I bought this guitar in 1980 I'm not sure when it was made Daion mugen Mk V. The sound is great and its durabilty fantastic. My brothers 2 year old Martin at 800 bucks has fallen apart but my 25 year old daion keeps on playing. All that hear it love its full rich sound. I remember spending hours in the store playing many guitars and coming back to this one.I don't know what its worth today but I would never sell it.

The Co. out of business as far as I know. About 20 years ago the bridge seperated from the body used an alphatice[excuse the spelling powdered resin ya mix with water]and its been fine ever since.

This is a six string dreadnought I bought around 1980. I'm adding a review since its tough to find any info on these instruments and I thought I'd share.

They were made in Japan from 1978 - 1984(?) at the Terada factory - same place that now makes the Epiphone Elitist series, I believe. They were a well made, good quality guitar that compared extremely well to anything in their price range. Unfortunately, they went under in the early 80's and there is very little info available on them.

Solid cedar top
Rosewood back and sides
Mahogany neck with diamond cut
Bone nut and saddle
Rosewood fingerboard with maple dot position main positions
Shaped Rosewood bridge
Rosewood faced headstock
Rosewood headstock facing with hand-carved inlay
Herring-bone purfling around the top
Double herring-bone mosaic sound hole purfling
Ivory celluloid bound fingerboard and body
Original shape Rosewood undercoated pick guard
High quality individual machine heads
Chrome-plated rotomatic-style machine heads

Not much else you could want in an acoustic. I give it an 8 because of the laminated sides and back.

I play lots of different styles - contemporary, oldies, folk, rock, jazz. It doesn't suit the latter too well, but for everything else it performs admirably.

The cedar top gives it a warm tone. It has a pretty full sound but is not a particularly loud instrument. It's not as lively, or woody sounding as an all solid wood guitar, but still has lots of prescence. I played alongside a twelve string for years and it held its own admirably.

This is the strength of this guitar. For about $500 (at the time) it was head and shoulders above anything else in its category. The finish was immaculate and the detail work outstanding. The rosewood headstock, pickguard and bridge are indications of the high quality materials that went into it. Even today it looks better than a lot of much more expensive guitars.

The action is a bit high by today's standards, although it plays easily. The neck is somewhat beefy and very comfortable. Tuning heads are sealed with the Daoin logo on them. They've remained solid and problem free. About the only blemish I've ever found on it was a small gap in the binding, near the nut, that had been filled with glue.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a tank. I played it hard for twenty years. On stage, on road trips, beaches, planes, trains and autombiles. There are the expected scratches and a few small dings, but not an age-related crack or blemish to be seen. A tribute to the workmanship.

It's now my backup guitar, since I bought a Taylor a few years ago. I'm betting it will outlast its new brother!

Never dealt with them and, considering they're long gone, never will.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for alomst 30 years. My other guitars are currently a Taylor 310 and an Epiphone Casino Elitist.

I'd have a hard time replacing this guitar if I ever lost it as they're extremely hard to find. Truth be told, I'd miss it for its sentimental value more than anything. That said, if you get the chance I would recommend buying one of these in a minute. They'd make a great guitar for a casual player or starviung musician who wants quality without shelling out for a premium instrument, or a dependable backup for a pro.
