Made in Japan, and judging by the 82 stamped on the label under the soundhole I would say ......... made in 1982. Cost me 200 quid.
Not sure of the wood, looked like cedar but from other comments may well have been rosewood. Brass nut, brass bridge. Yep slightly tinny sound at times but replaced bridge with plastic one and was OK)
There were a bunch of 'cool guys' in the town I lived in the early eighties and the two coolest both had these guitars. I had owned a number of fairly poor quality guitars before and I was stunned by the tone, beautiful appearance (I thought they were custom built instruments) and yes, coolness. I had to have one.

This was the guitar I learnt to play on (before was just a couple of chords out of the Beatles Complete). I played mainly Neil Young type stuff and the sound was perfect- quite bright at the top end and warm but twangy at the bottom end. You could really hear the 'zing' on the strings at times. I also used a soundhole (Schaller) pickup and thru an old transistor amp with a little reverb it sounded fabulous.
I cant seriously think of any dislikes.

The prettiest thing - looked like it cost thousands of pounds. So many times people asked me where I had got it made and would I sell it. There were no flaws in the workmanship at all.
Action was a little high for me tho.

I would never have gigged with this guitar because I didnt want it to get damaged. I really pampered it. There were people I knoew that had one of these and played it until, quite literally the lacquer came off so I guess that it isnt suited for really industrial use.

Sold the guitar about 14 years ago - the dumbest thing I have ever done! I was short of cash and not playing much and it seemed like the thing to do. I will never be able to replace it - you just dont see them, if I saw one though I would pounce on it. Friends i see from the old days often say: Aaaaah I rememeber that old Daion you used to have - lovely guitar.
I now have an '84 custom shop Strat which I play through a Marshall DSL tube amp. I have a cheap Tanglewood accoustic which is nowhere near the Daion.
The Daion is a truly unique guitar - unmistakable looks, lovely sound - see one, buy it!

Daion Model 82 jumbo, when i first saw this guitar hanging in a local store, I thought it was a custom made guitar by one of those high priced independant makers. I had never seen or heard of this company before, but after playing it i bought it on the spot. It looks brand new and the sound is very good as good as my 1966 d-18 or 1969 j-50. From what i found out, daion was only in business from 1978 to 1982. This model was only made in 1982,so it is rare.

Sounds great, solid cedar top the brouchure says rosewood family back and sides. It looks like honduran rosewood i once saw on a guitar.

If you can find one get it. It says be critical on these reviews but i honestly can,t say anything bad about this guitar. Some people would not like the solid brass nut and saddle. But i think it sounds good.

"The 82" was produced only one year by the defunct Daion instrument co. in Japan. I was trained as a luthier by Taylor guitars in San Diego Calif in 1972. My 82 Daion is every bit as voicy and clear as many Taylor guitars I have played. They were built with quality materials, and pride of workmanship. My Jumbo is very playable, except for the narrow nut string-slot placement, which tends to crowd a players fingers, especially a player with large hands. The original nut and saddle were brass, and tend to add a "tinney" sound to an already deep tone at the bass end. Solid spruce top, matched, very straight-grained rosewood back and sides, nato one piece mahogany neck, trussrod, brass position markers, quality tuning machines, enclosed. I replaced the brass saddle with bone and solved my problem. The construction methods used are very-good to excellent, I value this instrument at at least $1,300.00 if I were to sell it.

I set my action, and am very happy with the factory neck-cant, as well as the bridge placement and thickness. The german-siver frets are wide enough to satisfy my playing needs as a finger-stylist. Intonation is very acceptable, as is head design and over-all balance.

This is a fine instrument, equal to anything I have played in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. It is fun to play, and rewards the player with warm and balanced tones.

This guitar was made in 1982 (obviosly) in Japan. It is a jumbo style guitar (16 1/2 inch which makes it hard to find a case for). It has a red reverse-like sunburst. The top is some kind of cedar and the back and sides are rosewood. I don't know if the wood is laminate or solid. I have installed a L.R. Baggs dual source system and it works really nice with the guitar. It has a brass nut and saddle but I replaced the saddle with some other material (I forget the name)to give it more warmth when amplified.

I play worship music at church through a California Blonde and this guitar rocks. It has such a balanced sound all the way down the fretboard. It sounds a lot like a Taylor to me. The bass is really tight in it and the highs are crisp, like I said super balanced.I own another Daion that I bought 8 years ago and it sounds great too but the neck is a little bowed and I can't adjust it any more.

I bought the guitar used and the action was perfect when I got it. The finish on the guitar is awesome - like it was made with pride.

This guitar has been around 20 yrs and it's going strong. Not one single problem with it. I can't see why it wouldn't last another 20 years.

I've owned an Ovation an Epiphone another Daion and this one. I like this gutar a lot. You would have to give me $1500 to get it away from me. THe balanced sound is what I like about it. I wish Daion were still around. I would buy everything from them. If I lost this I couldn't replace it. I would cry for a long time!
