the bridge (lead) pick-up being single-coil, it would be better.
Also the lack of frets is annoying to a small degree, but not a lot of people are going to be using 2 octaves when they start out.

This guitar also features a tremelo unit, which, contrary to other reviews here, I have found DOESN'T de-tune this guiatr quickly. IT did in the first few hours when the strings weren't broken in, but after that the guitar stays in tune.

Sound : 9
Played through a Marshall MG15CD-R amp, this sounds very nice clean, especially after flicking on the amp's valve emulation. Overdriven, it's not as good, but take off O/D and throw a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal in and it is back to the good sound.
The sound on the rythym pickup could be made fuller, especially if a humbucker was used, but the lead tone is very bright.

The main style this should really be used for is lead work in rock, but is versatile enough to be used in most styles.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar was set-up perfectly, with nothing to complain about. The action is as low as it can get before buzzing, meaning fast soloing is easier to do, it was in-tune (well, at most a half-tone out) and the tremelo unit doesn't de-tune the strings.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar has been put through some very heavy use, been knocked into door frames and walls, knocked into my friend's head, and literally played to death at every oppurtunity. Not a scratch on it. No chips, dents, marks or anything. Only some dirt and fingerprints that are easily cleaned off.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed to call them yet!

Overall Rating : 9
Playing for: 1 year

Wish I had asked: nothing. Asked everything someone looking for a new guitar should. Also tried it out, letting it do the talking.

Stolen/Lost - replace? Maybe. Depends how much I get from the insurabce company, but this would certainly be an option.

What do I love? The sheer versatility of such a low-priced guitar. It's amazing quality.

What do I hate? 22 frets - almost, but not quite, 2 octaves. Why couldn't they include another 2?

Compare: Yes, to many models, including a Dean Baby Z, Epiphone Les Paul(which I turned down due to price) and other Cort models.

Wish it had: 2 more frets and locking nuts.

Cort G200 is a strat type guitar, it's the cheapest in the g-series. My Cort(new) cost only 169 euros!! It is made in Idonesia propably in 2002.

technical features are:
Scale 25 1/2"
Joint Bolt-on
Neck Hard Maple
Body Agathis
Fretboard Rosewood
Pickup neck- Powersound single-coil
middle-Powersound single-coil
bridge-Powersound single-coil
Headmachine Diecasting (Chrome)
Bridge Full-Action (Chrome)
Endpin Traditional
Fret Medium style (2.4mm x 1mm)
No.Fret 22
Fretboard width 43mm:56mm
Fretboard radius 9 1/2"
Neck depth 21mm:23mm
Position mark White dot
Electronics 1vol-1ton-5way t/g

Pickups are poor (cheapest model in this series!),
Tremolo is awful, guitar goes out of tune when you use it.
I don't like the bridge either, you have to adjust it every time after changing the strings.

Sound : 8
This guitar has the 3 single-coil pickups. Variety of sounds that you can make isn't big but the sounds are very bright and clean!!!

This guitar is great for many styles of music (like blues, rock and surf music), but I think it isn't suitable for metal or hard rock 'cause the sound isn't deep enough. If you changed the pickups it would be a different thing.

I think this guitar is at it's best when you don't use any effects, just the basic clean and beatiful sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The set up of the guitar was ok:
the pickups were adjusted well.
fit and finishing are best that you can get in this price category!!!!

The over all quality of this guitar is great, the sound is as great compared to the price, it looks great (little bit different(cooler) than normal strat), and the action is great!!, very fast and easy to play.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have only played this guitar for a one year, so I'm not the right man to speak out about it's durability..But so far it is been very reliable, and I think this guitar will last for a lifetime!

I have been playing for 7 years, I own 2 acoustics, this Cort and squer strat, and Tokai Love rock.
If this guitar was stolen or lost I wouldn't buy the same one(G200) again, I would buy the Cort G250, same series but better features.
If this guitar had better features, like the other guitars in Cort G-series it would be a winner.
