This guitar is playable, it is fun. I use it for percussion purposes only, whether it be bluegrass, folk, or dixieland, I think this guitjo is very representitive of a percussive instrument.
Sound

Nice sound! Very mellow, yet punchy. I like the way it feels with the strings higher because it makes a percussive sound. I don't use it so much for lead.

High action, the strings are not near the fretboard. The guitjo looks nice with the back on or off...nice color, very versitile.

Putting strings on can take all afternoon. I will start using low gauge guitar stings will balls or bullets on my next string change. I hate the little hooks and it takes sometime to tune as well.

Suggestion.....For the low E dullness problem and for troubles staying in tune, try this....use regular ball-end or bullet-end electric guitar 10's,11's or 12's.LEAVE the ball-end on.Don't use those stupid little hooks on the tail-piece.

New Korean made six string banjo. Natural finish, resonator, grover tuners.
Sound
:

The 6th string was so muffled that this istrument is essentially unusable for any purpose other than maybe plunking around at home. Even then, the muffled sound and tone distortion when fretting at any fret is so distracting that its irritating. I've been playing guitar and banjo for over 30 years, and this is the worst instrument I've ever purchased

This instrument was purchased online, and didn't seem to have been set up at all (even though the inspection card indicated otherwise). Action was awful.

As stated previously, this instrument was essentially unusable for live play, and extremely irritating and distracting to play any other time due to the muffled sound and tone distortion of the 6th string.

This item was purchased online, and the dealer's customer support in rapid shipping and issuing a return authorization were top notch. When I received the item and determined that it was unusable, I called and received a prompt return authorization, no questions asked, though I did take the hit of having to pay for return shipping. I contacted Dean Customer Service via email and telephone, and received no response. The numerical rating listed below is directed specifically at Dean, not the dealer.

I have been playing for over 30 years. I own two Martin guitars, a Yamaha guitar, A Seagull Grand guitar, and an Alvarez Denver Belle bajno purchased new in 1976. I've seen and played student models of various instruments over the years that were better quality and had better playability than this item. I would not purchase one again.

Korean made 6 string banjo. Guitar neck with truss rod. Mahogany neck and resonator. Transparent finish. Grover tuners. Kind of fat frets.

Low E a bit dull, but otherwise bright and loud. I've been a player for the last 35 of my 50 years and like the sound. I find myself using my right hand to dampen the sound and it works well.

Set-up was great. No pickup. Remo skin and ebony/hard maple bridge do what their supposed to do. Some finish irregularities on the back of the neck and the sound ring has some rough spots, but if I wanted perfect, I would have bought a Deering.

I will be using this live in the near future, it seems worthy. The tuners are smooth and seem to hold well. Fit and finish are fine.

For the money, a fun addition to my batch of toys. I have a Gibson CL-45, a Liberty Copperhead resonator, a '61 Gretsch Clipper, a mid-70's Tele and a P-bass for home recording. I like this instrument quite a bit, it's fun to play and stays in tune. It's fun to finger pick and loud. I never have played a 6 string banjo before and sort of took a risk on this one. I'm not disappointed. If it were lost or stolen, I'd probably buy another, unless I had an unexpected windfall..the I'd buy a Deering. I think it's a good instrument for the money.

Korean made. guitar neck with truss rod, 6 grover tuners, banjo body.

sounds like a banjo, finger positions like a guitar. I've been a guitar picker for 30+ years and this tool is fun for songs that would sound better on a banjo. The low E does not project as well as the higher voiced strings but what the hell!?

Near perfect set-up. Very good action. The grovers hold and tune well. Good looking fret-work with no buzzes. No pickups. Floating bridge. Sturdy, nicely polished hardware. Good looking wood on the tone pot body. Hard to find any real bad finish flaws although if you look close there are a few factory scratches.

Heres where it gets UGLY. I can not keep it in tune with its self. Pull one string sharp the rest go flat and vice-versa. Put the slightest pressure on the neck either way and again you get all 6 strings sharp or flat. Extremly weak neck and neck joint! If you are ear sensative in regards to intonation this instrument will frustrate the hell out of you trying to tune it! Otherwise it seems solid and for the money a good try on their part. I could not use it live. Won't come close to tuning up and yes I do have the bridge set properly.

Great customer support. First BW-6 ordered came in looking used. The DEAN factory Rep. personaly drove to my dealer (Chicago to Omaha) with another BW-6 to check out the difference in the two instruments. Second one was new! (Both had the same tuning problem however; design flaw imho) No returns on special orders.

Playing 30+ yrs. I new there were no returns - I just gambled I would enjoy it for the low price tag. I don't enjoy it. I need it to stay in reasonable tune and it will not. If I could afford one I would look at the Deering 6 string at 3 times the money.
