Review is for a 2009 Danelectro Deaed On 67. Basswood body 21 frets maple neck rosewood fretboard. 2 Passive Lipstick pickups 2 vol and 2 tone controls. Also included is Danelectros Whammy Bar state of the art for 1961. No case included but bought one with it. Satin finish on everything even the hardware.
Very clean guitar good fit and excellent finish

Sound : 10
This thing sounds great. It's not a heavy metal axe by any means. If this is what you want try an Ibanez.
The controls can get the "Underwater" Chet Atkins sound "MUD" or be bright and twangy.
My guitar sounds much like the last few Los Straitjackets albums. The whammy bar is strictly 1960s sounds...No Dive Bomb Antics. That's why I bought it. Guitar is pretty quiet but does have the single coil hum, just like my more expensive Fenders too.
I play in a classic rock/oldies band. This guitar sounds like many old records I have from the 50s and 60s

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I spent 3 minutes of minor adjustments and it was gig ready. I have spent over a grand for a fender and had to dismantle the entire guitar. This Danelectro was nice out of the box...It's Perfect Now. All hardware was tight and solid. Paint is good no thin spots or runs. Fretwork is EXCELLENT all even not sharp fret edges. Why can't Gibson Do this

Reliability/Durability : 10
Guitars are objects treat them well they will last a life time. I have a 1959 Danelectro that still is perfectly playable and gig ready. I could use this as my only guitar and be happy.
I have been a danelectro customer for 10 years they have treated me very well.
The hard ware is a dull finish...No Rust....Everything was tight and alligned. This guitar will last just fine

Customer Support : 10
I called their 1-800 number. They called back gave me dealer info and phone numbers. AND thanked me for my interest.
I have 11 Danelectros so I am biased about them. I'm a working musician, I have guys wanted to buy some of my "Rare" 1999-2000 Models. I like their guitars. With the economy being as it is, Playing in a band is a supliment to my income. You could call my place. "The House that Dano Built"
I'm not a kid but not an old fart either. If I want heavy metal I have a pedal for it. I like a clean or slighly broken up sound.

I told my bandmate When I buy a Fender guitar I GET my Money's worth. When I get a Dano I get MORE THAN MY MONEY'S WORTH.
I've been playing for 35 years and own WAY too much equipment

Overall Rating : 10
Been Playing A long time, could have gigged on the Titanic if I wanted.
I wanted this guitar as soon as I saw it, A friend of mine's dad years ago had a Coral Hornet...COOL GUITAR.

It has everything I need.

Guitar is not a heavy metal axe for beginners so buy something else.

Guitar is great...I'm a repeat customer and nice company to deal with

New 2009 Model. All guitar features are an easy web search away. That said, it has a nice, light body, a versatile pickup/tone arrangement, and a tremelo bar that--while not amazing--is a nice touch. Only warning is that this guitar falls down/slips when positioned upright against a flat source, so just have it lean in a corner or in some fashion so it won't fall. On your lap, though, it feels great.

Sound : 8
My musical styles are punk, post-punk, post-hardcore, hardcore, indie, alternative. I realize this guitar won't handle all styles, but for a solid "rock" guitar capable of dishing out some decent edginess it's good. I was moderately concerned this one would have a tinny sound, but no--it's balanced, cutting, versatile in its own right.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Factory set-up wasn't too great, but whatever. The strings that came with sucked, the action was "eh," and I wasn't happy with the bridge. After truss rod adjustment, bridge adjustment, and new strings it plays great. Action is slick and fast. Fretwork is fairly top-notch. If you don't like the factory set-up just fix it yourself or take it to a guitar tech. I was a bit bummed at some lackluster workmanship here and there -- one tuning knob was slightly loose, a tone control cover wasn't on as tight as the others, and upon close examination it's clear this isn't a G&L, but hey for 350 it's pretty darn great overall.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
No idea how durable it'll turn out to be -- only had it about two weeks. It SEEMS like it couldn't take much of a beating, but I can't really say.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Danelectro

Overall Rating : 8
I've played mainly bass guitar for 10+ years and wanted a guitar with a somewhat versatile, yet unique sound, very comfortable/accessible/quick playability, and for it to look super-cool. And the Danelectro delivers very well in those ways. If I wanted something amazing I would buy something amazing. You get what you pay for and for 350 this--to me--is a very nice deal. It's my first Danelectro and probably not my last.

This new model {July 2009} from Danelectro was in part inspired by Pete Townshend's original 1967 Coral Hornet. I'm very impressed! The body contours are vintage correct. Fit and finish is superb. Neck to body fit is SUPER tight. Neck is a comfortable "D"-shaped with 21 vintage frets, nut width is 1.750???, fretboard radius is 14???, scale length is 24.75". Electronics include USA Alpha control pots, "hotter" Lipstick pickups (hum-canceling when both on), 2 volume and 2 tone controls with 3 way toggle. Adjustable truss rod works nicely. Fretwork is top notch. Plays excellent everywhere on the neck. Unplugged it rings out LOUD strung with 10-46 set. Plugged in it sounds GREAT. Full, loud, useful musical tones. The tremelo works well {when used within its obvious design limitations} aided by the perfectly straight string alignment from bridge to tuners, well seated and cut nut, and tight, smooth tuners. And yes, the bridge with rosewood saddle intonates just fine. Excellent looking matte finish {this one's Cobalt Blue} with brushed nickel hardware. This example came in at a very comfortable 5 lbs. 14 oz.. They even nailed the unique swirly "Reflective Stylized" pickguard of the originals. I want to add this particular guitar is a pre-production model, not a production run instrument. The updates are the production run will have shielded electronics and a heavier bridge plate. It is NOT a "Dead On" replica of a 1967 Hornet. The headstock is from the Sears/Dano' era, the 2nd raised pickguard found on the originals is M.I.A. as are the pickup trim rings. Tuners should have metal buttons. Control layout is also different from the original. Regardless, IMHO, it's an excellent, useable instrument at a great price. Manufactured in China. If you love cool guitars, great tones, & excellent playability, you really need to check one out! First off, I have to say that the first reviewer of this guitar either wanted to do a hatchet job, or managed to pick up one that was a factory reject. Regardless, here goes.

I have a Butterscotch Dead-On `67. It features a nice little neck, longer than my other two new Danos, a `63 and the Pro. The body has a satin finish, metal control plate and a faux silky-satin-under-plastic pickguard. The body is the same mustang-y curved body as the original Corals.

The pickups are two of the new Dano lipsticks...looks like it MIGHT be a little bigger than the other new models, but not by much. The whammy looks like it's the same design as the originals as well, with one massive spring under the bridge...which, since this is a dead-on, is wooden. Plastic faux pearl tuners. Individual tone and volume controls for each pickup, and a three-way selector switch.

Not sure what the first review THOUGHT the Corals looked like before, but he's completely wrong...these look almost exactly the same as the originals. Take a look at Pete Townsend's `67 if you don't believe me: http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/equipment/guitar/equip-coral.html

The only difference seems to be the curved "booty" shape of the butt of the guitar, which other Corals DID feature. Maybe even some `67's.

Not sure why the first reviewer was worried about intonation past the 12th fret...he loves his Dano pro, which barely has access past the 12th fret. I know it's a scary proposition to have the wooden bar, but all the vintage Danos featured this, and they still sounded great.

I'm giving this a "10" for a great built, extremely affordable guitar.

Sound : 8
My band describes itself as psycho-a-go-go; we combine garage, surf, punk and a little bit of rockabilly, so this guitar fits in perfectly. Again, not sure how the first reviewer's guitar was treated before he played it, but my pickups and tone through this are great. Just like the Pro, and especially the `63, the rear pickup is super bright and twangy, which is great for surfy leads and reverbed out smashin' and bashin' a la' Dexter Romeber. The middle setting combines both pickups to give the guitar much more of a growly tone, while still keeping the highs. Also, this setting makes the guitar much louder (again, not sure how it became quieter for the first reviewer). As far as the neck pickup alone I can't really say...I honestly rarely use it for our type of music.

I've used it through my Swart AST head and cab, my Tone King Meteor II, a Dr. Z MAZ 18 NR, and a mid 60s Ampeg. Sounds really great through all of them. I have a pretty large pedal board (I run an a/b/y setup), but I've mainly used a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Depending on the song I'll use a Fuzz Factory or Deja Vibe or Dunlop wah.

I love the sound of this one...very similar to my `63.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
Here's my one beef with the guitar...the finish was not even close to what was pictured when I pre-ordered. Much MUCH more orange than the pics, which was a deep yellow. Other than that, the finish is great, no visible flaws. I will agree with the first reviewer that this one is a slippery one to keep on your lap, but you just have to sit at the correct angle. Not planning on sitting down much with this one anyway...definitely the looks for a road guitar. Very eye-catching, very vintage. I'm giving this one a 5, only because of the mis-matching colors.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar seems durable and solid as can be. I've only had it a few days, but I've purposely played the hell out of it. The hardware seems solid...feels like aluminum, maybe. The actual bar on the whammy seemed like it might be a weak spot, but I really worked it good and it didn't bend, etc. I'd absolutely use it without a backup, if I did that sort of thing (I'm a string-breaker, so I always have a stand-by.

Customer Support : 8
Again, I'm not sure why the first reviewer bashed the company with a review of "4" for this, since he apparently was more angered with previous products and lack of cases...sigh.

All I know is, when I recieved my guitar and the color was not what I expected, my dealer contacted Dano, where they were very nice and apologetic.

Warranty is for one year.

Overall Rating : 8
This is great guitar for the price, and much better than other, more expensive repros I've seen. I own a Dano Pro, Dano `63, Hallmark Swept-wings, Stradettes and 60 Customs. I have a Ron Asheton signature, a Phantom Teardrop, and an Eastwood May Queen. This one fits in nicely with my collection, and in the sound of my band. If it were stolen or lost, I wouldn't hesitate picking up another one.

Again, not sure if the first reviewer just had a dud or what, but I'm glad I judged the guitar for myself (I read his review before I received it). It looks like he owns a bunch of Fenders, and you're definitely not going to get the same tone :)

I really wanted to like this one. I am glad I checked one out instead of just ordering it online. I sat down and played it for half hour but did not buy.

This is a 2009 made in China solidbody. I have heard that the body is basswood as opposed to the masonite/edgetape Danos. It has a three way switch. Both positions sound shrill. The middle, both PU position gets quiet, which is just wrong for a Dano. You should get more volume in that position. Tone knobs have no real effect except go shrill to muddy.

Pickups are larger than previous lipsticks, in a dull silver finish. There is a brushed aluminum control plate that runs into an odd rippled plastic pickguard. Dull faux vintage tuners with chintzy plastic buttons. The control plate was quite scratched for only being out on the floor a few days. There is a reason they don't put brushed metal finish on guitars: looks bad.

Especially with the dull body neck finish. Feels like fiberglass. Can't tell if the neck is made of wood. Frets and rosewood on top are fine tho. Nice edge finish on frets.

Worst news is the whammy bar (I know, vibrato.) Works...OK...but strings just lay on a wooden bar. NO intonation possible. Bad for those who play past fret 12. The ball end of the strings just sit on top of the metal, the strings do not thread thru anything. It is easy to imagine strings flying off after a few windmill power chords. Due to no solid grounding of the strings, they kind of groan and make bad slaps and off tones as you go up and down the fretboard.

Very light and airy feeling. The guitar just kind of slid off my body as I was sitting there. I am not trying to be funny. It just kept trying to slide down to the ground.

Overall this was a cool looking guitar in its 60's incarnation. This one just looks like an odd bizarro Strat copy.

Sound : 2
Shrill. No sweet spots. Can do clangy twangy leads. Both PUs sound the same. Due to odd string grounding, sounds...just off.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
Just dull finish. Not exciting looking in person. Action OK, but tones and intonation just wrong with that bridge/vibrato. Great aluminum nut. Nice frets and fretboard.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I would not play this in my backyard. I would not play it on a stage. I would not play it with green eggs and ham.

Customer Support : 4
I have an 07 Dano Pro "Flintstone" guitar which I dearly love. I have two metal pedals, a stereo chorus and Daddyo distortion. From what I know of the company they are quite odd, they just put out a different "limited edition" guitar from China every year. Some are great, like the Hodad and the Pro. Some are just...wrong. They do not sell cases for their guitars, despite having all kinds of other crapola accessories available. I don't know that they would ever actually repair one of their guitars or accessories, or acknowledge your existence.

Overall Rating : 2
I have been playing many years but never got real good at it. I have 52 Reissue Tele, 57 Reissue Strat, SG Special, Vox Tornado, 51 Precision Reissue, Fretless J Bass, 2 Candelas classicals. 59 Dano Pro, love em all, cheap to expensive.

But... the Dead On Dano is dead on arrival. No wonder all the kool kids are building cigar box guitars, if they want you to pay $350 for this dreck.
