The finish on this guitar is close to orange but you can see the wood grain. The body is thinline hollow with one cut away. Looks very much like a Gretch with a wooden bridge. This is a one pick-up guitar with volume and tone control. Very simple setup. Tuners are very attractive. This Cort is made in Korea, I dont know the year it was made.

Sound : 10
My style is finger style jazz, and this guitar appealed to me before I even plugged it to an amp. This can be a very versitile guitar with a full rich sound. Acoustically it projects very well. This guitar sounds like thousands more than it's cost. You can go from bright to dark with minimal feedback as you would get with a larger body. The sound in by book is great. The only thing that I dont like is the looks, personally I would like standard "f" holes and not the tear drop looking one's that are one the J TRIGGS-1.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I did not try to set the action because I auditioned it in the store and did not buy it. Action in the store on this used instrument was very good. Looks like the hardware was starting to oxidize. Personally I would change the bridge and knobs to something more attractive. The pickup started to fade also but changing to something else might change the sound to a lesser quality. Finish was very good and guitar seems solid and sturdy.

Reliability/Durability : 10
If you take care of it it will stand the test of time. I think you can gig without a back up. Very sturdy instrument.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with Cort before and they are very helpful. I e-mailed them one day with a technical question and they e-mailed me back the next day with helpful advice.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for forty years and own too much gear to list. If I can work a deal soon I will try to buy this guitar. This is the first time I've ever seen one of these. I have comparable instruments now but this is a great guitar that I would love to have.

This is an update from my first review on 9/22/2000. What I'd like to add to the first one is that after approximately a year and countless swaps and mods I feel safe to share with you what I have found out along the way. First, this guitar is, in it's stock form, a thoroughly enjoyable instrument. I started off with the JTriggs I, which has only one pickup and one tone and volume control. Less controls appealed to me and still does. I added a Bigsby and swapped out the p-u's with DiMarzio Humbucker From Hells. They are my favorite inexpensive p-u now after living with them for a while. In this guitar they capture the closest tone I've heard to a Gretsch 6120. That's not to say you couldn't achieve "THE" tone with a set of TV Jones.com p-u's installed but I got extremely close for less that half the price!. A set of non locking Sperzels stopped any and all tuning problems dead in it's tracts. Lastly, I did install a tune-o-matic bridge to it using the original rosewood base. It looks good!. The last project I'm going to do on this guitar is sand off the top to wood and restain it orange and spray it out with lacquer. I don't know if this will help the guitar breath or not as it's a laminated ply top but it can't hurt.

Gripes?.....ya, I have one. I'm all for free enterprise and catitalizm but the prices for the so called top of the line brand names, even if they are manufactured in the same plant, make me wonder what some are thinking. Would I love to own a Gretsch Setzer hot rod?...you bet!. Would I buy one even if I could afford one?........Probably not after obtaining the tones I have uncovered in so called lesser "quality" guitars. Electric guitars are like Harleys and tattoo's. They are fun to customize to suit your likes and personalities. Don't rob yourself of the fun.

My suggestion to anyone who's wanting that '50's tone on a budget, (ugly word, budget), is to pick up a Cort JTriggs ll and swap out the p-u's with DiMarzios and enjoy a superb guitar that sounds so close to the real deal it will put a grin on your face from ear to ear for under $775. About $900 if you treat yourself to TV Jones Filtertons. With the money you save go pick up a decent echo pedal. "DONE!".

This guitar is a hollowbody,( 16"), single cutaway, single pickup, with two controls, one tone and one volume. It's Orange and has a wooden set bridge.

Sound : 10
I picked this guitar up because I wanted a Gretsch-esk type axe but didn't have the moola to send on the name. I play rockabilly, rock, and blues and this instrument is well sooted for jazz as well. I plug it into a custom Mission tube amp and run an echo pedal through it with super results. You get that feedback sound hollowbodies are know for but it's easy to control. I changed out the adaquate sounding humbucker that came on it for a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell to get a single coil sound and added a Bigsby tailpiece. You can buy a Cort with two HB's and a Bigsby clone whammy but the hardware is gold and you have two extra controls. I have not one dislike about this purchase other than Cort does not make a hardshell case for it. I picked up an aftermarket case for a 335 that fits it like a glove.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
My JTriggs needed no set-up and I am continually amazed at the fit and finish of this guitar. Korea is doing some fine work over there. Mine was flawless, and everyone who see's it and plays it, likes it and are impressed as well.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is my first hollowbody guitar but I can't see why it would not be fine for any use called upon it that I would expect from my Strat.I would not hesitate to gig with this guitar and plan to do just that.

Never dealt with the company, I'm not even sure if it has a warranty but I'm not too concerned.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 20+ years and have owned plenty of gear in that span. I always wanted something like the JTriggs and find I play it all the time now. That's what an instrument should evoke from it's owner. I'm tickled with it and would need to replace it if something happened to it. I have to play quietly late at night as it projects and resonates almost as loud as an acoustic and will wake the family. Not too shabby for a thin hollowbody.Take the time to find a store that carries Cort and check them out. You'll be impressed .
