I have it tuned A to A. I've used this in lieu of a bass a couple times at church. Played through my Ampeg Rig (SVT-3PRO amp through a SVT-410HLF cabinet) I get a very clean sound. Playing mostly single notes, I usually keep the pickup selector switch in the center position. This setting can get a little muddy playing chords - especially down towards the nut but switching to either of the single coil pick ups individually cleans it up. But I'm playing the bass part and don't do much chording. We do a lot of up beat southern gospel/black gospel type tunes so while I can use the baritone, my preference is my G&L 2500 (more thump).

At home I play through a Princeton and a modified Musicmaster Bass amp (Torres mod). In this setting I play it like a guitar and it's plenty twangy. You just have to do a couple Duane Eddy licks...this guitar was made to play "California Sun." Playing on either of the pickups the sound is clean enough for goofing off with a few friends playing and singing...you can strum chords at the nut or play up the neck - no problem.

The guitar must be well shielded because it doesn't make much noise at all. You can get some tonal differences with the different pickups and the tone controls, but it's got a distinctive sound that it doesn't really lose. Some folks want one guitar to cover everything - I just buy more guitars...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar seems to be pretty well made. I looked it over and didn't find any finish blemishes or any construction flaws. The set up was good out of the box. Of course the guys at DanGuitars are Danelectro freaks so they probably care a little more than others.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems to be very solid. I'll pick up a case should I carry it very often but over all it's not something that you have to baby.

Customer Support : 10
The guys are DanGuitars responded promptly with more order. I haven't had any issues but they have a good track record.

Overall Rating : 9
This is a good value for what I would call a specialty guitar. I've been playing on and off for 30+ years and have more toys than I need but so what, GAS is better than other addictions.

I might order the "ADJUSTABLE / INTONATING CHROME GUITAR BRIDGE" ($45) to replace the Rosewood bridge just to get the set up more exact. But it's pretty close as is.
