2000 Korean built Dano 6/12 with no mods so as described by others below when I picked it up a year ago on EBAY. No accessories, so I'm still looking for a suitable case that won't cost me an arm and a leg.
Came set up pretty well but needed some mods to be just right.

Sound : 9
12 string side is Great as is. Used in a Fender CyberTwin it can fill up any venue with rich tones on the right setting. Very bright in clean mode. 6 string side needed a brige change out to accomodate a better intonation. I replaced with a Fender hardtail style bridge with both top and through body stringin options so I can choose to drill out the body and add string ferrels later, but am not forced to yet.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Action was a bit high on the 6 string side bt that has been fixed. Plays great with 10s. I pulled off the binding tape and removed the glue residue with goof-off/gue-off (Wall Mart paint section).
IMO the white sparkle finish looks much cleaner without the cheesy tape binding. I've also replaced the neck selector toggle switch with a three way toggle switch so that I can choose both necks/pickup sets to be on at the same time. The replacement toggle switch is a 4 pole 3 way switch which is pricey and hard to find (most likely why it was not done by the factory) because of the way they chose to wire the pickups.
I've added a star patterned veneer top (1/42 inch additional thickness that has not affected the tone of the masonite top) to the guitar with a light tint on the quilted maple pattern. Coverd that with a few coats of polyurethane for a one of a kind look to this Dano.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I play this guitar in a church band every weekend and back it up with a fender strat. Very durable and holds up fine. The strap buttons my loosen over time but have been fine to date. I change the strings out every couple of months and with a small dab of vaseline in the nut slots have not had a string break on this guitar. The input jack has worked itself loose a couple of times but nothing a screwdriver and pliers has not quickly been able to remedy.

Customer Support : 1
Tried to get some customer support via phone and email with no response from Danelectro or their suggested partner for repair. This is when I was looking for a bridge replacment and a replacment 6 string neck as I was seeing some separation at the gluejoint were they attach the headstock to get the headstock angle with minimal wood expense. Don't count on any help from Dano once you buy their equipment. In short, Dano support sucks.

Overall Rating : 9
I've played guitar for over 30 years. Own many guitars, mostly fender strats, a 335 for jazz/blues, Yamaha accoustics, and my first guitar a Kent classical from the 70's. The Dano fills my 12 string electric needs and is a lot of fun. With my mods I don't think I'd be willing to replace it and go through the trouble of getting the replacment to where mine is now. In fact, I may swap the position of the 12 and 6 string necks so that the 12 is on the bottom. That would require drilling out the holes for the string-through on the bottom section of the body and adding string ferrels there. So my replacment would probly be a custom that had the 12 string on the bottom to start. I'm sure it would cost 4 or 5 times what I have into the Dano however.

low priced Korean-made 6/12 string. Scale seems to be about 25 1/4" on both necks (maple).Gotoh tuners work very well.

Sound : 9
The 12 string sound is wonderful. Bridge pickup has a great clean, cutting tone, and you can warm it up by adding more neck pickup. Tone controls aren't the best, but functional. The 6 string part has an identical 2 lipstick pickup configuration with good funky Danelectro tones. Not Fender or Gibson, but just as good in it's unique way. More versitile than you might think.
These are not high output pickups. I use a Danelectro "fish & chips" graphic eq pedal to boost the output a bit to match my other stage guitars. (no e.q. is added, I just use the volume slider on the pedal, or a MXR micro amp does the same thing)This slight volume boost gives me a better distorted sound through my amp (Bogner Shiva) so I don't have to adjust the amp every time I switch guitars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Purchased used, setup on both necks very good. This is a well made cheap guitar. If you know what you're doing, you should be able to get the action adjusted perfectly. Moving the pickups closer to the strings helps.
Very nice sparkle white finish, with cheezy plastic around the edges. Hardware very good quality. All metal bridge on the 12 string. The 6 string has the original wood and metal style. It works.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Seems like it will withstand a lot of gigging. Very solid feel to the instrument, despite it's plywood and masonite construction. Stays in tune very well, considering it has 18 strings! This model comes with metal strap buttons. I find it (not surprisingly) to be uncomfortably neck-heavy when using a strap. So attach one end of the strap to the head of the 12 string, and it balances 100% better. The downside to this is that it puts a little more pull on the neck which can change the tuning. So I always tune the 12 string in the position (sitting or standing) that I'm going to be playing in and there's no problem. I never gig without a backup, but I think that this guitar is reliable.

Been playing over 30 years, have had many good guitars. This one is a favorite. It has all the things I liked about a real vintage Dano, but it's not quite as crappy! And it has a truss rod. The 12 string tone is a good as any I've heard, and the neck and action are first rate. Even sounds good unplugged! The concentric volume/tone controls are frustrating and wierd. But it would be easy to rewire. Bought this for live stage work...it looks cool!

The model I own was made in 1999 in korea. It has the typical stove top type knobs used on the old danos - which i have not yet experienced any problems. It has gotoh tuners whih i am very impressed with. When i first played the 12 string side it was in tune. The six string would stay in tune better if it werent for that bridge everyone complains about.. but the intonation is very good so i really cant complain. the thing didnt come with a case so i will be out about $200 but i have too many nice guitars without cases.

Sound : 10
I play a blend of jazz/classical/rock(9 years) and the twelve string gets mandolin and harsichord type sounds. I purchased a DOD Iceit Amp a week before this from the same pawn shop for $50 and the two are a beautiful combination especially w/ the amps built in chorus and spring reverb. i also use seperate delay, danelecrto fabtone, pepperoni phaser, but the wakiest sounds come out when used with a chili dog octave and shift daddy. the pickups arent as noisy as most single coils. Oh and i must mention when playing the 12 string with just the 6 string pickups on you get weird sympathetic vibrations.. to me the possibilities are endless with this one.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I got this used-but not abused. the twelve strings action is perfect.
I think danelectro was trying to make the six string as much like an old silvertone as possible. But ive played old models that were impossible to keep in tune. No real finish scrathes or dents. the color is the blak burst and i havent had any problems with the tape wanting to come off..yet.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Im not sure id take this out in public yet. I live in Memphis and unless you play on Beale theres some unwritten rule where any technial ability is frowned upon.. im not the type to play rock star anyway. the knobs seem like the first thing ill have a problem with. strap buttons seem sturdy enuff if i did gig id probly sit down with it.. Im pretty sure ill have this guitar 50 years from now (ill be 69).

I've been playing nine years (sine i was 10). I own almost twenty guitars and this is my second danelectro i also own the hearsay. I own almost all of the mini pedals . If it were lost or stolen someone might get shot or severely beat. I do wish it had a flux capacitor for time travel .

Made sometime within the last couple of year in Korea, land of the crappy car. 42 frets divided equally between two maple necks capped with a rosewood fretboard. Two very odd concentric volume/tone knobs, with a switch to select between the two passive lipstick tube pickups on either the 6 or 12 string sides. There is also a switch to select whick neck you want to use, but you can't use both the same time. The body is white-sparkly colored double cutaway style masonite with a plywood frame. The bridge on the 12 string side is a nice, tunable piece of work, while the 6 string side is a piece of shit. Nice grover tuners.

Sound : 6
The six string side could use a bridge upgrade. Allparts sells a replacement for $50, but it's not listed on their website. It sounds very twangy and is usable but with a better solution available that can be bolted on, why not make is the best it can be? The 12 string side is very nice sounding...full and warm. Both sides are very nice to play unplugged with good projection. There is some buzzing on the 6 string side around the 10th fret...a bit of a bummer, but I got it so cheap I can't complain...much.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Can't comment on the factory setup...I bought it used.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I don't play live, so I don't care. However, everything is nice and sturdy and I have no doubts it will last for decades.

This guitar is so much fun that it's hard to play it without a smile on your face. I chose it because I wanted something different in my stable of guitars, and this is certainly different! If it were stolen I would probably look for another for the same price then give up in disgust. I wish it had a better 6 string bridge...it's really really bad.

This Guitar is loaded. It is a 2000 danelectro doubleneck, made in korea. Each neck has 21 frets, two lipstick pickups on each neck, it has two dual knobs, a pickup toggle, and a 3 way neck selector. The twelve string bridge is built like fort knox, but the six string bridge looks a little cheap. The finish is black burst. I got it on Ebay for 350 with a hard tweed case.

Sound : 10
These pick ups will play ANYTHING and Everything really great. I played Jazz, blues, classic rock, alternitive, punk, and metal. This thing will pump out any sound you want. the pick ups are very versitile.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action is very nice, it is set where anyone would be happy with it. I picked it up and started playing stairway, and got to the solo, flipped down to the 6 string, and was amazed at how my fingers just eased up and down the neck.

Reliability/Durability : 10
The guitar is quite heavy, i dont think i could make it through an hour set. It could take quite a beating. It has two necks so i wouldnt need a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion
have not delt with them yet

The 12 string has a hard time keeping tune, but overall the guitar is great, i would buy another if i had the money. It is a beautiful guitar

This thing was probably made in 1999, Korean, white sparkle finish, maple necks, ; the 12 string bridge is GREAT; the 6 string bridge is a piece of SH%$^, but I found a way to work around it ( take it apart and rebuild it). Body is like my mothers old kitchen table cut into the shape of a doubleneck, tuners are ok ; use 10's on the 6 string, tuning is better. 12 string neck is nice and long, 6 string seems about standard. No case or accessories - GOOD LUCK finding a case for it.

The pickups are good - the adjustment knobs ( on Danelectros ) ae screwy at first - if you play Fender or Gibson stuff, this thing will throw you. Once you get used to them, they're not bad.

Sound : 7
I'll start with the 6 string. It sounds good, but only after I TOOK THE FRIGGIN BRIDGE APART, REMOUNTED IT, READJUSTED IT FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS, AND PUT 10's ON IT. THIS BRIDGE WILL ROYALLY PISS YOU OFF!!!!
After all that, the sound is pretty good.

The 12 string side sounds WONDERFUL!!. Thats the main reason I bought it. It can sound like anything from a mandolin to a dark 12 - depending how you play it. Very rich sound - my wife would kill me if I sold this guitar, just for the 12 string side.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
12 string action was perfect; yin-yang, 6 string action was HORRIBLE!!! DANO--- put something besides a piece of steel and a woodchip under those strings. Seriously, if I look at another one of their models and see that bridge, no matter how good it sounds and no matter how good the deal -- I WOULDN"T BUY IT -- HEAR ME.

Otherwise, the finish is good. You lost me on that 6 string bridge that I REBUILT>

Reliability/Durability : 6
This guitar won't take a beating. Play a few cuts, pick up your Gibson. The hardware seems OK (except for ...you already heard it). I've heard the strap buttons will give out, but i don't know. I don't know if it's dependable, I haven't had occasion to take it out.

Overall, seems a little flimsey bodywise - but I can only hope for better.

Customer Support : 1
I sent DANELECTRO an e-mail about a crack in one of the pickguards. They never responded. I guess that answers it. Warranty??You ain't got no friggin warranty!!!!

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing for 25+ years, own a load of other quality guitars. The only reason I looked at this model was I didn't own a twelve string, and a doubleneck was a kick. I'm happy to say that I love the twelve, and I hope my luthier work on the 6 side holds up. I play jazz/rock, so my left hand alone can wear on a guitar. If it were stolen or lost, i'd go get a Fender(SLASH) double; I've said this in other reviews - THIS GUITAR AIN"T WORTH ANYWHERE NEAR RETAIL!!!!! if you can practicaly steal it, the 6 side will still piss you off.

One last thing; I bought a YAMAHA keyboard case and some 3 inch foam from Popular Outfitters and made my own case. Cost me about $40. They will rape you on a case ( $120+ ) if one can be found.

I've written alot of guitar and bass reviews for Harmony-Central, and this is my most scathing so far. And there's a reason for that.....

Typical Dano features. Two pickups per neck. Pickup switch contools both necks. Two way neck switch. No middle position for both necks on. Gotoh tuners. Metal intonatable bridge for twelve string. Cheesy rosewood bridge saddle for 6 string side.
I have learned that Allparts Inc. is now offering a retrofit tunable bridge to replace these rosewood bridges. Good news.
A very well built guitar for a Korean cheapie.

Sound : 10
Great clean clear sound on the 12 string side. Beautiful. Lots of compliments on this. Six string side not bad either, but will improve once I get replace that $&%# wood bridge. You can get different tones from these by running both pickups and using the neck pickup volume to vary the blend. Adjust the bridge pickup height as far up as you can. Also use the bridge pickup tone to fatten up the sound. these tone controls are less than perfect, but if you find the spot where it just starts to darken the sound, it works well.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Fit and finish are amazing for a cheap guitar. I have a 12 string Dano as well and the neck on that one is thicker than either neck on the double neck. I'm used to the thinner necks (which I prefer) now, so when I play the 12 string it feels weird. Neck widths are great. A little on the wide side, which makes it especially nice for the 12 string side.
Action needed a little tweaking, particularily on the 6 string side. A couple of neck adjustments (no samll feat considering you have to remove the neck)and some height adjustment on the bridge. I should be able to make it pretty sweet when I get rid of that $%&*# wood bridge. Intonation on the 6 string side was amazingly close considering the lack of adjustability of that $%&* wood bridge saddle.
Finish is perfect. Beautiful white sparkle. Cheesy tape binding is on there good. On my 12 string it started to come loose by the neck joints so I took it off. The guitar looks better like this, but it's a messy job to get the adhesive off. Lots of "Goof Off" paint remover.
I must say that the balance of this guitar is very good. I expected it to be much more neck heavy, but it isn't bad at all. The overall weight is good too. Probably no heavier than a Les Paul.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've had my twelve string for almost a year with no problems, and I expect the double neck to be equally as reliable. At least they put metal screw in strap pins on these.

Customer Support : 10
I have e-mailed questions to Danelectro and they always respond within a few days.
Never had any need to deal with them for repair.

Overall Rating : 10
Again, these are very well built for an inexpensive import. Of course you can't compare it to the expensive American guitars, but they can't be had for $400 (or less) either. plus it sounds wonderful.
Good balance and not too heavy. What more could you ask for in a double neck?

2000 Korea made white double neck (refer to the other reviews for specs). Excellent build, except for the DC59 bridge (am currently searching for DC-3 based bridges to replace). Metal string pins are definately better than the plastic ones that come with the DC-3s. The features and the tonal controls you get from this guitar are enough for a blues/country/folk based guitarist, however, would have been better if the neck selector switch had a "both necks" position.

Sound : 9
I play a mostly blues rock/country style (Stones during the "Let it Bleed" era type music), and each of the necks sound fine through a Roland JC amp. The tones are a bit bright, especially on the 12 string neck, but I personally prefer a bright neck sound, so, no problems there. The only problem I have is that due to the "wooden bridge" on the 6 string neck, the necks sound very different. The 12 is brighter, and the 6 is a bit more "mushy". Although the necks are fine when used independently, the switch over needs some added E.Q. to make them "continuous".

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I had the action adjusted before I bought it so, I can't comment.
The finish is great. White sparkle colors with brown binding tape. The neck is sand finished, and very smooth.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The wooden 6 string bridge is of the only concern here. It feels like it will get scratched up with some heavy vibrato.
I bought the 6/12 as a backup to my DC-3 and Gibson LP Junior, and cannot imagine doing a gig without the services of those two guitars. However, considering that this guitar is not as heavy as some guitars (even my Gibson Firebrand...), I could probably get through a gig without a backup (although for obvious reasons such as breaking strings, I don't play without backups).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 15 years, and this is the first double neck that I have owned. I prefer Gibsons LP Juniors and Fender Teles, but since I bought a DC-3 last year, I have fallen in love with danos. Although I will not trade in my LPJ or Gibson Firebrand to buy this guitar, I definately feel this is worth the price paid, and would most likely buy another one if this one was stolen or lost.

New 1999 model made in Korea. Very nice dark sparkle blue finish with cheap looking tape binding on the body edge. Body is the typical Dano hollowbody. Stacked plastic tone/volume knobs. bolt-on 6 string and 12 string maple doublenecks with Gotoh tuners. Rosewood fingerboards 22 frets. 2 lipstick pickups for each neck each side with three way selection. Pickup and neck switches. Basic stuff nothing fancy here. I do agree with the other review above about the bridges being different for the 12 string and 6 string. Should have used the same bridge but it is no big deal for me.

Sound : 9
This is the first Dano I have owned and was intriged by all the glowing reviews given to the Dano guitar line. I had been wanting a doubleneck for awhile and could'nt pass this up when I saw the price. Acoustically the sound is pretty decent. Plugged in this puppy is very sweet. Plugged into a Mesa Boogie Rocket 44 and Peavy Audition. Sounded good through both expecially the Boogie. There is some pickup noise but I was suprised how little it was especially from single coils. The twelve string has nice presence and jangle especially through a Dano Cool Cat Chorus box which I have. Great sound. Same with the 6 string side. It is really a nice little combo. Much fuller sound with both pickups on. I was even able to get some mellow jazz sound from the neck pickups. Cranked up with distortion the guitar sounds pretty good but too much and it turns to mud. This guitar really shines in the clean setting. Overall it has a very vintage vibe and sound to it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very impressed with the overall setup. Action and setup was good out of the box. Don't think I will have to adjust anything. Sparkle blue finish is excellent. Very cool. Not a problem in sight. Fretwork is excellent and intonation fine. The white tape binding is a little cheesy but, hey, it's a Dano. Bare maple necks could have been finished a little better but not bad. Also one of the stacked tone/volume knobs sticks so when you rotate one knob the other rotates as well. A hassle but I can probably fix it. For a guitar this cheap I could'nt have asked for a better overall setup. I have had much more expensive guitars that have'nt been set up this nicely.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I think this guitar could stand up pretty well to gigging. Hardware seems very solid. I typically sit down when I play so can't say if the strap buttons would hold but they seem heavy duty. For a doubleneck this one seems fairly lightweight. Not the most comfortable guitar to play because of its size but you get two guitars in one package so there is the tradeoff. I really like this guitar.

Overall Rating : 10
Danos are known for there great sound and vintage appeal at an outrageously cheap price and this one is no exception. You just gotta get one of these. It's too good a guitar at a low cost not to. I own many guitars- from top of the line to budget ones like this Dano. This one definetly finds a home with them.

Hey, it's a Dano....features aren't the main strength! DC-59 style 6 and 12 string doubleneck. Uses the same basic construction as the other instruments, so I won't belabor the points.
Of note, the 12 string neck uses the same hardware as the 12 string DC, which includes a fully adjustable bridge for intonation. So why, then, did they use the crappy NON-adjustable bridge from the DC-59 on the 6 string neck, and not the comparable adjustable model from the DC-3?
Dano has improved upon the plastic push-in strap buttons, and gone with the metal screw in type.
Controls include a three way pickup selector, stacked volume and tone for each pickup (bridge or neck, regardless of which neck the pickup is on), and a two-way neck selector. Not sure why they didn't allow both necks simulatneously.
The output jack is side mounted, rather than top mounted like other Dano's.
Other than that, typical of other Dano's.
As a design note, the necks seem to be closer together than on most other doublenecks. Some might need to get used to this, as your wrist may hit the 6 string neck while playing the 12 string neck. Nothing terrible, but may be a pain to larger players.

Sound : 7
This sounds very similar to other Dano's. The pickups are clear and strong, albeit stronger with both pickups on.
The 12 string, in particular, sounds nice with a slight overdrive. It has some of the sparkle and jangle from old Byrds songs.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I consider this one to be typical of Dano's. Not in the same league as Anderson or PRS, but not really that bad for what you get. The action was set to a respectable level, and there weren't any buzzes. All of the controls seemed to move smoothly, and no crackle or dead spots.
The rest of the instrument was constructed to regular Danelecto standards.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Thankfully, Danelectro already addressed the strap button issue on this model. Compared to other doublenecks, this one is a bit lighter and might be easier to handle for longer sets.
I might have some concerns on it''s durability for heavy duty slapping around, but considering the price you pay, it''s in line with expecta
