Anyone playing guitar for more than a year knows about Danelectros. I have 38 years of playing time and I owned (for a short time back in 1969)a longhorn 6 bass. I got rid of it because the neck was too narrow for bass playing, and Baritones did not become useful until much later. But what I am about to say is more of a comment on guitars in general, Dano in general and the DC2 to lesser degree. First off, to those who bemoan the fact that Nathan Daniel is not makaing the newer Danos I say neither is Leo making Fenders, nor is Orville making Gibsons. Nuff said on that. To those of us who fell victim to the "39 flavors of guitars"-syndrom of the past 35 years let me say that Dano is a breath of fresh air. Whether you buy a vintage one from the 50's, 60's or the first reissues of the '90s or one of the Pro56's of today. They all pretty much stack up the same. Even if you play a Jerry Jones (I owned one a while back) these also bring on the Dano Vibe...even if they are a little sturdier but highly overpriced. You see playing into this con for as long as I did....caused me at times to become sick and tired of the whole game...even playing the guitar became part of this malady. Now over the years I have owned many, many of the creama of the crop, for instance: 1 1962 Esquire that I paid $250 for in 1970 upon purchase of it the seller told me he paid $65 at a garage sale...who knew....wich I had it now....continuing: several early 60's rosewood necked Strats; a 1959 Les Paul TV Special, a 1969 Les Paul Custom; a '68 tele (in '68); a 1967 ES 335 sunburst; A Guild Duane Eddy; A Gibson ES125TDC; a '58 Strat; a couple of mid-60's Jaguars and Jazzmasters; a 1968 SG Std; and the list goes on and on and on....get my point? It is a sickness....but lo and behold I am now playing in a band with some old friends from my first band, Dreamland Choo Choo (go to MYFIRSTBAND.COM for info)...having the most fun in a while and playing only one guitar....I got rid of the others (not the vintage ones mentioned...they were gone as fast as I got'em....junkied them one by one........)....I got rid of the Squires and the Ibanez's I was playing recently...(I cannot afford to buy the guitars I once bought as a young man)....and with my lonely and lowly (but oh so sweet sounding and easy playing) '99 Dano DC2....I am having the best time ever.....it may not be the most sturdy guitar...but it will last.....just baby it....the neck is a strong as any Fender out there....the body is flimsy...but functional....I paid $89 for mine just a month ago......it was used of course but I cleaned it up....copper shielded the cavity and the underneath of the guard.....and it is one of the best SOUNDING...AND I FEEL LOOKING GUITARS I HAVE EVER OWNED...I will keep this one.....hell, for $89...why not???????
